What the fuck happened Seasons 8 and 9 of Roseanne?

Rosanne Barr went totally insane and had too much control.

I pretend that the last season never happened. You kind of have to disregard the finale as canon if you watch the reboot!

As crazy as Tom Arnold and Roseanne were together, he actually was around when the show was at its absolute best. I think he did help the show become the greatest it could be.

When they split, Roseanne became even more hardened, the show became anti-men, the characters became nastier, Jackie became unhinged and Goodman wanted out.

Was Goodman shooting something else during season 8 when he had the beard?

Just had an episode on my tv and had to shut it off …it was Roseanne and Dan screaming at each other through the whole episode. Not just unpleasant, it was maddening. Roseanne was screaming at Dan about his weight, his 1969ks “if it feels good, do it” philosophy, how they would’ve lost the house without her working for all these years. I wondered if it was Roseanne acting out her anger at John Goodman. No wonder Goodman wanted out.

Totally agree about the Tom Arnold years. That was when the show was at its best.

Part of it was Roseanne was desperate to buy the rights to produce an American version of AbFab and break into new territory. The show's kids were getting tired of their roles and didn't care for where former writers wanted to take them... and everyone had clashes with execs. Which is par the course for a Carsey-Werner production..

But many other shows imploded by jumping the shark around the same time... give or take a few years.

We could blame more of that as the fall of Hollywood in not being able to predict what people wanted, the various strikes spread throughout the industry and the overpaying actors per episode.. which thus far has proven, they're motivated to work for less and less motivated to work when earning more.

You can see the same kind of fallout happening with streaming services now as more networks go independent, originating services crumble and more adopt tv practices onto streaming... creating shit product with financial bloat. Or maybe I'm just bitter with the number of series that consider 6 episodes a full a season or even break up that number weeks to months apart... it was bad enough most of them started moving to once a week rather than releasing all at once so one can binge when they weren't so busy.
