What to Do if Someone Confronts You for Still Wearing a Mask

Tell them they should consider doing the same and proceed to point out everything that's wrong with their face!

by Anonymousreply 1May 6, 2022 5:03 PM

I like wearing a mask. What's it to them if I wear it?

by Anonymousreply 2May 6, 2022 5:04 PM

"Because my functional IQ is higher than ambient room temperature."

They are confused long enough by the word "ambient" to allow you to escape their mouth-breathing presence.

by Anonymousreply 3May 6, 2022 5:07 PM

Tell them you have warrants.

by Anonymousreply 4May 6, 2022 5:08 PM

Try "I'm not gonna let any government tell me what to do!"

by Anonymousreply 5May 6, 2022 5:08 PM

I've stopped wearing mine for the most part, but I couldn't care less if others do. I do think they look slightly silly when they're the only ones wearing a mask and no one else is, but it's not my business. I will continue to wear it in certain situations and places, like inside Ubers, planes, and other public transportation. I think I'll also wear it during cold and flu season.

by Anonymousreply 6May 6, 2022 5:11 PM

Some stranger is going to come up to me and question my wearing a mask? How nosy are people? Jeeze.

by Anonymousreply 7May 6, 2022 5:11 PM
“I raised my palm, and announced, ‘Unsubscribe,’” Gussoff Sumption said.

Obviously, spending way too much time on DL.

by Anonymousreply 8May 6, 2022 5:14 PM

I tell them I have AIDS.

by Anonymousreply 9May 6, 2022 5:14 PM

Thankfully, this is most likely to happen in the "stand your ground" states. So, exercise that right.

by Anonymousreply 10May 6, 2022 5:14 PM

I slap them quite viciously.

by Anonymousreply 11May 6, 2022 5:16 PM

"Mind your own fucking business."

by Anonymousreply 12May 6, 2022 5:22 PM

“I have tuberculosis…hack hack”

by Anonymousreply 13May 6, 2022 5:25 PM

MYOB GTF out of way.

by Anonymousreply 14May 6, 2022 5:29 PM

This required an article? People sure are pussies.

by Anonymousreply 15May 6, 2022 5:36 PM

Most people near me (north of NYC) still wear them in stores and doctor's offices. I'm going to a community theater production and they are required.

I was on vacation in a southern state a few weeks ago and once I got off the plane I swear I was the only one in the state who wore a mask. I forgot my debit card on the trip so went into the local branch of my bank wearing a black mask, baseball hat and sunglasses just to fuck with them a bit while getting a new card..

by Anonymousreply 16May 6, 2022 5:37 PM

Just tell them you just tested positive for covid...But thanks for being cool with me not wearing a mask....Take your mask off then proceed to cough

Don't engage. If they persist or become confrontational, make up a disease as say you need the added protection.

by Anonymousreply 19May 6, 2022 6:39 PM

I’ll tell them to fuck off or I’ll sneeze on them with the mask up.

by Anonymousreply 20May 6, 2022 6:54 PM

You shouldn’t need to lie, R19.

by Anonymousreply 21May 6, 2022 8:03 PM

News reports out today (Friday) in Chicago about rising infection rates.

"You’re not required to mask up indoors, but you really should. That’s the latest message from public school and health officials in Chicago, where the COVID-19 risk level has moved from “low” to “medium” on the color-coded transmission rating system set by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. As a result, the city Department of Public Health said Friday it “is strongly recommending masking,” including in Chicago Public Schools and on public transit."
What to Do if Someone Confronts You for Still Wearing a Mask

Shop at a different supermarket.

by Anonymousreply 23May 6, 2022 8:29 PM

Happened to me in a Jersey City liqour store last week. Drunk guy said "you know you don't need that anymore." I just said - "Yeah, I know" and kept it moving... Not wasting my time on idiots.

by Anonymousreply 24May 6, 2022 8:52 PM

1. Take it off.

2. Cough.

3. Say, "My doctor said I have to because I have ebola."

by Anonymousreply 25May 6, 2022 9:12 PM

It's only happened to me once, when some hipster drove up to me in a parking lot and yelled out his car window, "You don't need that mask!" I replied, "I don't need your permission."

