David Arquette for next year’s Best Supporting Actor Oscar

I know it’s just Scream 2022, but I’m watching it now and he is worthy. He’s more worthy than Frances in Nowheresville, that’s for sure.

His performance is heartbreaking

Is this a joke? He was fine. But the movie was the absolute death knell of the series.

Not a joke. The movie sucked. He elevated it, as one of the characters in the movie said. He was excellent even if it was a bad movie. There can be a great performance in a bad movie, you know.

I should have waited to post. I was about half way through the movie when I posted. I thought I had the twist figured out. I thought Dept. Dewey was going to turn out to be the new Ghostface due to years of Ptsd, depression, alcoholism, etc. THAT’S what the twist should have been and that would have been a great performance. The ending in the actual movie is very different, pretty stupid, and doesn’t make much sense at all. Mea culpa. I was very wrong on this one.

He was very good in the film and certainly more worthy than Jamie Lee Curtis was when she was getting Oscar talk on her for that awful Halloween movie a few years ago, but this isn't the kind of movie the Oscars would care about. If Toni Collette couldn't get one for Hereditary, I doubt they'd want to award any performance in a Scream movie. It's sad, too, because David, Courtney, and Neve have created really iconic and likable characters in that series and that's hard to do in a horror movie. They make it look effortless. People will probably remember their performances and films more than whatever does end up getting nominated this year.

He looks for his age imo

OP, FU. Ain't gonna happen.

by Anonymousreply 7May 7, 2022 11:47 PM

Toni , Jamie Lee & David A didn’t deserve award attention. Stop being silly.

He's cute as hell. I guess his drug issues may have prevented him from having more of a film career because he has charisma.

I thought he was great in this, too, OP. On the other hand, as much as I like Courtney and Neve, I thought they both phoned it in for this installment. Neve in particular looks over it. But Arquette brought sadness and weariness to the role.

He started out acting on two movie spin-offs that lasted a season: Parenthood in 1990 (with Leonardo DiCaprio) and The Outsiders (also in 1990). I think it's sweet how he was such a good friend to Rodney Harvey and kept in contact even after Rodney's spiral into drugs and leaving Hollywood.

Who is Rodney Harvey???

by Anonymousreply 12May 8, 2022 1:34 AM

R12 A beautiful male actor and model who was featured in Paul Morrissey's 80s film catalog, he also did photoshoots with Madonna, starred in the short-lived Outsiders TV show (with David), played a supporting role in My Own Private Idaho and his career fell off because he developed a nasty heroin addiction and overdosed in 1998. His autopsy photos were used in a controversial drug PSA.
