Does anyone still wear flip-flops?

I haven't seen any around for awhile.

by Anonymousreply 81May 5, 2022 3:16 AM

Because it’s been winter?

by Anonymousreply 1May 1, 2022 2:04 PM

At the beach

by Anonymousreply 2May 1, 2022 2:05 PM

I live in Orlando and live in them. However, it does seem that sandals are the new preference around here. I think it may be a generational thing.

by Anonymousreply 3May 1, 2022 2:06 PM

Aren't sandals the same thing as flip flops? Or, is it rubber vs leather?

by Anonymousreply 4May 1, 2022 2:08 PM

For men? Flip flops? Oh, dear God. Never a good thing.

r4 While a sandal may have a single large strap across your instep akin to a flip flop, if it has ankle support, it's a sandal and not a flip flop. The distinguishable ankle strap look means sandals offer better foot support than flip flops do. Since flip flops have no ankle support, they flip and flop around!

by Anonymousreply 6May 1, 2022 2:13 PM

I'm glad they aren't as popular anymore. In the 2000s, every white guy wore them and if they had some ugly feet it would be off-putting.

by Anonymousreply 7May 1, 2022 2:13 PM

Just in the yard or for short trips to the store. I can’t wear them for any length of time.

by Anonymousreply 8May 1, 2022 2:14 PM

I wear a pair of Tommy Hilfiger flippy-floppies erryday around the house.

by Anonymousreply 9May 1, 2022 2:15 PM

Slides have pretty much taken their place imho. Flip-flops leave your feet too unprotected, you can slip/wipe out too easily, they chafe at that spot between your toes. Terrible design, terrible name. Strange they were so popular for so long actually.

by Anonymousreply 10May 1, 2022 2:20 PM

These are my summer go-tos now.

You're going to summon the Flip Flop Troll® OP

They're going to hiss about how men who wear flip flops are "Ghastly! Trash! Cunts!" and how no one over 30 should wear shorts or flip flops ever.

Over and over and over again.

by Anonymousreply 12May 1, 2022 2:28 PM

Im in Florida as well, I wish white guys wouldn't wear them so, so much. They look hot on guys with nice big feet, in appropriate settings. However old guys with ugly crusty feet in flip flops are so ubiquitous it cancels the hot ones out.

Learn to focus your attention on the hot guys r13, you sniveling whiner

by Anonymousreply 15May 1, 2022 2:42 PM

I really hope someone invents a new sandal. I don't want to look like a gladiator, a spring breaker or a mountain climber (those awful rubber things don't belong on a city street). Seems like an easy challenge.

by Anonymousreply 16May 1, 2022 2:47 PM

Does anyone still wear...a hat?

by Anonymousreply 17May 1, 2022 2:47 PM

Shut it 15. As a Floridian Im entitled to complain as much as I want. Imagine not being able to leave the house without seeing geriatric feet with crusty heels and discolored toenails on full display in flip flops.

by Anonymousreply 18May 1, 2022 2:52 PM

I hate when someone holds a gun to my head and forces me to stare at old people's feet.

by Anonymousreply 19May 1, 2022 2:55 PM

I will never understand this. Just avert your gaze.

by Anonymousreply 20May 1, 2022 3:00 PM

I noticed one thing gay and straight men have in common is their obsession with feet. I never heard of straight or gay women being aroused by feet. Many straight women tell me they love big hands, shoulders and triceps on a guy though.

by Anonymousreply 21May 1, 2022 3:03 PM

I live in Berkeley, CA and there is a law here that you must own (and wear) at least one pair of old flip-flops.

by Anonymousreply 22May 1, 2022 3:08 PM

R10 Yeah but you wear slides with high socks!

Sandals / flip-flops on men are disgusting!

And yes it’s totally cultural. I’m half black, I’m from the city. Black American men don’t wear sandals or flip-flops, they were slides with high socks at the most. And same for urban white guys, flip-flops and sandals are frowned upon.

I remember when I took my DNA test and got Nigerian, I told my father “now you can wear sandals!”.

From my view, it’s rude and disrespectful for a man to walk around exposing his ugly feet. I work in the beauty industry, women groom their feet! Men have never heard of Pumi Bars and exfoliating peels and women also put some polish on their toes.

When a guy walks in somewhere and I have to look at his ugly ass feet, it’s all I can see and it’s disgusting.

And I’m in Massachusetts, the beaches are cold and the streets are concrete and brick. Cover them up and stop making everyone sick!

