Was it based on the Gypsy Rose Lee-June Havoc connection. Baby June as a child seemed so much like like Baby Jane (obnoxious child vaudeville singing stars with blonde ringlets), but both sisters in real life aged glamorously--nothing like Baby Jane Hudson and Blanche Hudson.
What was the inspiration for "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane"?

You'll have to ask Henry Farrell who wrote the novel on which the movie is based. That may be problematic as he died in 2006.

I see then it's impossible anyone has ever guessed who it might be or that he ever said anything about it during his lifetime, r2.

Sunset Boulevard's basic premise is similar to Baby Jane, and like Norma Desmond, Baby, Jane Hudson lives in the past and dreams of a comeback. Oops, I mean return

R3 I don't know if Farrell was ever asked about who/what might have inspired his novel. Would have been interesting to hear what he had to say.
