She looks really, really young. Even with skin that is on the darker side, I’m surprised she looks this young. She is too old to have been really careful about sunscreen in her youth, people were still tanning in the 1980’s. But maybe she didn’t spend a ton of time outside.

I’m little older than her, with a much fairer complexion. I look my age (but no older) and I look about 15-20 years older than her.

Oddly, a coarsening/thickening of her nose is the most notable aging. But it’s only noticeably compared to younger photos. That usually happens later than 50.

Of course that's not her original nose; she had extensive surgery when she was still young (before she became big), and she assuredly reworks every image you see of her, especially the "candid" ones (or has an assistant do it).

She has aged well, due not only to good surgery but also to fierce discipline (apparently she hardly eats, for example), and in the latter sense she's like Madonna.

Let's see if she eventually goes off the deep plastic surgery end like Madge too.

I agree I never found her beautiful or liked her music but she’s aged well. Most women are much uglier without makeup. She has so cheekbones or anything though. Her face is very flat.

She looks like any other light-skinned Puerto Rican from the tristate area. Definitely attractive but not this great exotic beauty. She also is not that brown without the sunless tanner and she never had big lips. She plays up her exoticness for money.

Looking Latino to white people is very easy apparently. I have a sister with a huge ass who always gets mistaken for a Latina. Even by some non whites. We are 100% scotch Irish.

I never considered Jennifer Lopez to be a woman of color. She looks Mediterranean and just as "exotic" as Catherine Zeta Jones or Shania Twain. Her eyes and cheekbones are the only features that I think makes her look mixed with Native American.

She looks amazing. Whatever work she's had done or is doing, she's been very smart to keep it subtle. It's funny because she's so over-the-top ridiculous about everything, but when it comes to her skin she's judicious.

I Lo was always one of the less attractive stars. She’s not ugly but there’s nothing great about her she’s just very blah. I kind of wonder if people like her because she’s so unremarkable.

Her lack of talent doesn't bother me. It's her general nasty, unpleasant and histrionic personality that is very obvious. Once her looks completely fade, she will become like Madonna. Their personalities are basically identical.

I find it interesting that she was with a few non-famous men like Cris Judd and Ojani Noa. Were they rebounds like Marc Anthony? Ojani is by far the hottest man she had.

J Lo did a good job in the movie portraying Selena mainly thanks to the excellent makeup, wardrobe and J. Lo had a similar body type. But facially they look very different especially without makeup on. Selena was very Indigenous looking: round face, brown skin, shiny jet-black hair, almond eyes, full luscious lips and a curvy figure. J. Lo is surprisingly quite pale and always had tiny lips and her face is much more narrow and sharper and she is more European in looks. I can understand why in Hollywood, nobody cared since the execs would see Latinos (well brown people) are interchangeable. But Mexicans who are proud of their culture would be offended by the casting. Today, it would not fly because more people are aware of the cultural differences. Lou Diamond Philips who is Eurasian yet typecast as Hispanics and Native Americans acknowledged this.

R52 There was indeed controversy back then that a Puerto Rican had been cast as Mexican-American Selena. People were upset about it. I remember it quite well. I guess the Mexican-American community eventually warned to Jennifer's portrayal, but it wasn't immediate.

She doesn't look too bad. During the pandemic you really got to see which stars were natural beauties and who really relied on make up, Scarlett Johannson being one who I was surprised how rough she looked w/o any. What you can see without the makeup on JLO is the work she has had done. I can spot a nose job a mile away. It looks like she had hers done awhile ago - the shape, the little nub at the end reminds me of girls in HS who had them done in the early aughts.

Jennifer is more tolerable as an actress. She seemed to be headed towards acclaim with U-Turn, Anaconda, Selena, Out of Sight and The Cell. I think her attempts at singing and exploiting her relationships with Ben and Diddy. Made the public get tired of her. She was completely overexposed. When she got with Marc Anthony, she sorta retreated and attempted to be taken more seriously likely under his influence. Once she got with A-Rod, she went attention whore again and isn't slowing down. The Ben reunion is getting her attention. She's now overexposed again and she's still very tone-deaf and problematic (calling herself "negrita", bitching about not being able to buy The Mets during a pandemic and civil unrest, etc). There has been so many attempts to cancel her but all have failed. Everything has been exposed about her team stealing from Mariah and using demo singers on her official released albums. She's been cancel-proof.

Yup, her foray into pop music definitely hurt any acting credibility she had at the time. Her entertainment empire has made her fabulously wealthy no doubt, but she wants respect as a serious artist and that is something that has evaded her since she transformed from Jennifer Lopez to JLO the superstar. She made her choices and set her path, but if she had focused solely on her acting career, she could have honed her craft and delivered on much of her early promise.

None of what R64 says is true. She may want critical acclaim, but she's not pressed for it. And even after she was a pop star, she was never raked over the coals as an actress - no one thought she was suddenly awful - even if she didn't get high level critical acclaim. JLO loved being a pop star and didn't fret that being one would effect her image as as actress.

Why then is she so greasy and blurry? She will always be the cheap and spicey, "Taco Flavored Kisses" one.

J Lo is a jack of all trades. She's an entertainer in the classic sense of the word. She's an atrocious singer, an okay actress and an excellent dancer. She excels in being a personality and socialite. She is charismatic and lights up the stage She'll never be respected as an artist because she isn't one. Madonna got lucky but she's not respected anymore. Beyonce and Gaga are in the same boat, trying too hard to be seen as artists and will go the way of Madonna in losing respect if they keep the attention seeking.

Rihanna should be a DL icon because she threw in towel and decided to become start a fashion and makeup business. She's making more money from that than her music and acting.
