Louis Theroux is a cousin to Justin Theroux. He's a British-American documentary filmmaker.

In his early days, he wrote for Spy magazine, and was in a TV show produced by Michael Moore.

He had a few seasons of a documentary series focused on American whackjobs.

He's gotten more serious in his focus in the last couple of decades, focusing on life in American prisons, the American drug culture, cop culture, dementia, coma patients, Alzheimer patients, chronic alcoholism, etc.

I enjoy his documentaries but he has blind spots. He did a documentary about Jimmy Savile that presented him in a favorable light, right before the revelations about Savile's predatory sexual behavior and necrophilia came to light. Then he did another documentary about how he overlooked every single signal that Savile was a genuine pervert.

I like him. He's got some fans who won't listen to a single negative thing about him. He's not perfect but he's a good documentarian, and in his early days, could be pretty funny.

I just watched his Scientology documentary and it changed my mind about Scientologists and their reputation of being menacing.

They ones that confronted Theroux acted like a bunch of pussies! Once you turn around and start asking them questions they turn around a run away, even the camera people! They make the Jehovah’s Witnesses look like the Hells Angels! Maybe it’s intimidating when it’s everyday or you’ve lived in it for a long time but honestly it’s like a cult of Karen’s.
