I live in Orlando and live in them. However, it does seem that sandals are the new preference around here. I think it may be a generational thing.

Aren't sandals the same thing as flip flops? Or, is it rubber vs leather?

For men? Flip flops? Oh, dear God. Never a good thing.

I'm glad they aren't as popular anymore. In the 2000s, every white guy wore them and if they had some ugly feet it would be off-putting.

Just in the yard or for short trips to the store. I can’t wear them for any length of time.

I wear a pair of Tommy Hilfiger flippy-floppies erryday around the house.

Slides have pretty much taken their place imho. Flip-flops leave your feet too unprotected, you can slip/wipe out too easily, they chafe at that spot between your toes. Terrible design, terrible name. Strange they were so popular for so long actually.

Im in Florida as well, I wish white guys wouldn't wear them so, so much. They look hot on guys with nice big feet, in appropriate settings. However old guys with ugly crusty feet in flip flops are so ubiquitous it cancels the hot ones out.

I really hope someone invents a new sandal. I don't want to look like a gladiator, a spring breaker or a mountain climber (those awful rubber things don't belong on a city street). Seems like an easy challenge.

I noticed one thing gay and straight men have in common is their obsession with feet. I never heard of straight or gay women being aroused by feet. Many straight women tell me they love big hands, shoulders and triceps on a guy though.

I live in Berkeley, CA and there is a law here that you must own (and wear) at least one pair of old flip-flops.

And yes it’s totally cultural. I’m half black, I’m from the city. Black American men don’t wear sandals or flip-flops, they were slides with high socks at the most. And same for urban white guys, flip-flops and sandals are frowned upon.

I remember when I took my DNA test and got Nigerian, I told my father “now you can wear sandals!”.

From my view, it’s rude and disrespectful for a man to walk around exposing his ugly feet. I work in the beauty industry, women groom their feet! Men have never heard of Pumi Bars and exfoliating peels and women also put some polish on their toes.

When a guy walks in somewhere and I have to look at his ugly ass feet, it’s all I can see and it’s disgusting.

And I’m in Massachusetts, the beaches are cold and the streets are concrete and brick. Cover them up and stop making everyone sick!

R36 Geezer? I said I was watching it out of nostalgia, so I was a teenager during that period. 2000s fashion was ugly and I say that as a survivor of that era of youth fashion.

I had a pair in 1977. Dark magenta velour-ish fabric on top, bamboo soles. I couldn't stand the thing between my toes. One day I kicked them off into a closet and never looked at them again until I moved out of that apartment. Now I'm old, and would not subject the general public to my no longer lovely feet.

OK where? I see more late 1980s influence among white Gen Z like MC Hammer pants, crop tops, fades, curly perms, mullets, boots and dangle earrings. Kpop ripped a lot of its aesthetic from New Jack Swing style of New Edition, New Kids on the Block and Janet Jackson. Trap and Soundcloud rap style of Black Gen Z involves a lot of braids, dreads, hair dye, skinny ripped jeans, sneakers, hoodies, plaid shirts, etc.

I agree. I live in Fl and retired only to find out that the theater job I wanted used flip flops as part of their uniform. I hated it, especially that rope between the toes. I also hated that by boss was half my age, but that's another story.

I wore them as a kid but I don't understand how adults can wear them. They can't be good for your feet! Even Crocs provide more protection.

But they mess up your feet if worn too long and consistently.

I ended up with plantar fasciitis one year, as a result.

R10 is right. Slides are the thing now. I have two pair, for the pool and beach only. Mine are Adidas, one pair in blue and another in black. They’re pretty sturdy. Flip flops with the thin toe divider are probably best for communal showers, but not for walking long distances. You might also wear these if you’re showering in a budget hotel, or visiting the rest room on a sleep train, things like that.

I see people wear slides with socks on airplanes, and understand that’s probably to accommodate swelling on longer flights.

But Jesus take care of your feet! Thick, yellow fungal toenails don’t belong on display. I think toe fungus is very common and comes from poor quality shoes that don’t allow enough oxygen to circulate and keep anaerobic fungus and bacteria at bay. So wash with soap and dry thoroughly.

I blew out one over forty years ago and I'm still hopping on one foot to the cantina for blender supplies.

Sanuk makes the most comfortable flip flops- they have arch support and yoga mat material. I wear them year round here in Laguna. They aren't cheap though, $50-60.

Flip flops are my "running out to pick up take out/going to the convenience store" shoes. I also find that they're not ideal for walking long distances, but just for quick errands.

I do, female, but I live in Southern CA and lots of people wear them year round here. I don't have painted toes but I keep up my feet mostly. No nasty corns, calluses or hairs.

I like to hike and more than once I’ve seen people (usually younger females) wearing flip flops on the trails.