The store I was about to enter still requires masking, because COVID cases are still on the rise here, so he was stupidly misinformed as well as self-righteous. It isn't anyone's business what I decide to wear, anyway. Does he also get confrontational about mismatched socks?

by Anonymousreply 26May 6, 2022 9:28 PM

R9 Perfect. I love you!

by Anonymousreply 27May 6, 2022 9:31 PM

R5 Ha! Good one!

by Anonymousreply 28May 6, 2022 9:35 PM

I think in this instance, the words "FUCK OFF" work well.

by Anonymousreply 29May 6, 2022 9:39 PM

I love the mullet on the cartoon at OP.

by Anonymousreply 30May 6, 2022 9:50 PM

I have told people that I spit when I talk and the mask is good for that. And they go away. What, are they going to say they like to be sprayed on?

by Anonymousreply 31May 6, 2022 9:54 PM

I can think of a couple of variations on that r31.

by Anonymousreply 32May 6, 2022 9:55 PM

"Forever in debt to your priceless advice."

by Anonymousreply 33May 6, 2022 10:08 PM

My goal would be to make the other person feel guilty and ashamed for commenting.

"I am immune compromised"

"I am in a vulnerable demographic"

"I might have Covid"

by Anonymousreply 34May 6, 2022 10:16 PM

Walk away! UR not being held hostage

by Anonymousreply 35May 6, 2022 10:17 PM

I have been in many places when I’m one of of the few wearing masks, even in Florida. No one has ever challenged me

by Anonymousreply 36May 6, 2022 10:19 PM

"You need to get out of my face!"

by Anonymousreply 37May 6, 2022 10:24 PM
I have been in many places when I’m one of of the few wearing masks, even in Florida. No one has ever challenged me

Not yet. But they’re certainly giving you dirty looks, R36.

by Anonymousreply 38May 6, 2022 10:36 PM

I’d just beat the shit out of them

by Anonymousreply 39May 6, 2022 10:47 PM

I could only imagine how bad it is for teachers now.

by Anonymousreply 41May 6, 2022 10:59 PM
Not yet. But they’re certainly giving you dirty looks, [R36].

No, no one’s given me dirty looks either actually

by Anonymousreply 42May 6, 2022 11:35 PM

The problem is they don’t actually confront you to you face. They yell something at you as they run or drive by

by Anonymousreply 43May 6, 2022 11:36 PM

I wear earbuds and if this happens I will use my go to "I AM ON THE PHONE!!!", pantomime.

by Anonymousreply 44May 6, 2022 11:38 PM

Tell them you’re dying of cancer.

by Anonymousreply 45May 6, 2022 11:43 PM

Thanks for the laugh, r41! I needed that!

by Anonymousreply 46May 7, 2022 12:14 AM

I actually was waiting for it to happen and it did yesterday in a TN Kroger. I was walking in as some maga-looking older man says, "Why you still wearing that? You don't have to."

I just growled loudly as I walked by, "Mind your own business, old lady." Lol He looked shocked! Must say, it felt good and it cracked me up all day.

by Anonymousreply 47May 7, 2022 12:37 AM

Hey, r41, you don't need to wear that mask anymore!

by Anonymousreply 48May 7, 2022 12:42 AM

First off, both of the people in OP's drawing are cunts. The woman yelling is a cunt and so is the woman wearing a mask because it has one of those exhalation valves. People who wear those are the worst assholes going.

by Anonymousreply 49May 7, 2022 12:45 AM

I’d rather smell my breath than your BO!

by Anonymousreply 50May 7, 2022 12:47 AM

When asked, I remove and smile, get close and get all friendly. “Oh, yes, I know, but even after feeling so much better for the last 6 months, I still haven’t cleared the virus from my body for some reason and keep testing COVID positive. In fact, yesterday’s Covid test was still positive”.

“Doctors at CedarsSinai think I might be a super carrier”.

They get that lunch is coming up look. Why is it anyone’s business but mine?

by Anonymousreply 51May 7, 2022 12:48 AM

If anyone speaks to me or tries to get my attention in public, they are ignored. I have no obligation to engage crazies for any reason, so don’t need to have a prepared speech.

by Anonymousreply 52May 7, 2022 1:21 AM

It's funny, but when I am out in public with my nonagenarian mom, and she starts talking to some asshole, I tell her,

What did you tell me about talking to strangers in public?

Then I look at the offender and state, "STRANGER DANGER". And we leave.

by Anonymousreply 53May 7, 2022 1:24 AM

"You have bad breath, that's why."

by Anonymousreply 54May 7, 2022 2:26 AM

Pull it down and say "because I have Covid" and then sneeze

by Anonymousreply 55May 7, 2022 2:29 AM
If anyone speaks to me or tries to get my attention in public, they are ignored.

