Socks/Shoes/Sandals

OP the only people I see wearing socks (and with those hideous slide ons) are very trashy looking people at Walmart.

I'll wear socks + sandals around my apartment building or when I am running to the corner store to grab a coffee, but definitely wouldn't wear them if I am really going "out" somewhere.

The late and great Joan Rivers described Billings, Montana as having “women in high heels and socks!”

Working in banking with most of us back to the office and often needing to wear business clothes, I've yet to see anyone wearing dress shoes with no socks around here. Plus it seems pretty uncomfortable.

Socks are perfectly acceptable with slides…the whole purpose of slides is so you can take your soccer shoes off and “slide” into the slides. Get it? And no, gramps, it’s not just Walmart people who do it (you must spend a lot of time there to be the authority you think you are) most college age guys wear socks in slides, and flip flops without socks. And dress shoes without socks is fine too. You do your support hose and Velcro, and let everybody else do what they like.

Socks are on the way out, and it’s none too soon. They are no longer considered fashionable.

R6 = low class trash and my legs are just fine without support hose. These types are often seen with women wearing fluffy house shoes and shower caps.

I remember Carrie Bradshaw of SATC wore heels with socks and mini skirts. Looked ridiculous.

Socks with with heels is cute if you’re a teenaged Clueless-type preppy middle/highschool girl. Or in the cast of Grease. Aside from that, not sure about it.

Trust me R15 it looks ridiculous on a 45 yo woman.

R6 is right. Slides are also popular with baseball players because the cleats track in lots of dirt into the locker room. Wearing them as casual wear is debatable but they certainly do serve a purpose.

R17 they are fine in showers and locker rooms but wearing around town? Trash.

With all athletes R17, not just baseball players. You don't want to wear your game shoes on the street--they wear out faster and you might step in something unfortunate

Socks and sandals has Asian origins. In Japan and many other Asian countries, you do not wear your street shoes into the house. You slip them off and don a pair of house slippers or sandals. (The same applies for any restaurant which has tatami mats - they supply the slippers as you enter the establishment.) The younger generation took this to the next stage by wearing sandals rather than laced shoes when outdoors since it's easier to switch between the two.

The fat slobs I see wearing Adidas slides with socks are not athletes. I think it has more to do with them not being able to see their feet under their gut so tieing sneakers is out of the question.

No wants wants to see all the dirty nasty unkempt feet. Please wear socks or keep your ugly crusty feet covered. Why do people feel the need to show their feet so much now?

Socks with slides has been a thing in L.A. for years. Not justifying nor condemning the trend, just saying that it's hardly anything new.

No basic daily-use garment is more unseasonable or uncomfortable or more difficult to wear all day.

It would be really uncomfortable, R4: sweaty, and potentially developing hot spots & blisters. No thank you. I don't even like wearing dock shoes without socks. Sandals are the reason I like to go sockless. I love to let my feet breathe, considering I wear socks with everything else, the rest of the time.

On socks with sandals - it works for hiking.

I wear ultrathin silk or microfibre toe sock liners beneath a pair of thick 100% merino socks with Teva hiking sandals (absolutely no cotton - it soaks up sweat like a wet sponge instead of wicking moisture away). From midsummer to in light snow, I get zero blisters. It’s THE way to hike.
