I didn't hate it. I just think that Ron camped it up and made it too broad. Jim Reilly's original story was just a new twist on DID, but ultimately about the power of love, redemption and obsession. Marlena had an affair with the love of her life and blew her family up. That was the gas. Stefano's obsession with Marlena was the spark. Enter the devil.

People at the time laughed and made fun of it, but they didn't look at what the core of the story was about. Plus back in 94/95, the show was #2 and had a huge budget and could afford special effects and nice sets and actors could go over their guarantees.

Ron's possession story was an opportunity for everyone to camp it up and for people to say bitchy one-liners. Plus he brought in this Rosemary's Baby element that I found boring. The story was okay, but it lacked the layers of what made the first possession such a good story.

I have not watched a soap regularly in decades. I caught Beyond Salem and enjoyed it, so I've taken up the daily show. It has taken me a long time to sort out the cast and am enjoying it. I don't mind the devil storyline at all - it is no worse than any other dreck out there. And it has also pulled me away from multiple blocks of time glued to MSNBC.

The way the story has been written, there's no logical reason for there to be any issues due to Will and Sonny long-distance separation. .. Will is a writer. He can do that anywhere (as they just showed in the Christmas movie). The couple only relocated to Phoenix because of Sonny's project with his brothers. If Sonny's eager to change that with a move back to Salem, then that should actually be a positive thing for Will, since most of his family is still there, as well as Ari's mother, Gabi. Hallelujah, let her take care of Ari for a change.