Can I have your stuff, R52? I see a speeding car running a red light in your future.

by Anonymousreply 56May 7, 2022 2:49 AM

2 friends of mine were diagnosed with Covid in the past 3 days, people who don't know each other. One of them had already had it, in Spain early last Fall. Both are fully vaccinated (4 shots). It's still all around, people have just decided to pretend that it's "over". I figure if I've spent 2+ years doing my damnedest not to catch it, this far, I can certainly still wear a mask in the fucking grocery store. Simple.

by Anonymousreply 57May 7, 2022 11:49 AM

Some guy "jokingly" commented on my mask in the check out line at the Grocery store a few weeks ago. I told him I had COVID but I needed some stuff so I had to go to the store, but I didn't feel that sick. I said, " I still have a fever, but it's not as high today..." and his face got red and he stopped smiling and talking to me. He pretended to be on his phone. I faked coughed for him, and he seemed to move back a little. LOL!

by Anonymousreply 58May 7, 2022 12:10 PM

My 68 year old brother just got diagnosed. Besides feeling "punky" and coughing, he says he's OK. Not sure how he's been concerning masking lately, but he had been pretty careful.

I went to a local indoor garden center last week, and I was the only person wearing a mask. Nobody bothered me about it, though. If they did, I think I'd just shrug and say "this is my choice", and hopefully leave it at that.

Some friends and I were asked about it earlier in the pandemic when we were walking outside. This was before vaccines were available. We passed up a lady on the trails and she asked why we were wearing masks when we were outside. My friend replied that we don't live in the same house and we're protecting her 87 year old mother from exposure. Lady seemed to agree with that.

by Anonymousreply 59May 7, 2022 12:19 PM

This. Never. Happens.

by Anonymousreply 60May 7, 2022 12:26 PM

"Fuck off Nazi!" works for me.

by Anonymousreply 61May 7, 2022 12:36 PM

Illustration suggests, woman, black - good; man, white - bad.

by Anonymousreply 62May 7, 2022 12:36 PM

This isn’t a real thing anymore.

The bitcher now is a Karen in a mask loudly complaining to no one specifically but everyone generally that it’s awful that people are walking around massless and that none of us are safe until the virus is completely gone.

by Anonymousreply 63May 7, 2022 12:41 PM

*maskless

by Anonymousreply 64May 7, 2022 1:04 PM

I would probably just walk away, but if I said anything, it would be....Your choice is to not to wear a mask...my choice is to wear one. I'll probably get beaten up anyway...lol.

by Anonymousreply 65May 7, 2022 1:14 PM

That story is from Huffpo which makes it suspect. Are mask wearers being "confronted"? Are these people from Dynasty? For some reason I think if someone asks a mask wearer why they're masking, they can handle themselves without falling apart. A simple 'mind your own damned business', a hiss, a Susan Sullivan pivot and then a sashay away is all you need to do.

by Anonymousreply 66May 7, 2022 1:18 PM

My plan is to tell them I just tested positive for COVID and I’m trying not to spread it. I expected that I would have had to use that multiple time by now, but no one’s said anything to me about it so far.

by Anonymousreply 67May 7, 2022 1:22 PM
Are mask wearers being "confronted"?

Yes, definitely, from personal experience.

by Anonymousreply 68May 7, 2022 1:23 PM

I’d tell them to stop harassing me.

by Anonymousreply 69May 7, 2022 1:24 PM

I’ve learned that if you ignore confrontational idiots they look even more idiotic. Ignore. Walk away. I don’t need to justify my actions to anyone.

by Anonymousreply 70May 7, 2022 1:25 PM

No one has ever confronted me for wearing a mask...yet. . Even now, where most people are not wearing one where I live.

by Anonymousreply 71May 7, 2022 1:26 PM
Are mask wearers being "confronted"?
Yes, definitely, from personal experience.

I don’t know why some people want to pretend that there’s no hostility out here toward mask wearers.

by Anonymousreply 72May 7, 2022 1:31 PM

"It's to protect [italic]you[/italic]--I have the bubonic plague, you see..."

by Anonymousreply 73May 7, 2022 1:36 PM

I hadn’t been on an NYC subway in months but last week had to take the F train five days in a row. I would say 90% of riders were wearing masks. I was pleased but kind of shocked. The majority of the maskless were white. Just an observation (I’m white btw).

by Anonymousreply 74May 7, 2022 1:51 PM

Oh Lawdy, more hand-wringing from the perpetually neurotic, victim-centric Far Left. Nobody gives a shit if you're wearing a mask. The crazies are the ones who want to murder you for NOT.

by Anonymousreply 75May 7, 2022 2:00 PM
I don’t know why some people want to pretend that there’s no hostility out here toward mask wearers.

