What colors do you DISLIKE?

Are there any colors that make you irritated, or jangle your nerves? Ones you're tired of seeing?

I really dislike drunk-tank pink (Baker Miller pink). It bugs me.

OP, I break the DL R1 rule by saying this is the greatest thread opener of all time.

Or do I?

by Anonymousreply 1May 5, 2022 8:44 PM

I don't like that pink, either, OP. I'd prefer something much lighter.

The colors I don't like are orange and brown.

by Anonymousreply 2May 5, 2022 8:45 PM

This one.

I mean, every gosh-darned month.

Hate red and fuschia.

by Anonymousreply 4May 5, 2022 8:50 PM

Really, this suite, and not just because the namer obviously doesn't know what any variety of chive, fresh or dried, looks like. "Dishonest greens" that mock the chlorophyll!

My hatred for red is quite well-known among my family.

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2022 8:52 PM

I loathe the UPS truck color. Colorblind. I can't tell if it is green or brown.

by Anonymousreply 7May 5, 2022 8:53 PM

Gray. I call it "Black for Cowards."

Orange.

Maple-Furniture Brown. Hate it!

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2022 8:57 PM

sounds weird but, blue of any variety except very dark blue. I find it cold and depressing.

by Anonymousreply 9May 5, 2022 9:00 PM

Ochre. It goes with so few useful colors, and leads one into an overreliance on tacky Earth tones.

by Anonymousreply 10May 5, 2022 9:04 PM

Taupe because I loathe Poi.

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2022 9:04 PM

I eat blue.

by Anonymousreply 12May 5, 2022 9:06 PM

On the other hand, Skobeloff is a tasteful color. It's refined, yet masculine.

by Anonymousreply 13May 5, 2022 9:06 PM

OP here. Surprised people hate red. I love red. Chinese red is one of my favorites.

Agree with the hating fuschia though. I guess I have a problem with pink.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 14May 5, 2022 9:16 PM

Yeah red is one of my favorites, especially dark red. But then again everyone says blue is their favorite and I mostly hate it.

by Anonymousreply 15May 5, 2022 9:18 PM

Orange

by Anonymousreply 16May 5, 2022 9:21 PM

griege - if grey is too strong for you. So neutral.... so dull

Like red, not a big fan of pink

by Anonymousreply 17May 5, 2022 10:21 PM

I dislike purple. I noticed that people who like purple really go nuts over it, e.g., Prince.

I also dislike the '70s colors: mustard yellow, olive green, and brown. Especially bad when all combined.

by Anonymousreply 18May 5, 2022 10:29 PM

Those 90s jewel tone colors. Teal, forest green, mustard yellow, purply burgundy

by Anonymousreply 19May 5, 2022 10:31 PM

Overly bright colors, red and pink also, overly bright blue, green, yellow, purple.

Subdued colors are best, especially light browns. Tobacco is the perfect color.

by Anonymousreply 20May 5, 2022 10:37 PM

Maroon

by Anonymousreply 21May 5, 2022 10:38 PM

I still want to know what color Pam Anderson's caftan is. Not quite orange, not quite red

by Anonymousreply 22May 5, 2022 10:45 PM

I also hate purple. Particularly, darker purples.

by Anonymousreply 23May 5, 2022 10:52 PM

Camel, especially light camel is also perfect.

Yes I know I'm getting into colors I like.

I like brown men too, am sorta light camel, and many of my relatives are light brown shades.