Oh, r20! That's because old men's feet is all we see in Orlando!

by Anonymousreply 24May 1, 2022 3:08 PM

Flip-flops should only be worn in the gym shower or within walking distance of the beach.

by Anonymousreply 25May 1, 2022 3:12 PM

Only at the beach/pool. Slides with socks in the house. I hate all sandals on men.

by Anonymousreply 26May 1, 2022 3:12 PM

r23 But, you didn't tell us what the other half is...

by Anonymousreply 27May 1, 2022 3:12 PM

No, you're very middle class attempting to be a snob.

by Anonymousreply 28May 1, 2022 3:12 PM

by Anonymousreply 31May 1, 2022 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 32May 1, 2022 3:24 PM

YouTube has so many videos of those crappy MTV and VH1 reality shows I'll watch out of nostalgia and every white guy featured was sporting cargo shorts and flip-flops. The gays of Next and Room Raiders were the worst offenders.

by Anonymousreply 33May 1, 2022 3:25 PM

Well now, isn't this lovely for Sunday morning conversation. No lovely feet like that in my sight.

by Anonymousreply 34May 1, 2022 3:26 PM

I hate looking at people's ears.

Grow your hair out and cover that shit up.

No one wants to see your ugly ass ears!

by Anonymousreply 35May 1, 2022 3:27 PM

News flash ancient geezer at r33: Y2K style is in right now with the kids

Baggy jeans, cargo pants, flip flops are all being worn by the young and full of cum guys that you wizened old corpses lust after

by Anonymousreply 36May 1, 2022 3:28 PM

That photo R30 is so fucking sexy. I love seeing men in flip flops, slides make me puke

by Anonymousreply 37May 1, 2022 3:34 PM

R36 Geezer? I said I was watching it out of nostalgia, so I was a teenager during that period. 2000s fashion was ugly and I say that as a survivor of that era of youth fashion.

by Anonymousreply 38May 1, 2022 3:35 PM

I had a pair in 1977. Dark magenta velour-ish fabric on top, bamboo soles. I couldn't stand the thing between my toes. One day I kicked them off into a closet and never looked at them again until I moved out of that apartment. Now I'm old, and would not subject the general public to my no longer lovely feet.

by Anonymousreply 39May 1, 2022 3:35 PM

"[R10] Yeah but you wear slides with high socks!"

I do? That's news to me.

by Anonymousreply 40May 1, 2022 3:38 PM

[quote] Baggy jeans, cargo pants, flip flops are all being worn by the young and full of cum guys that you wizened old corpses lust after

OK where? I see more late 1980s influence among white Gen Z like MC Hammer pants, crop tops, fades, curly perms, mullets, boots and dangle earrings. Kpop ripped a lot of its aesthetic from New Jack Swing style of New Edition, New Kids on the Block and Janet Jackson. Trap and Soundcloud rap style of Black Gen Z involves a lot of braids, dreads, hair dye, skinny ripped jeans, sneakers, hoodies, plaid shirts, etc.

That early 2000s California look (cargo pants, flip-flops, graphic tees) is too conservative nowadays.

by Anonymousreply 41May 1, 2022 3:42 PM

Thank you r24. You will see 100 seniors in flops before you see 1 hot guy with his feet out. And young black and latino guys rarely wear flip flops in public, unless they are at a beach

by Anonymousreply 42May 1, 2022 3:43 PM

As a foot fetishist I love flip flops.

by Anonymousreply 43May 1, 2022 3:45 PM

r37 I was thinking the very same thing. I have enlarged r30's photos on my screen while making breakfast. Ha! Ha! Almost seemed like a naughty morning after with the pool boy!

by Anonymousreply 44May 1, 2022 3:50 PM

[quote] r38 R36 Geezer? I said I was watching it out of nostalgia, so I was a teenager during that period. 2000s fashion was ugly and I say that as a survivor of that era of youth fashion

I agree. I live in Fl and retired only to find out that the theater job I wanted used flip flops as part of their uniform. I hated it, especially that rope between the toes. I also hated that by boss was half my age, but that's another story.

by Anonymousreply 45May 1, 2022 3:54 PM

Yep. Only shoes my feet will accept.

by Anonymousreply 46May 1, 2022 4:45 PM

I wore them as a kid but I don't understand how adults can wear them. They can't be good for your feet! Even Crocs provide more protection.

by Anonymousreply 47May 1, 2022 4:50 PM

Every day.

by Anonymousreply 48May 1, 2022 4:59 PM

Crocs should not be worn by anyone over the age of eight

by Anonymousreply 49May 1, 2022 5:03 PM

I love flip flops and also, flats (for Frauen).

But they mess up your feet if worn too long and consistently.

I ended up with plantar fasciitis one year, as a result.

Same thing with Converse. They will mess up your feet.

by Anonymousreply 50May 1, 2022 5:09 PM

I do not know why anyone over the age of 5 ever wore Crocks!

