MSNBC - Part 37

I'm intrigued my Nicolle's necklace. Is there a term for the shape of those medallions?
She routinely wore the single turquoise one. I'm assuming it was a gift. Now it's the multiple white ones.
If she comes with a green one, I'm thinking she might be confused with a weed dispensary rep.

I want to see Ari’s scantily clad lithe Mediterranean body. I would savagely tear his clothes off like a shrieking Beatles fan if I had seen him broadcasting on the national mall the last couple of days, which would be embarrassing as I am a 57 year old 🐻.

Ari is hot.

[quote] Ari’s scantily clad lithe Mediterranean body
He's from the Pacific Northwest.
Saw him outside once without his suit jacket, not exactly lithe, but certainly doable. Forearms hairier than you might expect.

Leigh Ann Caldwell's hair always bothers me.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | May 6, 2022 12:35 AM |
R5 I was convinced it was a wig for awhile, then she started growing out her roots.
She struck me as a passable but not great reporter. Thing is her MSNBC colleagues all just seem to really love her. Maybe she's fun off-air.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | May 6, 2022 7:12 AM |
Leigh Ann Caldwell doesn't work for NBC/MSNBC any longer she is now with WaPo.

Last night I counted at least 56 "like"s and 45 "right?"s on Chris Hayes show. He should get electroshock every time he does it.

Is Chuck Todd losing his 1:00 slot because he’s taking over for Rachel Maddow?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | May 6, 2022 5:14 PM |
R10 God forbid. Her production team still runs the show, including the Prime nights, hopefully they'd refuse to work for Todd,
by Anonymous | reply 11 | May 7, 2022 2:21 AM |
Maybe Chuck Todd will take his talents to Fox News & succeed Chris Wallace.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | May 7, 2022 3:11 AM |
They are keeping Todd on, at least for now, at the flagship MTP program. His daily shift to streaming isn't even a move to the premium service. You would think he could take a really big hint.
I missed the Correspondents Dinner, apparently Trevor Noah made a crack about Todd's inability to ask follow-up questions. And got booed.

I've never watch the Katie Phang show on MSNBC before until this morning, she had The Lincoln Project's Rick Wilson as a guest in a talk show type set with a couch and a chair which Katie sat in, where she described herself as a former registered Republican.

No need to doubt. Not only is he pro-filibuster, but Manchin, like Bob Casey, is "pro-life."

At the correspondents dinner Trevor Noah remarked what a privilege it was being in the same room with the most powerful man in the country... Joe Manchin. Biden genuinely seemed to think it was funny.

Well Symone's mother heard from
The ex-Biden administration official who was most recently a top spokesperson for Vice President Kamala Harris tanked in her debut this past weekend on MSNBC, according to newly released Nielsen ratings.
Sanders drew just 361,000 total viewers for her 4 p.m. show, titled “Symone,” on Saturday. She also managed to attract just 29,000 viewers in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demographic.
The program’s viewership fell well short of Fox News Channel’s “Fox News Live,” which drew 842,000 total viewers, including 163,000 in the 25-54 demographic.

He did quite a bit of editorializing while filling in for Chris tonight. It sounded like a personal peeve with Israeli policies and practices. Something you might expect from a guest, rather than a guest host.
Even Mehdi Hasan seems to know better the line he needs to hew to.

Joe Scarborough Rips Senate Democrats, Accuses Them of ‘𝑽𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒆 𝑺𝒊𝒈𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈’ With Symbolic Abortion Rights Vote
“The story of the democratic congress, thus far, is wildly overshooting the mark,” Scarborough noted. “And getting nothing from it.”
Mika Brzezinski quickly chimed in to correctly note, “well, they want to know where people stand.”
“You know, the time for virtue-signaling is over,” Scarborough added. “They don’t have many legislative days left.”
The Morning Joe host proceeded to hammer Democratic Congressional leadership for ostensibly letting perfect be the enemy of the good and as a result, consistently coming out on the losing end, if even just on symbolic votes.
In other words, the time for symbolism has long passed for Schumer says Scarborough, as well as a number of Democratic voters frustrated with him and his fellow Democratic leaders in Congress.

r52, Joe needs to see what Zero Sum Democrats look like.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | May 12, 2022 9:14 PM |
R52 The Democrats need 60 votes in the Senate to codify Roe or any aspect of Roe, they don't have it and will never get it in this congress. They need 50 Democratic votes to change the rules to kill the filibuster so that they wouldn't need 60 votes, they don't have 50 votes because both Manchin and Sinema have said they won't vote to kill the filibuster for any reason. Joe Scarborough knows this, you should also know this, Joe is bloviating for ratings, what are you doing?
Symbolic votes on this matter is all the Democrats have, if you don't like it then help elect more Democrats not spreading division.