I have a brown fetish.

by Anonymousreply 24May 5, 2022 10:54 PM

I'm very tired of the all white interiors. I don't mind white walls or some white thrown in, but I need color and warmth and some patterns.

by Anonymousreply 25May 5, 2022 10:58 PM

Agree, white is over. So garish.

by Anonymousreply 26May 5, 2022 10:59 PM

"Burgundy ", "oxblood" , those deep reddish- brown, bloody colors. Blech.

by Anonymousreply 27May 5, 2022 11:07 PM

i love purple

by Anonymousreply 28May 5, 2022 11:08 PM

My favorite colors are dark red, burgundy, and dark purple as well as all sorts of shades of green except lime. Guess I don't have the DL color palette

by Anonymousreply 29May 5, 2022 11:25 PM

Red. I don't wear it or have it in my house. I've hated the color since I was a young boy.

by Anonymousreply 30May 5, 2022 11:27 PM

R24 and r29 can't read. And r24 has lousy taste in colors.

by Anonymousreply 31May 5, 2022 11:36 PM

I love pink. Especially pink flowers.

by Anonymousreply 32May 5, 2022 11:50 PM

Pink is aggressively icky. It grates on me the same way baby-talking people do and people who force their pets to wear clothing. I feel suffocated by it anywhere and in any amount.

by Anonymousreply 33May 5, 2022 11:50 PM

Sorry, R32. I didn’t mean to cast aspersions on your color choice, just on the color itself. We wrote at nearly the same time and came down 180 degrees off of one another. Shall we agree to disagree? That’s my vote.

by Anonymousreply 34May 5, 2022 11:53 PM

red is an awesome color, I look horrible in it

by Anonymousreply 35May 5, 2022 11:54 PM

I think yellow is the least appealing color. The only time I want to see it is in certain fruits & vegetables and with foods such as curry or a lemon dessert. Other than that, I'm never happy to see yellow.

by Anonymousreply 36May 5, 2022 11:58 PM

Powder pink and blue … they make up the trans flag, and I HATE TRANS!

by Anonymousreply 37May 6, 2022 12:00 AM

I don't like yellow, either, r36. I bought some yellow dishes once, thinking they'd go well with my turquoise dishes. It's not a bad look, but I found I don't like eating off of yellow plates. It was just a few pieces. I'll probably give them away.

by Anonymousreply 38May 6, 2022 12:01 AM

None, just ugly patterns and combinations.

Usually, any color is bearable with the right lighting.

by Anonymousreply 39May 6, 2022 12:04 AM

Mustard yellow or mustard brown. So bilious. However, a rich brown accompanied by a mellow cream can be soothing. I hate battleship gray, but charcoal gray is civilized.

by Anonymousreply 40May 6, 2022 12:06 AM

I hate soft pastels...blue, pink, mint green make me want to hurl. I love persimmon.

by Anonymousreply 41May 6, 2022 12:08 AM

I don't like greeny-yellow. Chartreuse? Also dislike bright orange shades.

by Anonymousreply 42May 6, 2022 12:08 AM

I can’t stand the color gold and all shades of pink.

by Anonymousreply 43May 6, 2022 12:11 AM

Periwinkle, the "in" color. And gray.

by Anonymousreply 44May 6, 2022 12:12 AM

I love a charmeuse chartreuse silk paired with a turquoise or peacock mohair or cut linen velvet, great for a chaise or davenport. I hate baby shit green-browns.

by Anonymousreply 45May 6, 2022 12:14 AM

This is actually fascinating. I can't wrap my brain around it though. What causes all of these preferences?

by Anonymousreply 46May 6, 2022 12:16 AM

Chartreuse and turquoise are one of my favorite color combinations, r45, and there are a number of blues that work well as a third color.

by Anonymousreply 47May 6, 2022 12:22 AM

R46 pretentiousness

And negative associations from their upbringings.

by Anonymousreply 48May 6, 2022 12:23 AM

I like medium and dark grays (no purple tones in the gray).

Don't like light gray, which does seem namby-pamby.

by Anonymousreply 49May 6, 2022 12:30 AM

Art major here. I understand the dislike for yellow. However, when I was painting (oils) on a regular basis, I was really drawn to putting bright, unadulterated yellows on the canvas. I tend to get depressed, so maybe the color helped balance out my mood.

by Anonymousreply 50May 6, 2022 12:33 AM

I hate orange and I finally learned that orange was the color of Protestants in Ireland while Green was the color for Catholics (the Irish Flag being both) and I think it was just ingrained in me not to like orange. I heard it's a serious FU to wear orange on St. Patricks day. I only like pink or brown when outside in nature or for wood furniture.

