Assuming you're not a celebrity yourself?
How celebrity-adjacent are you?

Not even remotely, especially when it comes to actual celebrities
I'm a complete nonentity, and I like it that way

Assuming you're not a celebrity yourself.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | April 7, 2022 5:59 PM |
Not a celebrity myself, but I have worked with some very famous names. I guess I'm about as adjacent as you can get. And I want to stay that way, so I'm not naming any names...
by Anonymous | reply 3 | April 7, 2022 6:04 PM |
Acquainted with some / good friends with people who know several - so about 1 degree of separation.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | April 7, 2022 6:04 PM |
The guy next door had a horse that was in a movie. I guess that she'd count as a celebrity. Elliot Page was in the same movie, back when her name was Ellen. I used to let her graze on my property. The horse, that is, not Ellen.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | April 7, 2022 6:04 PM |
One or two degrees of separation, via a long time friend who is quite wealthy, from several celebrities, mostly B list and below but one or two A listers.

I am an entertainment reporter in Los Angeles; I've met them all.
Some are nice. Some aren't. I wish I hadn't met some; I wouldn't trade meeting others for anything.
Social media has been a game changer; everyone's a reporter now. It's not the same. I won't do this much longer, I fear.

My pawnbroker boyfriend once took me to Merv Griffin's home in Trousdale Estates. .. And yes, Merv was wearing a kaftan.
While they went off to conduct some pawn business in another room, I sat at the dining room table with two shirtless rent boys. There was a third one in a tank top and short-shorts cooking out in the kitchen.
Needless to say, I felt overdressed for the occasion.

They are just people with jobs.
Many and nice, many are narcissistic and empty.
Most comedians I've ever met are nothing at all like their stage/screen personas. Many are palpably depressive and when they switch "on" it's a creepy transition and a sad one to see.

I attended the wrap party for Matt Sterling's porn classic "Spring Break."
They'd shot several of the scenes at my landlord's house. .. At that time, I lived in the guest house on the property, and while no scenes were filmed there, they'd taken over the common areas of the property, so we were all invited to the BBQ party to make up for the disruption. (This was back in the day when porn films took multiple days to film.) That final scene with the guy in the sling was filmed inside our garage, which they'd totally transformed into some kind of leather den. .. I couldn't do my laundry that day... lo!

I'm no star collector, or scene queen, but have certainly met quite a few famous people. I do have a costume designer friend who has given me some close proximity to several Hollywood figures, but that doesn't imply I've hung out with them socially. I've posted some quite harmless gossip here over the years however.
My sister once dated a former boyfriend and "almost fiancé" of Shannon Dougherty. He was a wealthy Greek heir to something or other.
My closest mate in the US was in the band The Dwarves
I've met Jada Pinkett Smith, John Mahoney, Alyssa Milano, Paloma Picasso, Lucien Freud, Ivan Boesky and his daughter, Julian Schnabel and his wife, David Hockney, and the French artist and filmmaker known as Unglee.
I've also met several more obscure pro athletes, and their WAGS.
I've also had SEVERAL female friends who have shagged innumerable rock stars over the past thirty years or so.
One of my neighbour's sons was a secret service member who guarded Geo W. I also know quite well one of his former speechwriters. She's provided me with a number of interesting takes on Laura Bush, as they got on quite well.
Growing up, I knew a girl who dated one of the band members in Cheap Trick, but I forget which one!
For a time, my costume designer friend's father managed Cheap Trick, amongst other notable bands.
I'm not really sure if this indeed qualifies as adjacent, but I think quite possibly so.

Playwright and screenwriter here, and a NYC resident for more than two decades. I know and have worked with a lot of bold-faced names. And have run into many such people randomly at functions and on the street and in the park. I'll never forget walking past Heath Ledger on 8th Avenue in midtown. The man literally glowed with charisma. What a loss.
Sex also makes strange bedfellows. I regret not taking up two offers with older gents that would have gotten me to dinners with some great people who are now gone. Ah, youth.
New Yorkers, especially Manhattanites, mostly do not realize there are celebrities in their midst almost all the time. They expect stars to be dressed to the nines and have entourages with them and paparazzi, when in truth they are likely just to be walking around like everyone else, though often with sunglasses. I wonder how much the stars liked all the masks. Let them be anonymous on the street again.

R65 that's interesting you say that because I have family in Burbank and they say that "celebrities" are around all the time as well, you just don't really recognize them because they don't look like they do on-screen. My cousin worked in voice recording (he was part of a team that would record character voices for animated films and also voice-over recordings for live-action films and commercials) and almost every time they recorded some big celebrity, they looked absolutely nothing like they do when they're in a movie or on the red-carpet. The one I remember my cousin talking about was Geena Davis. She was practically unrecognizable to him without her glam/red carpet look.
On topic, while I am not celebrity adjacent, my cousin above definitely was (he no longer works in the industry). His father (my uncle) was a producer of animated films in Burbank/Hollywood so he also had regular interactions with the celebrity crowd. My uncle always said his least favorite part of his job was interacting with famous acting talent. However, he never really got into the "glam" part of Hollywood so he was never really star struck. I've posted a lot of gossip on here that I've heard from them throughout the years.
And although I am not celebrity adjacent, I am adjacent to a number of wealthy friends from families whose names are on products and services that are widely used across the globe. So while they're not celebrities in the Hollywood way, their names are definitely celebrated commercially by the public. There's really no gossip about them though, because they're really just boring people with everyday lives; they're just financially loaded.

My godfather used to work in the music industry, and now works in the film industry. I occasionally share things that can’t be traced to him, because they’re usually pretty specific. He mostly likes to talk about producer and deals. He’s told me weeks before mass firings happen at different studios. He has been referred to as a Hollywood heavy hitter.

Barely at all.
Grew up in a house down the road from a world-famous name-brand racehorse stable & training centre, and also a world-famous brewery. A few classic 60s & 70s rockstars retired and lived out there last days in the same county, within hiking/cycling distance of where I lived.
My white Brit younger male cousin plays professional rugby for Duba! (yes they have a team, no I don’t know why), and the games he starts in are sometimes televised, so I suppose that’s a type of fame in the minds of sports fans. His father (my uncle) knows and works with many celebrities, though, as he works as a stunt coordinator in big movies shot in UAE—he’s met and driven for Tammy, Vin, Ye...
Oh, and my Arab BIL is technically some kind of Turkish royalty once-removed on his mother’s side. There’s a Crown Prince a handful of generations back in his lineage.

Years ago I read that Joan Crawford at one time lived in Lawton, Oklahoma when she was a child because her step father ran a local theater. Her former address was published so I googled it. In the early 60's our family rented a shabby house a few houses down from that said address. I remember that house very well because it had an enclosed screened front porch and seemed to me to be the nicest house on the block. It made a big impression on me even though I was only 2 - 4 years old at the time.