EK: Esteemed justices, let me be clear, I released The Alito Manifesto masquerading as a court opinion. This documentation of the politicization and enshrinement of radical Christianity had to be exposed for the horrific document it is. Fox News swept the advertiser-coveted 25-54 age demographic yet again on Monday, with the network’s lowest-rated show still topping the highest-rated program on CNN or MSNBC.
Fox’s America Reports at 2 p.m. and Your World With Neil Cavuto at 4 p.m. were the lowest-rated shows on the network in the demo, bringing in 191,000 viewers.
However, CNN’s highest-rated program in the demo, Anderson Cooper 360 at 8 p.m., only brought in 163,000 viewers. Meanwhile, MSNBC’s top-rated program in the demo was The Rachel Maddow Show, which brought in 160,000 viewers at 9 p.m.

May Ratings: Fox News Beats CNN & MSNBC Combined For 10th Straight Month, MSNBC Sees Demo Crash
Fox News dominated CNN and MSNBC in the month of May, beating their combined viewers in both the key 25-54 age demographic and in terms of total viewers –for the 10th straight month.
MSNBC came in second place among the three networks in terms of total viewers, while CNN landed in second in the demo.
MSNBC has seen its demo viewership drop sharply in recent weeks and ended May with its lowest day time demo average since November 1999 and its lowest prime time average since May 2004.

by Anonymous | reply 165 | June 2, 2022 7:20 AM |
R164 just loves to post the Fox ratings on the MSNBC thread, probably because if she started a Fox News, and I use that term news loosely, thread it would die a quick death here and get FF'd to hell. However if you combine the CNN and MSNBC numbers historically they aren't that far behind Fox.
Fact is that Fox had 2.27 million viewers in a nation of 332 million people, by comparison 60 minutes had 7 million viewers, Every one of the network News cast on ABC, NBC, and ABC all get higher viewership that Fox News on cable. Hardly anyone watches any of the cable news programs in comparison with network TV.
If you take out the really old people and only look at the 25-54 age demographic Fox only got 229,000 viewers. Which means 2 million of their 2.27 million viewers are over 54.
So R164, it totally amuses me that you think you are posting anything of importance there. It does give me a chuckle.

[quote] Ashely Parker, Carol Leonnig, Phil Rucker, Michael Schmidt are all reporters.
But they're Washington Post or New York Times reporters, not MSNBC reporters. MSNBC barely does any reporting at all. MSNBC's idea of "breaking news" is having Nicolle or Rachel read verbatim from a story on the website of the Washington Post or the New York Times (or sometimes Politico), then interview with the reporter who wrote the story. Chris Jansing while she sure doesn't look it, is 65 years old, they are not going to give her a prime time show. Ageism yes but it isn't going to happen, they will want to invest in someone who will be around for a while.
by Anonymous | reply 259 | June 7, 2022 11:55 PM |
What does Chris Hayes bring to primetime exactly? He's the very definition of extra.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | June 8, 2022 12:10 AM |
Jen Psaki could liven things up.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | June 8, 2022 12:11 AM |
R260 Chris Hayes is sexy. But, I can't remember the last time I watched his show.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | June 8, 2022 12:15 AM |
WHET Luke Russert?
I find MSNBC to be the most timely and reliable source in breaking news stories, releasing new information well before "The New York Times" app, consistently.
by Anonymous | reply 263 | June 8, 2022 12:25 AM |
Shut your pie hole, R259. David Bloom and Tim Russert all but died on the job, and Andrea Mitchell seems committed to stay until she decides otherwise..
Chris Jansing could well outlive all of us; longevity is guaranteed to no one.
by Anonymous | reply 264 | June 8, 2022 12:37 AM |
R261 I'm sorry but Jen Psaki does not have the energy to carry her own show. MSNBC is not in need of yet another bland, liberal commentator.
by Anonymous | reply 265 | June 8, 2022 12:40 AM |
One of the major concerns is a viewership that increasingly cannot tell the difference between news and opinion. Fox News viewers are victim to this. But increasingly so, are MSNBC viewers.
by Anonymous | reply 266 | June 8, 2022 12:43 AM |

He and Robbie Mook are making babies.

[quote] the difference between news and opinion
On Fox the danger is more the difference between news and deliberately false information.
And it's rampant.
by Anonymous | reply 268 | June 8, 2022 7:27 AM |
It costs money to fund a news station that goes beyond sending people to a locale so they can stick mics in peoples' faces. Punditry is cheap and they are clearly given a string of topics and talking points for each day.
Rachel is sucking up an obscene amount of resources and I am over her. Also, I always thought her books and podcasts were boring and only had an audience because she hawked them on air to a legion of fans. Without wall to wall promotion, her extended history lessons are going to fall on their ass.
.

