What makes young guys want to go into porn?

What makes them think “instead of going to college and having a career, I’m just going to record myself getting fucked on Onlyfans and then have sex with clients for money?”

What are they going to do when they’re 30 or 40 or 50 and they can’t get a job because they are getting fucked all over the internet?

by Anonymousreply 126April 29, 2022 12:30 AM

No one will care when they’re 30 or 40 or 50.

Our society will be dead by then.

It's poor judgment probably due to a combination of the following: exhibitionism, narcissism, an addictive personality, impulsivity, poverty, attention-seeking because of low self-esteem, lack of shame, etc.

Let's face it. Porn performers don't become rich these days. This is not a long term "career" from which you can retire comfortably. How many former porn "stars" have a happy life when they're no longer young and attractive? Very few, I bet.

by Anonymousreply 2April 7, 2022 8:14 AM

Money for law school.

by Anonymousreply 3April 7, 2022 8:24 AM

I think because porn/OnlyFans, posting nudes online etc. is so prevalent these days, when these guys are in the 30s/40s and above I don't think it will be the same issue that it could be now - unless they want to go into certain professions like teaching, medicine etc. Really, it's no big deal and people should do whatever they want to and enjoy to earn money. It's a fucked up world, find your joy while you can I say.

by Anonymousreply 4April 7, 2022 10:34 AM

things have changed and no one cares. i know two professors at top tier schools that post on dirty twitter and have no shame, nor are they hiding their faces.

by Anonymousreply 5April 7, 2022 10:48 AM

Money

Fame

Exhibitionism

That's about it.

by Anonymousreply 6April 7, 2022 11:11 AM
This is not a long term "career" from which you can retire comfortably.

It never was.

by Anonymousreply 7April 7, 2022 11:12 AM

The biggest fantasy of all is that you find joy in working in porn.

by Anonymousreply 8April 7, 2022 11:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 12April 7, 2022 12:07 PM

Because they're constantly horny, and they get paid. (Though how much I don't know).

If I'd been remotely attractive I'd have done it myself.

by Anonymousreply 13April 7, 2022 12:09 PM

R13, what do you do for a living? I ask because I'm trying to understand the divide. Somebody who plans a conventional career, particularly one involving working for someone else, wouldn't take the risk, depending on the nature of their work.

by Anonymousreply 14April 7, 2022 12:11 PM

R13 - I work in the public sector (Government) in the UK.

I've never been career minded, so I don't think it would have bothered me. If I'd been happy with my body my whole life could have taken different paths. It is something I wonder about a lot. Even now, aged 50, I'm not comfortable in my own skin, and I'm resigned to never being so.

by Anonymousreply 15April 7, 2022 12:15 PM

Interesting perspective, R15. Thanks. I share the same resignation, FWIW. You make the best of it.

by Anonymousreply 16April 7, 2022 12:16 PM

In my 20s, I loved sex and rejected the notion it was in any way shameful. I could see thinking - “why not make money as a porn star”. Fortunately, that option wasn’t available - at least easily. With OnlyFans, the barrier to entry just got so low that the leap from thought to execution is short. Combined with the Pavlovian training kids have received equating social media attention with self esteem and importance, it totally makes sense.

by Anonymousreply 17April 7, 2022 12:30 PM

Those retards think they’ll find a sugar daddy and never ever have to work, which is why they’re dipshits.

Keep providing me jerk off material. No man wants to touch me so I commend these models.

by Anonymousreply 21April 7, 2022 12:41 PM

It's usually southern and Midwestern corn fed white guys looking for extra money to buy a truck or pay off a bill. They may be straight, they may be curious, but someone in porn saw them somewhere and recruited them and convinced them to do a scene for some cash and that no one back in Bug Tussle would ever see it.

I don't follow these guys, but I do read the posts of the people on here who track these guys, know their real names and real social media. And it sounds like they almost always go back to type after doing a few scenes. They marry some local girl, get into electrical or plumbing or construction and vote republican.

Also, many of you need to remember that many of the people doing this have spent their entire lives being photographed and filmed. Look at those guys on Chaturbate, they show their dick on their own terms and make some beer for it. Is it any more damning than social media?

by Anonymousreply 22April 7, 2022 12:57 PM

The funny thing about porn is people refuse to believe these guys who appear to be Boys Next Door types are often trash through and through. They tend to be dealing with serious trauma and have found validation in sex work.

Take for instance one of the more prolific gay porn models today: Chris Damned. He grew up in one of the roughest parts of Marseille, and was raised by a single mother who died from AIDS. Given his age (late 20s/early 30s), if his mother died from AIDS in the 2000s, she must’ve been a real piece of work. Anyway, despite all the content he regularly pushes out, there’s very little to indicate he’s living large in L.A.

Same applies to all the Sean Cody models during that site’s best years. Even though the guys often looked like frat boys or even runway models, most of them were white trash Floridians and Texans.

by Anonymousreply 23April 7, 2022 12:59 PM

by Anonymousreply 25April 7, 2022 1:09 PM

Clout. I noticed this among straight men and women, but gay men especially all seem to base their follow on their bodies, suggestive posts, or flat out explicit sex posts. I have seen clean cut well-meaning guys go from normal tweets, to "gay twitter" posting to full on blasting porn of themselves jerking off or fucking with strangers. And everyone seems to celebrate it. Really strange.

