I'll start, the Year 2000.
Macy Gray was like the Leslie Jones of music then. Super overrated and being promoted only to tick diversity points.

r1, Macy Gray nor Leslie Jones are overrated. I suspect you are one those "basic" people who have qualms with nontraditionally attractive people who the media tries to make a thing. You are probably right wing. But I don't want to introduce politics in this thread. List a song or just fuck off.

I Try is a great song, R1. Don’t be a fucking idiot.

The "I Try" parody was better! I remember Macy Gray was so pissed!

'I Try' is possibly one of the greatest songs of this millennium and I think r1 is one of those people who think the very existence of black people is purposed to assault his sensibilities.
Another Macy Gray contribution from that great album. My favourite: The equally heartbreakingly beautiful 'Still'

This is my favorite song from her and it reminds me of my old high school days when I listened to the radio.

Another one of my faves, I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it.

Damn OP, you’re sending me down memory lane another fave from 2000
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 6, 2022 7:58 AM |
My original intent for this thread was to focus on the year 2000 and then build successive threads year by year.

I think this thread will show that '90s style artistry overlapped with the 2000s for a while, hence the still great music. Green Day's epic album 'American Idiot' is the perfect example.

Dido. This one was released in 1999, but it didn't start to hit till late 2000-early 2001.

This was an absolute gem, remember it so well. “It Feels So Good” by Sonique.

"Hate Me" by Blue October is a masterpiece. And those vocals..... "Still" (Macy Gray) was also a beautiful song. A devastating tale that, unfortunately, I can relate to.

So sorry, r31. I genuinely mean it.
I don’t want to sound like an old foggy but it seems the music industry’s ability to explore dark complex themes like that has diminished.

R25, Baby one more came out in 1998. How old are you? You could have posted this.

Britney Spears should not be on this thread.

The new millennium started in 2001… These choices are so bland and middlebrow. Bon Jovi? U2? Britney Spears?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | May 6, 2022 4:24 PM |
^ You bet 🙂
by Anonymous | reply 45 | May 6, 2022 4:28 PM |
@r43, So, where's your song, or are you just one of those music snobs?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | May 6, 2022 4:31 PM |
R43. Better? This is one of my favorite songs of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | May 6, 2022 6:28 PM |
My favourite Kanye West track. You can pick out Elton John’s voice out of all the others.

I was obsessed with this little depressing tune.

The album might have actually come out in the 90s but main Beyonce was brilliant here. Mainstream r&b at its finest.

I came across Done by Frazey Ford as the song of the day on the Rex Parker Does The New York Times Crossword blog. I listen to it every few months.