I love Navy Blue, it just makes me happy. Its the perfect color.

by Anonymousreply 51May 6, 2022 12:35 AM

that dingy yellow -grey ,overcooked hard boiled egg color is used a lot to paint walls in schools and offices. That shade of yellow looks cheap and dreary.

by Anonymousreply 52May 6, 2022 12:37 AM

I once spent an uncomfortable weekend as a guest in a house which was painted entirely in various shades of red. It was like a slaughterhouse.

by Anonymousreply 53May 6, 2022 12:44 AM

Lavender/Mauve.

by Anonymousreply 54May 6, 2022 12:48 AM

Royal blue, the shade so popular in the 80s but still popular today. Especially with Kate Middleton.

by Anonymousreply 55May 6, 2022 1:03 AM

That '80s trio of raspberry sorbet, rust, and middle blue, so popular in doctors' offices, usually as trim on pale beige walls.

by Anonymousreply 56May 6, 2022 1:08 AM

Puce.

And Magenta (not really)

by Anonymousreply 57May 6, 2022 1:32 AM

I do not care for pastels of any color.

by Anonymousreply 58May 6, 2022 2:28 AM

No, r48. R46? One's skintone, often. E.g., I look best in the jewel tones disliked by r19, plus reds, hot pinks, purples, and black.

Yellow, though? Brown? Olive? Bleagh!

Colors are like music---they resonate differently with individuals.

by Anonymousreply 59May 6, 2022 5:34 AM

TEAL

by Anonymousreply 60May 6, 2022 5:54 AM

Painting men's jails in hot pink has a calming effect and helps them get in touch with their feminine sides.

Most women's prisons' uniforms are either blue or orange. Does this have the opposite effect and make them fall in line better?

Nudes, I suppose. Beige, tans, and browns in the beige and tan shade range. Off whites, creams, etc. Yellow, brass and golds. I detest greenery in floral arrangements, but love it otherwise. More often than not, it’s the color scheme that is unnerving not an individual color.

by Anonymousreply 62May 6, 2022 6:38 AM

Parisian pastels. Impeccable taste and practically doesn't appeal to me.

by Anonymousreply 63May 6, 2022 7:06 AM

practicality

by Anonymousreply 64May 6, 2022 7:07 AM

Ecru, so drab and lifeless.

by Anonymousreply 65May 6, 2022 7:17 AM

Dusty pink. Salmon pink. Mushroom pink. Dusty blue, dusty anything.

by Anonymousreply 66May 6, 2022 7:37 AM

Bogan Pink.

It's that shade of pink the lower classes in Australia like to dress their daughters in, paint their daughter's bedrooms etc. Go to a Big W, Kmart, Target, Best and Less it's there a plenty.

by Anonymousreply 67May 6, 2022 8:14 AM

Yellow. Any shade of it.

by Anonymousreply 68May 6, 2022 8:26 AM

pearlized pearl colors on anything other than pearls.

by Anonymousreply 69May 6, 2022 8:42 AM

I don't like having to look at too many colors at once. It's visual cacophony. The gay rainbow never appealed to me for this reason; the newer one is even worse. Three colors, maybe four, are all I want to look at at one time. I like Fiestaware, but I don't want to see every color on the same table.

by Anonymousreply 70May 6, 2022 11:14 AM

Teal is, indeed, an awful color. I'm sure it looks good on the bird (teal). But it overtakes all other colors, somehow. It's not "natural" looking nor is it "artificial" looking. Chartreuse is a color that I do like and would consider it artificial-looking. Small doses, though.

by Anonymousreply 71May 6, 2022 4:30 PM

I can deal with teal but a certain shade of mint green sends me into a rage.

by Anonymousreply 72May 6, 2022 11:26 PM

[quote]Teal is, indeed, an awful color.

r71, do you consider Skobeloff, which r13 mentions, a shade of teal? I like it a lot, as well as Fiestaware's similar color, Juniper. I also like light shades of turquoise.

