Im a recent fan. Love it. I hope this means the original series will be available for purchase in the US because of this reboot.

For a second i thought they were going to make another US version. Which was a complete misfire.

Magda like most comedians is not funny or lighthearted off screen. No one that fat is happy.

I have a region free dvd player and have all years of the series plus the tv movie and theatrical film. Love them all.

Best-timed bit I've ever seen is when Kath and Kim are discussing Kath's upcoming wedding. Kim suggests they elope. Kath says "Oh Kim, we can't elope!" while pulling a melon out of the refrigerator.

I love this show so much.

Oh, I disagree. Well, I mean, I do think the first two seasons were the best too, but I think 3 and 4 and the TV movie were still really good. The one thing about season 4 is that that was when it moved to commercial TV rather than the ABC and it did feel a bit different, but still enjoyable. I liked the episode where Matt Lucas turns up as Sharon's long lost sister - a model for fat magazines.

The movie was weird though. Like on an individual joke to joke level it still had some very funny material, but the whole storyline just wasn't very Kath and Kim. They really shouldn't be taken out of the suburbs.

Zero idea. So much of the humour is about Kath needling Kim about her weight and I bet that won't fly these days for a start.

I would almost like to see them in a situation like the Brady Bunch movie, where they are exactly the same as they always were, but they’re interacting in the present day world without comment, but the tension between that exists.

Speaking of stealing jokes, I remember seeing an episode of Modern Family that clearly stole the "little baby cheeses" joke from Kath and Kim.

I watched the whole series recently and had forgotten how funny it was and totally free of political leanings. I suspect it will be a hot, woke mess, the way most reboots are now.

There was also a call out in Sydney recently for extras to be in a gay club scene. I've seen Magda around few times and she is really overweight now and walks with a cane.

Kim: My favorite movie's [italic]Shallow Hal.[/italic] I can relate.

Kath: Why? Because you're fat?

Kim: No, because I'm shallow! GOD, you're mean to me!

There isn’t a reboot. They filmed 10 minutes of new material for a retrospective this year, the 20th anniversary. That’s all.

The baby cheeses episode was a catalyst for all sorts of Cheeses -Jesus memes. Still cracks me up to this day. Cheese's Crust, the Cheeses of Nazareth, and so on. I plan on catching the remake, but do not have high expectations, though even the last season still had me laughing my arse off. Sometimes it's best to leave a classic alone. We shall see.

Will it be on Netflix for those of us in the US?

I always enjoyed the (very) few scenes that had all four of the women in it. Marg Downey was originally "Nanna Day" in the sketch show version of Kath and Kim and was "Marion" here. I can't remember why it was she didn't have a bigger part in Kath and Kim - I think it had to do with her having other acting commitments around that time (she may have been doing more "straight" work, rather than comedy).

I know Magda is a lesbian, I've often wondered if Marg was too. She looks very similar to one of my best friend's girlfriend.

R73 yes it's the same. Poofs as shortened form of poofter.

Also, a related Australian (and to lesser extent UK word) word is "poonce" meaning an outrageous and effeminate man in dress and manners. The Poonce Institute is not one of their better sketches, though Marg is great in it.

Ugh, they're making Kim and Brett rich in the reboot. That's not going to work.

R77, there’s no reboot. It’s 10 minutes of new footage with a look back at the show. It’s just to celebrate the anniversary of the show. They also filmed this in front of a green screen as the house was torn down.

The US Kath & Kim was where I fell in love with a pre (onscreen, at least) SNL Mikey Day.

The biggest Kath & Kim fan I follow on IG @worthlesstwink Was super disappointed in the use of green screen. I almost don’t want to see it now :/