Chris Hayes brings, like, a lot to the table, right? He talks very fast, right, and, like, at the top of his, like, vocal register, right?
by Anonymous | reply 270 | June 8, 2022 12:58 PM |
Is Miles Taylor gay?
FYI-that dude is still a republican no matter how many times he goes on Nicolle’s show.

by Anonymous | reply 272 | June 8, 2022 7:03 PM |
Another thought... Neither Chris Hayes nor Lawrence O'Donnell have ever had very much success ratings-wise on their own. Lawrence benefited from the Rachel lead-in, and Chris' show has always been a weak link. Don't even get me started on Joy. It may be time to rethink the entire primetime lineup.
by Anonymous | reply 273 | June 8, 2022 7:17 PM |
Here's my fantasy MSNBC primetime lineup: All times Eastern.
7pm: The News with Shepard Smith. (Just take his current CNBC newscast and make it flashier). 8pm: Garrett Haake's Washington (kind of like Kasie in DC, only nightly) 9pm: The Wrap with Gadi Schwartz (a look at the day's top stories. Similar to the Countdown format, but less bombastic) 10pm: The Big Board with Steve Kornacki 11pm: The 11th Hour with Shepard Smith

by Anonymous | reply 275 | June 8, 2022 7:29 PM |
R275 Nobody's trolling that I can tell.
by Anonymous | reply 276 | June 8, 2022 7:36 PM |
R268 I don't care if Fox News is worse. Cable news has capitalized on people unable to differentiate between news and opinion.
by Anonymous | reply 277 | June 8, 2022 7:44 PM |
Nicolle had her husband on her show today with no disclosure she married him!
by Anonymous | reply 278 | June 8, 2022 9:39 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 279 | June 8, 2022 10:55 PM |
Chris Hayes show is a two hour show tonight with guest MO "takin' down names and kickin' ass" Brooks. Chris asked Mo, why are you on my show, I doubt we have many conservative voters watching.
by Anonymous | reply 280 | June 9, 2022 1:50 AM |
R274: Arguably, prime time begins at 8:00 pm; only in Joy Ann Reid's overheated wig stand is a broadcast start time of 7 o'clock considered anything other than fringe time.
She should rethink referring to others' musings as "the great lie."
by Anonymous | reply 281 | June 9, 2022 2:54 AM |
R289, It is so funny to listen to a Trumpublican avoid talking about his body armor while running his Trumpublican talking points after being repudiated by Trump himself.
by Anonymous | reply 282 | June 9, 2022 3:24 AM |
R282 His attempt to explain the most inflammatory lines in his 01/06 speech were so tortured. His demeanor on the show seems much more rational if you ignore all the bullshit he was spewing.

Katty Kay, help us out. MSNBC stale?
by Anonymous | reply 288 | June 9, 2022 12:16 PM |
I like Rachel but don't really feel the one-show-a-week thing really works. If she's supposed to be the "face" of the network, then they should've told her either you keep doing five shows a week like everybody else or we'll give your slot to someone else. The 9:00 hour is prime real estate and to waste it by having her there one lousy night of the week, then turn it over to a parade of (with all due respect) far less exciting names under the banner "MSNBC Prime" is just ludicrous in my opinion and I wouldn't have let her get away with it.
by Anonymous | reply 289 | June 9, 2022 12:45 PM |
Yes. R289 And they should not let Rachel continue to anchor special event coverage with that inane Joy Reid.
by Anonymous | reply 290 | June 9, 2022 12:48 PM |
I originally thought when they announced the Rachel once-a-week thing, that she would do a documentary or a magazine-type show once a week, maybe on Sunday nights. I never thought it was just going to be a regular old show on Monday nights.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | June 9, 2022 12:53 PM |
Tell Chris Hayes to wear tighter shirts and suits to show off his massive muscles. That will bring in the viewers to his show.
by Anonymous | reply 292 | June 9, 2022 1:36 PM |
Chris has a perfectly nice average toned dad bod. His suits are already quite snug. His IG provides a good resource for assessing his actual physique.
Still I get it, fantasizing can be fun.

I’d rather see them interviewing journalists than politicians. Most politicians just use an interview to say whatever they want—often party talking points. BORING. There are a few exceptions who actually respond to the questions asked.

by Anonymous | reply 301 | June 9, 2022 6:59 PM |
My problem is not that the hosts talk with reporters from other news organizations. But it's the same fucking people all the time, providing no new insights and just spouting the same talking points
by Anonymous | reply 302 | June 9, 2022 7:05 PM |
[quote]Before COVID, Chris was having a studio audience mini-town hall. It was brilliant. He needs to revisit the occasional format.
Oh god, that was the worst fucking thing ever. Chris Hayes shouting at a live audience instead of just yelling at you through your TV. I hope that never comes back.
by Anonymous | reply 303 | June 9, 2022 7:21 PM |
Their problem is there’s a huge issue (the attempted coup) and what’s being done is being done secretly and slowly. They don’t want to divert attention from the story, but there isn’t much to say. Yet.
by Anonymous | reply 304 | June 9, 2022 7:33 PM |
Just think: on the verge of co-hosting MSNBC's live coverage of the historic January 6 Hearings, Joy Ann Reid stands in her closet trying to decide which gaudy ensemble will be most appropriate to wear.
"Wig, don't fail me now!"
by Anonymous | reply 305 | June 9, 2022 7:52 PM |

People need to be vetted for TV, not every reporter can be a thrown on national television.
by Anonymous | reply 317 | June 10, 2022 10:58 AM |
R317: Helene Cooper is a longtime fixture on news programs who, until recently, has been missing from the circuit. Perhaps her absence was due to illness which might explain her reduced confidence on-screen.
