Jacob was born in the summer of '97. I wonder if George of the Jungle or Dudley Do-Right was one of those videos he always watched as a tot (like George was for my brother).

I always liked Brendan Fraser. He always came across as a decent guy and gave a solid performance in movies like the Mummy and Gods and Monsters.

But, "last great movie star" seems a bit of an excessive take.

I think Jennifer Lawrence was the last great movie star.

Up to that point, her accomplishments were: WINTER'S BONE (indie hit, Oscar nomination), THE HUNGER GAMES (blockbuster), SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK (smash hit, Oscar win). And she was only 23. By the end of 2013, she had THE HUNGER GAMES sequel CATCHING FIRE, and AMERICAN HUSTLE. Both were big hits and she scored a third Oscar nod for the latter. Afterward, she continued to have THE HUNGER GAMES franchise, as well as joining the X-MEN franchise, and received a fourth Oscar nomination for JOY.

For the record, Brendan Fraser never made the list, even in the late '90s/early 2000s when his career was hot.

J Law was not a great movie star because it didn’t last long enough to be considered great. Within 2/3 years it died. That’s not great.

R19 But Jennifer Lawrence became a movie star in the 2010s, when movie stardom was on the decline, so it's impressive that she accomplished all that she did when none of her peers (male or female) were able to. (Saoirse Ronan also received multiple Oscar nominations last decade, but she was never a box office draw .) Who knows how long her movie star status would have lasted if she had broken out a decade or two earlier.

Leonardo DiCaprio is the last great movie star, and I say that as someone who hasn't seen him in anything since "Titanic." There's an excitement around his name and his projects that none of his contemporaries, successors or even precursors have.

Let’s unpack this. Jacob grew up with Brendan’s family movies. He’sa fan who still loves those memories. Most evaluations of greatness are subjective. Jacob is being honest. I would let his statement stand. For in my subjective view, Fraser is a natural and comes across like Keanu, likable and comfortable in his own skin. .