Do Birkenstock sandals count? Sorry/not sorry, I’m not giving them up.

by Anonymousreply 53May 2, 2022 11:28 AM

Does anyone still call them zoris?

by Anonymousreply 54May 2, 2022 11:49 AM

We called them thongs when I was a kid.

by Anonymousreply 55May 2, 2022 12:58 PM

Thongs

by Anonymousreply 56May 2, 2022 1:00 PM

Actually yes just yesterday sitting outside in my backyard. My feets are pretty though.

by Anonymousreply 57May 2, 2022 1:53 PM

DLrs would be no good 'Downunder'. Permanent wear in Aussie "thongs' and "jandals" in New Zealand. Best worn thru all seasons!!

by Anonymousreply 58May 2, 2022 1:59 PM

Yes.

by Anonymousreply 59May 2, 2022 2:06 PM

Flip flops are very triggering for the eldergays.

by Anonymousreply 60May 2, 2022 2:48 PM

I wear Tevas year round, but only in the house. Comfy.

by Anonymousreply 61May 2, 2022 4:35 PM

^ lesbian

by Anonymousreply 62May 3, 2022 11:45 AM

What do you wear to the beach OP? Stilettos? 👠

by Anonymousreply 63May 3, 2022 12:40 PM

R10 is right. Slides are the thing now. I have two pair, for the pool and beach only. Mine are Adidas, one pair in blue and another in black. They’re pretty sturdy. Flip flops with the thin toe divider are probably best for communal showers, but not for walking long distances. You might also wear these if you’re showering in a budget hotel, or visiting the rest room on a sleep train, things like that.

I see people wear slides with socks on airplanes, and understand that’s probably to accommodate swelling on longer flights.

But Jesus take care of your feet! Thick, yellow fungal toenails don’t belong on display. I think toe fungus is very common and comes from poor quality shoes that don’t allow enough oxygen to circulate and keep anaerobic fungus and bacteria at bay. So wash with soap and dry thoroughly.

by Anonymousreply 64May 3, 2022 1:45 PM

That’s meant to spell “sleeper train” above. Spellfucker got me.

by Anonymousreply 65May 3, 2022 1:47 PM

Flip-flops are good for morbidly obese slobs.

by Anonymousreply 66May 3, 2022 2:20 PM

R54 My Mum always called flip-flops Zoris. A Brit thing.

by Anonymousreply 67May 3, 2022 3:08 PM

I blew out one over forty years ago and I'm still hopping on one foot to the cantina for blender supplies.

by Anonymousreply 68May 3, 2022 3:26 PM

Sanuk makes the most comfortable flip flops- they have arch support and yoga mat material. I wear them year round here in Laguna. They aren't cheap though, $50-60.

by Anonymousreply 69May 3, 2022 5:44 PM

[quote]Flip flops with the thin toe divider are probably best for communal showers, but not for walking long distances.

Flip flops are my "running out to pick up take out/going to the convenience store" shoes. I also find that they're not ideal for walking long distances, but just for quick errands.

by Anonymousreply 70May 3, 2022 9:20 PM

I do, female, but I live in Southern CA and lots of people wear them year round here. I don't have painted toes but I keep up my feet mostly. No nasty corns, calluses or hairs.

by Anonymousreply 71May 3, 2022 9:27 PM

[quote] I love seeing men in flip flops, slides make me puke

Yes, R37!!! This X 1,000. I detest slides. And, slides with socks is an abomination.

by Anonymousreply 72May 3, 2022 9:31 PM

I would rather see crocs than flip flops, slides or sandals. As others have said they are acceptable in the gym shower and that’s about it for me.

Too few people have pretty enough feet for me.

by Anonymousreply 73May 3, 2022 9:40 PM

It’s dangerous to drive wearing flip flops.

by Anonymousreply 74May 3, 2022 10:39 PM

Only trash birds.

by Anonymousreply 75May 4, 2022 7:35 AM

I wear my slides as sandals, everywhere, BEARFOOT. Why the hell would you put socks on in the summer when it's hot and warm outside? How does that make any sense?

by Anonymousreply 76May 4, 2022 8:07 AM

every fucking day of the year. I had to rehearse wearing shoes for an evening before going to my great aunts funeral.

by Anonymousreply 77May 4, 2022 8:21 AM

I like to hike and more than once I’ve seen people (usually younger females) wearing flip flops on the trails.

I’m amazed their feet survive.

by Anonymousreply 78May 4, 2022 9:01 AM

[quote]I wear my slides as sandals, everywhere, BEARFOOT

BEARKING: r76 you are trash hunny! People who wear flip-flops and slides EVERYWHERE are trash. End of.

by Anonymousreply 79May 5, 2022 1:23 AM

What's wrong with all of you? Don't you go for pedicures in the summer??

by Anonymousreply 80May 5, 2022 1:33 AM

I like toe jam.
