Socks/Shoes/Sandals

Jr. Gays, can you explain how you got your sock/shoe/sandal fashion protocol so mixed up. You WEAR socks with your dress shoes and you DO NOT WEAR socks with you slides or any other sandals. Thank you.

OP the only people I see wearing socks (and with those hideous slide ons) are very trashy looking people at Walmart.

by Anonymousreply 1May 5, 2022 3:50 PM

I'll wear socks + sandals around my apartment building or when I am running to the corner store to grab a coffee, but definitely wouldn't wear them if I am really going "out" somewhere.

The late and great Joan Rivers described Billings, Montana as having “women in high heels and socks!”

by Anonymousreply 3May 5, 2022 5:09 PM

Working in banking with most of us back to the office and often needing to wear business clothes, I've yet to see anyone wearing dress shoes with no socks around here. Plus it seems pretty uncomfortable.

Socks are perfectly acceptable with slides…the whole purpose of slides is so you can take your soccer shoes off and “slide” into the slides. Get it? And no, gramps, it’s not just Walmart people who do it (you must spend a lot of time there to be the authority you think you are) most college age guys wear socks in slides, and flip flops without socks. And dress shoes without socks is fine too. You do your support hose and Velcro, and let everybody else do what they like.

by Anonymousreply 6May 5, 2022 9:04 PM

Socks are on the way out, and it’s none too soon. They are no longer considered fashionable.

by Anonymousreply 7May 5, 2022 9:08 PM

Fashion has changed!

by Anonymousreply 8May 5, 2022 9:09 PM

R6 = low class trash and my legs are just fine without support hose. These types are often seen with women wearing fluffy house shoes and shower caps.

Clearly OP hasn't met the England national mens' senior football squad, in all their dirty-white-besocked and sliderish glory.

Joan reaching for high hanging fruit, as always.

by Anonymousreply 11May 5, 2022 9:47 PM

how about we wear what we want without your silly cockish rules because you have too much time on your hands bcuz nobody loves you you're pathetic and everybody hates your guts? 😁🤪

by Anonymousreply 12May 6, 2022 12:18 AM

OP it is how some of us show solidarity with our lesbian sisters.

by Anonymousreply 13May 6, 2022 5:35 AM

I remember Carrie Bradshaw of SATC wore heels with socks and mini skirts. Looked ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 14May 6, 2022 12:41 PM

Socks with with heels is cute if you’re a teenaged Clueless-type preppy middle/highschool girl. Or in the cast of Grease. Aside from that, not sure about it.

by Anonymousreply 15May 6, 2022 1:01 PM

Trust me R15 it looks ridiculous on a 45 yo woman.

by Anonymousreply 16May 6, 2022 1:15 PM

R6 is right. Slides are also popular with baseball players because the cleats track in lots of dirt into the locker room. Wearing them as casual wear is debatable but they certainly do serve a purpose.

by Anonymousreply 17May 6, 2022 1:56 PM

R17 they are fine in showers and locker rooms but wearing around town? Trash.

by Anonymousreply 18May 6, 2022 1:58 PM

With all athletes R17, not just baseball players. You don't want to wear your game shoes on the street--they wear out faster and you might step in something unfortunate

by Anonymousreply 19May 6, 2022 2:02 PM

I never get the class anxiety of Eldergays like R18

If I saw someone dressed like that I'd either think they were on the way to/from the gym or that they didn't give AF about fashion, "Hiss-Trash-Hiss!" is the last thing that would come to mind,

Socks and sandals has Asian origins. In Japan and many other Asian countries, you do not wear your street shoes into the house. You slip them off and don a pair of house slippers or sandals. (The same applies for any restaurant which has tatami mats - they supply the slippers as you enter the establishment.) The younger generation took this to the next stage by wearing sandals rather than laced shoes when outdoors since it's easier to switch between the two.

The fat slobs I see wearing Adidas slides with socks are not athletes. I think it has more to do with them not being able to see their feet under their gut so tieing sneakers is out of the question.

by Anonymousreply 22May 6, 2022 3:17 PM

No wants wants to see all the dirty nasty unkempt feet. Please wear socks or keep your ugly crusty feet covered. Why do people feel the need to show their feet so much now?

by Anonymousreply 23May 6, 2022 3:25 PM

Barking up the wrong tree R20.

by Anonymousreply 24May 6, 2022 4:34 PM

Women stopped wearing stockings & hose in the 90s. Time for men to follow suit.

by Anonymousreply 25May 7, 2022 12:07 AM

Socks with slides has been a thing in L.A. for years. Not justifying nor condemning the trend, just saying that it's hardly anything new.

by Anonymousreply 26May 7, 2022 1:13 AM

How would you know what woman are wearing for certain, R25?

by Anonymousreply 27May 7, 2022 1:56 AM

It's time for men to stop wearing stockings and hose?

by Anonymousreply 29May 7, 2022 1:59 AM

White socks and sandals is a very German thing.

You take that back! Do you want me to make you cry again, Meghan?

by Anonymousreply 31May 7, 2022 2:09 AM

Those slides — with or without the socks — look awful. The socks just make them look even more dreadful.

by Anonymousreply 32May 7, 2022 3:34 AM

They are probably hiding some grotesque, toe fungus.

by Anonymousreply 33May 7, 2022 3:45 AM

Are mantyhose the next "thing"? Can one wear them with slides or sandals?

[quote] How would you know what woman are wearing for certain,

I have eyes. Legs are bare, and so are their feet in those high-heeled sandals which are so popular. Women have also been pretty vocal about getting rid of stockings.

by Anonymousreply 35May 7, 2022 4:26 AM

Only a fetishist would want to bring hosiery back.

No basic daily-use garment is more unseasonable or uncomfortable or more difficult to wear all day.

by Anonymousreply 36May 7, 2022 10:36 AM

[quote] "Plus it seems pretty uncomfortable."

It would be really uncomfortable, R4: sweaty, and potentially developing hot spots & blisters. No thank you. I don't even like wearing dock shoes without socks. Sandals are the reason I like to go sockless. I love to let my feet breathe, considering I wear socks with everything else, the rest of the time.

by Anonymousreply 37May 7, 2022 11:04 AM

On socks with sandals - it works for hiking.

I wear ultrathin silk or microfibre toe sock liners beneath a pair of thick 100% merino socks with Teva hiking sandals (absolutely no cotton - it soaks up sweat like a wet sponge instead of wicking moisture away). From midsummer to in light snow, I get zero blisters. It’s THE way to hike.