I can't stand the medium shade we used to see in senior citizens' tracksuits, combined with fuschia and tangerine that sold at cheap places like Syms or Marshalls.

Claret and Black

by Anonymousreply 76May 6, 2022 11:46 PM

by Anonymousreply 77May 6, 2022 11:47 PM

Blue. I love teal, aqua, turquoise but I hate plain blue or baby blue. As a photographer, I like it in gel lighting but that’s it. I hate blue clothes, blue jeans, blue houses, etc.

by Anonymousreply 78May 6, 2022 11:50 PM

I don't like rainbow colors together if they are bright. They clash for me. But I love a rainbow in jewel tones. I had a set of pride rings that were metal and jewel-toned; they were beautiful.

I like colors in combination, like pink and black or purple and khaki. I remember one of Prince Andrew's daughter wore a cobalt blue dress at a recent royal wedding, maybe William & Kate's. It was stand alone gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 79May 6, 2022 11:57 PM

Cerulean.

by Anonymousreply 85May 7, 2022 2:07 AM

R61, social researchers working with jails and prisons (Pink was used more in the shorter-term facilities.) studying color impact found that pink was soothing/calming for a period of 1/2-1 hour, and then irritation and agitation became more and more prominent. It was as if it took that long for the underlying red sense to get through and upset people unconsciously.

No facility should ever use pink on the walls. Some pink is fine, but being surrounded by it, even in a house, is asking for trouble.

by Anonymousreply 86May 7, 2022 2:32 AM

I'm thinking yellow to impersonate daylight and some light pinkish. blue i feel would cause some definite suicides.

by Anonymousreply 87May 7, 2022 3:09 AM

Magenta.

by Anonymousreply 88May 7, 2022 3:11 AM

What's wrong with white? Or black?

I'd prefer that to jewel tones in a prison setting. Both seem calming to me.

by Anonymousreply 89May 7, 2022 3:12 AM

Look at me, look at me, I'm yellow!

by Anonymousreply 90May 7, 2022 3:16 AM

At this point, I feel like black anything isn't chic - it's basic, boring and trying to be classic and refined, when it really just shows a lack of imagination or style.

This coming from a former New Yorker who used to extoll the virtues of black - I've now ridden my closet and life of the color.

I can understand why Barbra Streisand painted her microphones white. It's strange - but now I see black and I think dated and drab.

by Anonymousreply 91May 7, 2022 3:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 92May 7, 2022 3:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 94May 7, 2022 4:07 AM

My good friend is currently re-doing her Family room. Everything---new flooring, Oriental rug, wall paint, and two sofas---will be gray. She said the color is "trendy."

I call it "dull."

by Anonymousreply 95May 10, 2022 4:48 PM

R50, its it known in the art world yellow is the color of insanity ie van gough

by Anonymousreply 96May 10, 2022 6:14 PM

No yellow or blue inside the house, only outside in flowers etc. Some navy can be ok in the right places. Yellow is too jarring inside at all.

by Anonymousreply 97May 10, 2022 7:47 PM

That 80s country decor combo of mauve and dusty blue. Horrid. It made one nostalgic for avocado and harvest gold.

by Anonymousreply 98May 13, 2022 4:26 AM

Gerber's Spinach Baby Poop Green.

by Anonymousreply 99May 13, 2022 1:00 PM

Purple is a bit overrated because it has this sombre hue that does not stand the test of time.

by Anonymousreply 100May 13, 2022 1:05 PM

Blazing orange; I despise it.

Many years ago, I overheard a conversation, with HR and work environment consultant. The color orange, on the walls and throughout the work space induces an agitated, hostile work environment. It can even create violence among the workers.

I was stuck in a temp job, on a computer. The work space had dingy gray walls, with a Walmart style blue accents. It was a horribly stressful, negative work area. It was so dreary. I hated it. If that place was painted orange, someone would’ve gone postal.

by Anonymousreply 101May 13, 2022 1:15 PM
