I grew up listening to “If Only You Knew” and “Somebody Loves You” on classic soul radio, though neither charted on the Hot 100. Young adult me learned to love “On My Own” and “If You Asked Me To” from James Bond haha.

My bad, just saw that “Somebody Loves You” is 1991. But “If Only You Knew” was 1983 at least, so that’s legal for this thread haha.

"Other"...LOL

"Hits" is a strong word.
Not a synonym for "recordings that made the "Hot R&B Billboard 1500 for a week.

On My Own is a great song. Great video too, with Patti strutting across the Brooklyn Bridge in a mink coat, all heartbroken and shit.
It was a surprise #1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 in '86.

Yeah, what the hell. On My Own (w/Michael McDonald) should have been on the poll.
If You Asked Me To was a huger hit for Celine Dion.

And Patti was royally pissed over that!

Agree w/ r13, this poll is void without On My Own. Not just because it's my favorite, but also because it was the most commercially successful single in both Patti and Michael McDonald's careers.
If Only You Knew (1983) only had moderate success back then in the early 80s, but is now one of her signature songs.

She was no Aretha or Tina or even Annie Lenox! Patti was interesting as part of LaBelle or whatever the name of that group was.

Patti is one of the best

r18 Patti is in her own lane, dont come on here with that bullshit!
Patti is also making a mint off her desserts selling across America for the last few years. So many entertainers have struggled to brand and have food products in stores, she found a niche and did it with great success.

R20’s sassy response made me giggle.

I'm surprised to see Stir It Up is third. I have this song as my favorite.
