Even though she gets dragged here a lot, Barbra seems like she was a good mother and probably did it to make up for the fact that her own mother was very unsupportive. She and James Brolin have been together for about 25 years now which is like 100 years in Hollywood time. I have a feeling this is why a lot of her professional work has suffered, because she was no longer using her work for personal fulfillment once she had a stable family unit. It happens a lot. People are young and unsupported by their family and peers and get into the business to prove something and maybe try to make their fans their family to compensate.