I think if that was really a big thing, we would have seen it reported in all the legitimate news sources. They would eat up stories about mask wearers being confronted and/or attacked. I think what is being read as hostility is actually hypersensitivity. Of course, there are some cases of assholes being assholes, but most people mind their business.

by Anonymousreply 76May 7, 2022 2:00 PM

If people like the OP are being confronted on the street, it has NOTHING to do with their wearing a mask. It's all about them being who they are. I'm sure your judgmental, supercilious attitude can be spotted from outer space.

by Anonymousreply 77May 7, 2022 2:06 PM

r57, which is why I continue to social distance.

It's like the MAGA mask haters made everyone forget about all the protocols.

by Anonymousreply 78May 7, 2022 2:43 PM

R57 - I hope you're using one of these because 99% of the commercial masks are junk. They won't protect you. At best, they might capture the molecules you emit when spitting, sneezing or coughing but one would hope you would have covered your mouth first anyway.

by Anonymousreply 79May 7, 2022 2:49 PM

R 78 - What's a MAGA mask, and who hates them?

by Anonymousreply 80May 7, 2022 2:50 PM

Tisk. A comma could go after haters, but would not alleviate your stupidity.

It's like the MAGA mask-haters made everyone forget about all the protocols.

Cunts are not my friends.

by Anonymousreply 81May 7, 2022 2:55 PM

I'd ask, "Do I know you? Then again, louder, "DO I KNOW YOU????" Then I'd get out my pepper spray and spray them and start screaming.

by Anonymousreply 82May 7, 2022 3:22 PM
Tisk. A comma could go after haters, but would not alleviate your stupidity. It's like the MAGA mask-haters made everyone forget about all the protocols. Cunts are not my friends.

Oh honey, no. You shouldn't be calling anyone stupid when you (a) confuse a comma with a hyphen; and (b) "correct" your grammar by making yet another mistake. Oh dear indeed.

by Anonymousreply 83May 7, 2022 4:26 PM

I just say, "I bite. Through the bone."

And hold my ground.

They withdraw.

by Anonymousreply 84May 7, 2022 4:28 PM

I am a grown up and don't need a huffpost blogicle to help me know what to do.

by Anonymousreply 85May 7, 2022 4:34 PM

Notice how the illustration is a white woman threatening a black woman. The clear agenda is so disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 86May 7, 2022 5:17 PM

I usually kick'em in their cuntbone.

by Anonymousreply 87May 7, 2022 5:17 PM

I might jokingly say something to someone who wears one while driving.....alone. Because, WTF?

by Anonymousreply 88May 7, 2022 5:20 PM

This is not a problem. I, especially, love the white person challenging a POC. LOL Such drivel from HuffPo and you're all eating it up like good little lemmings.

by Anonymousreply 89May 7, 2022 5:27 PM

I wear one in the office and people kept saying, “you’re WEARING a MASK???????” so often that I made a sign that says, “YES, for your safety as well as my own, I am wearing a mask.” That was the end of that. And I’m in NYC where I honestly thought people had better sense.

by Anonymousreply 90May 7, 2022 6:01 PM

“This is not a problem.” How about when the Florida Governor DeathSantis mocked schoolchildren to their faces right in front of news cameras for wearing masks, R89?

R83, not a grammar Nazi, still a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 92May 7, 2022 10:04 PM

I still wear one indoors when shopping in SF. Too many travelers from outside running around the city, and they don't wear masks at all from what I have seen.

by Anonymousreply 93May 7, 2022 10:19 PM

R93 Got some looks but no confrontation yet. Probably because SF still has a visible minority wearing masks even outdoors.

by Anonymousreply 94May 7, 2022 10:23 PM

It’s only a matter of time before someone is murdered for still wearing a mask.

by Anonymousreply 95May 8, 2022 12:09 AM

Let's take it down a notch Gurleena at R95.

by Anonymousreply 96May 8, 2022 12:12 AM

I’ve considered saying I have covid but the problem is (a) you risk them getting angry you’re not quarantined or (b) they clearly don’t give a fuck about covid so they would say “so what? we’ve all had it. Masks don’t protect against it anyway.”

If your aim is to shock and shame them into silence, the dying of cancer answer is the way to go.

(But it feels too horrifying to lie about that)

by Anonymousreply 97May 8, 2022 2:18 AM
Oh dear indeed.

Oh, dear!

by Anonymousreply 98May 8, 2022 5:57 AM

R88, sometimes it's easier to leave the mask on when going from one mask requiring place to another, or people are so used to wearing their masks that they've forgotten they're even wearing one.

by Anonymousreply 99May 8, 2022 6:02 AM

R88 = mask harasser
