IRONY = Kim needs Pete Davidson way more than Pete Davidson needs Kim.

Comcast’s NBCUniversal holds a minority stake in Hulu. Pete was brought in to make Kim more interesting.

Lizzo is so damn likable. Since I don't want to fuck her, her weight doesn't bother me. Still, I do wish she she'd lose it just for her own health.

But neither song really worked for me.

Lizzo was pretty good in the sketches. Perhaps she can transfer to acting.

Queen Latifah did and she's doing well. When Latifah started as a rapper I had no idea she could actually sing, then she went on to a successful TV series, "Living Single", then several films and she was nominated for an Emmy for her portrayal of Bessie Smith in that HBO film. Now she's in the CBS re-boot of "The Equalizer".

The AV Club reviewer was not happy.

She was stronger performing her songs, lip synched or not. She has energy and some personality, but she sucked in the skits—breaking character, reading her lines instead of acting them out.

As for Lorne, he is a one-man studio; if you are working on a project for him, he'll hold your place on SNL.

More sketches like Beanie Babies…I love when SNL gets stupid/absurd. I fucking love Lizzo and thought she was great. She has such Star Power.

I also thought Melissa’s WU bit was fun. Was she the grandpa in the Six Flags sketch? I couldn’t tell if it was here or Sarah Sherman.

All in all, one of the more enjoyable episodes this season.

R143, yes, Lorne produced Aidy's show "Shrill" on Peacock.

Now that "Shrill" has ended, Lorne is producing Aidy's new show "Cheeky" for Peacock.

It used to be that Lorne hired really talented people and let them go if they didn't pop. Especially Molly, Cheri, Jan, Nora. Now he is hiring moderately talented people and BUILDING THEIR BRANDS.

R146, those cast members stayed on the show until their contracts expired and then they left because that's the way SNL worked at the time. It had nothing to do with them not "popping". The cast members you named were all relatively successful SNLers. The cast members who didn't work out got let go either before or after their 1st season ended. Like Sara Silverman.

The SNL business model has changed because Hollywood has changed. Lorne used to produce a lot of the movies that SNLers did but Hollywood isn't making those types of movies anymore. So now streaming is the big thing and Lorne is producing those projects for SNLers. And as you say he is helping them to build their brands.

I think streaming has been a benefit to the female cast members as they get more opportunities now. Most of them never headlined movies.

I want to see Lizzo eat the singing meatballs.

The orchestra skit was funny. There have to be writers who read DL. We just had a thread about Beanie Babies and how people thought they would be worth a fortune but are not.

The Six Flags sketch was just bizarre. Spoofing a 20-year-old commercial for an amusement park chain?

I really didn’t like this episode, but then I really didn’t like the hostess which probably didn’t help. Listening to her squawk about how wonderful she is in her monologue was a huge turnoff.

The game show was brilliant in a rather dreary go-to genera for SNL.

Surprised no one mentioned the scene in the beanie baby sketch where Andrew bent over and started talking with his ass.

Guess it would've been better if he wasn't wearing pants.

If they ever do a big-screen remake of Gilligan's Island, Andrew Dismukes would be perfect in the title role (and no, that's not meant as an insult).

Other than Mikey Day, none of the men on this cast should take off their shirts.

R84 That describes 90 percent of people in elite media. Everyone assumes because they went to Harvard or Yale or whatever that they're liberals but that's simply not true.

Lizzo was game and quite charming but the writing was horrible. SNL has too many writers who are stuck in the past. The plethora of absurd 80s style game show sketches they regularly air is one symptom of this problem. I mean, who even thinks about the six flags guy or black eyed peas anymore? It's like some of the posters here who have a set reference year for pop culture, be it 1970 or 1990 or whatever, and can't move past it. Michael Che sucks. Melissa villesenor brings nothing to the table. Chris Redd and Mikey Day have grown on me though. Alex Moffatt is pretty funny too.

This episode got a horrible review on AV Club. But they were clearly a Lizzo fan, because she was excused for everything and the writer blamed everything on the SNL writers.
