I still can't figure out why he quit so easily. I thought he was a fantastic senator. On the newest episode of his podcast, he spends about 10 minutes on what he would have said at the Judge Jackson hearings and it's pretty good stuff! Then I get angry all over again at him. HE DIDN"T HAVE TO QUIT!
Can We Talk About Al Franken?

If he was a repig, he would still be in office. Two sets of rules

I think it was the very height of the whole me too thing and he was pressured by members of his own party (especially cunt Kirsten Gillibrand) to resign. At the time I think it seemed and felt to him like he had no choice. I agree that had he waited it out it might have died down. Certainly now the whole me too thing is more sane and balanced but at that particular moment it was like a feeding frenzy.

Like the blowhard he is, Al "Handsy" Franken called for an investigation into his eight accusers then immediately resigned and ran out of town as fast as he could before all the other women he grabbed, groped and kissed could step forward.
Blaming anyone other than Al Franken for this is pure misogyny, don't fucking kid yourselves. If you haven't done anything wrong, you don't quit your job and vamoose!

He should run again.

Let’s talk about Cuomo - who now has been effectively cleared, aka not charged. I think he should have ridden it out. Why should we let Trump be elected and eliminate effective, Dems for doing less/nothing.

R3 never met a man she thought wasn't a pervert. He quit because Gillibrand and others were not going to let this go. They were triggered by a rightwing activist, and don't even start with the 'but there were others.". It was going to be enough of a disruption that it would affect legislation and the next election, so he used his best political judgment for the democratic party. He was elected by Minnesotans who continued to support him, was charged with nothing, but screeching loonies did the far right's job for it. They shoved him out the door before any investigation could even be started.
I am a female and the same age as Al Franken. I've had men who got handsy with me and had friends who went through it as well. Rather than acting like we were completely unable to behave as functioning adults, we let them know clearly we weren't interested and they stopped. I am really tired of this constant victim mentality followed by the lynch mob for anyone who has a finger pointed at them. I am also really tired of a complete inability to distinguish severe events like Donald Trump's rape of E Jean Carroll and someone placing an unwelcome hand on another. That is an insult to the women who are attacked and serves no one well.

I saw Gillibrand upstate awhile back and as she smiled at me, I raised my middle finger and said, "That's for Franken."

Gillibrand = useless cunt.

THis. Never. Happened.

Even his former coworker and noted rwnj, Victoria Jackson stood up for him.

The Dems needed the Jew scapegoat to reiterate their "political purity". Franken was it. And it's one of the reasons why I'll NEVER, EVER vote for the Dems.

In what universe does that even make sense? I know every misogynist keeps saying it, but Senators can't cancel each other, there is no mechanism for ANY Senator to nag a fellow Senator out of the body. So there's that. Plus I believe over thirty of the other Democrats noted they felt the same way, but only ONE white woman is blamed for Franken's behavior! Face it, you're a misogynist! Kirsten Gillabrand didn't grope or assault anyone, weird, huh?
Do you ever try to play chess and wonder why? Did you ever think Franken may have been inappropriate with Gillibrand, or anyone else working in the Senate and his behavior was a well known issue? Try thinking like a smart person!

Except it wasn't. Him resigning wouldn't stop the tidal wave of accusations that would've occurred had he actually been a scumbag.

R12: lame ass social justice warrior. Every fucking body, including her old man, is a misogynist. So damn old, so damn tired.
But at least she and her fellow SJWs will get their just desserts when SCOTUS rules abortion is illegal. See, while she and her fellow band of SJW's were busy attacking Democrats for being misogynists, the real misogynists, the Republicans were actually busy putting the screws to women.
So much easier to go after low hanging fruit like Franken and Cuomo than do some actual work like take on the Republicans and Christian Right Wing.

r14, you make no sense at all.
I've been a pro-choice Democrat my whole life and haven't missed a single election including primary elections since my first vote in 1980. I see the true terrorists, AOC, Bernie and the "Justice Democrats" and Reagan-voting shit-stirrers like Elizabeth Warren, who is out to destroy President Biden for not enacting HER agenda, as the third-place finisher in her own home state's primary election!
Al Franken's seat has been filled by non-groping Senator Tina Smith, who has been doing a great job, and without the misconduct! Franken's craven resignation never changed the balance of the Senate.