R28: How would you know whether I "live a little" or not? Plenty of us have our carnal fun without the need to film sexual encounters and brain farts for money and attention. This is not a black and white, either-or situation. There's a lot of middle ground between being a prude and being an exhibitionistic whore. I actually have a better opinion of whores who don't do porn: they provide a service with discretion and don't seek media platforms to display their self-absorption.

Do-it-yourself porn may be commonplace these days, but it still doesn't have society's big seal of approval. If it did, then the majority of parents would be encouraging their children to get into porn instead of into college.

by Anonymousreply 29April 9, 2022 6:16 AM
it still doesn't have society's big seal of approval

Our society is changing every month and every year. Go and hang out at a ball park or the mall and if you eavesdrop you can hear kids speaking a different language.

by Anonymousreply 30April 9, 2022 11:47 AM

^ I'm aware of what kids are saying. I have many relatives on both sides of the family.

Real progress is often slow. Overt sexuality and non-traditional gender roles are no longer taboo compared to previous decades, yet we also have plenty of U.S. politicians who want to make abortion illegal nationwide (they're succeeding in some states). They want to eliminate same-sex marriage. Fascist groups have become more vocal and influential. As history has often shown, two steps forward and one step back.

In 25 years, we'll see what happens when these kids are mature adults who wield substantial economic and political power. Until then, a good chunk of what they're doing now is trendy performative behavior for social media popularity. It's not forgotten how many of the idealistic young people in the 1960s, who spoke of peace/unity/love/equal rights, who marched in protests and were anti-establishment, developed into the greedy, materialistic, conservative Boomers by the '80s and '90s. We shall see.

by Anonymousreply 31April 9, 2022 12:40 PM

I wonder why someone like Tony Orlando would even do gay porn at all considering that he seems to be into women and especially trans women and supposedly was once offended when a gay guy asked him out on a date.

by Anonymousreply 32April 11, 2022 9:32 AM

Trans “woman” don’t exist r32

If it has a dick, it’s a man and Tony Orlando is just a coward

Tony Orlando is gay, because he likes to have sex with men in makeup and a ratty wig

by Anonymousreply 35April 11, 2022 10:14 AM

My guess is it’s easy money for a days worth of work and it’s probably fun.

I remember reading something on Reddit about a guy’s first porn scene. He said the entire experience was pretty laidback, the girl was hot and easy to work with, the scene was done in about forty-five minutes because after choreographing it the director just let them go at it, and once it was done, he was like, “oh, I just shot a porno.”

He said if you understand it’s a performance that’s meant to look good, it’s easier to do. He also said the director told him most good performers either know how to completely ignore the camera and people around or they get off on being watched. Apparently he’s been posting sex vids of himself online before going into porn so it wasn’t hard for him to be watched.

by Anonymousreply 36April 11, 2022 10:32 AM
In 25 years, we'll see what happens when these kids are mature adults who wield substantial economic and political power

R31, spare us. These THINGS that spread eagle themselves with jeweled buttplugs winking at the camera don’t have what it takes to make it.

All they want is a sugar daddy and they’re too stupid to see beyond that. They’re doomed to fail.

The jealousy by clueless sexless ancient fatties on this thread is delicious

by Anonymousreply 40April 11, 2022 1:34 PM

I go back and forth on this. I think that porn is still very much a career of last resort or a career when you're out of options and the rent is due, but at the same time I don't think it carries the stigma that it did in the past or the stigma that some DLers want it to. I mean, many DLers would have been shouting burn the witch back in Salem and outside of Anne Frank's house yelling, she's in the attic.

A lot of your neighbors' kids are on Chaturbate right now showing their goods for tokens. Your primary care physician and your CPA are currently thirst-trapping on Instagram. You can't put this genie back in the bottle.

by Anonymousreply 41April 11, 2022 1:39 PM

R41

That may be the case, and I'm sure to get trashed by DL for my age, but if I found that my primary care physician was thirst trapping on Instagram, I'd change doctors. Maybe even change my CPA.

The world may be changing but I don't think that the concept of professionalism has to change. And in the case of a doctor, I'd question his abilities, his choices, and what his ego says about him as a person.

by Anonymousreply 49April 11, 2022 5:42 PM

Even before Onlyfans became a thing, there were many that seemed to think doing porn would help them break into mainstream entertainment. That they'd go from getting gang-banged on camera to becoming famous actors or models, get their own reality show or make it as fashion designers.

One thing I've noticed is that many porn performers don't seem to give a shit if people know their real names. They're on their porn twitter inviting people over to their private Facebook account, or even go back to using their real name while still doing porn (see Lane Rogers aka Blake Mitchell). My favorite performer even posted his first few scenes under his real name, and bragged about being "google famous" (not gonna say who it is because he probably regrets it now).

I blame the Kardashians for this shit.

by Anonymousreply 50April 11, 2022 5:56 PM

The rage filled flaccid dicked Methuselah at r49 is on the verge of having a stroke

Good

No one will miss him

by Anonymousreply 51April 11, 2022 6:15 PM

R50, you’re referring to the exceptions, not the rule. While there are people like Dante Colle or Blake Mitchell who don’t mind their names being out there, the majority still go through great lengths to keep their regular and porn lives separate. If the current SeanCody and Corbin Fischer models are like their predecessors, they might try to pass off some of their G-rates shots from porn shoots as professional modeling gigs, but they would never link or refer to their porn work. Joey from SC used to do that, but he eventually went so far as to change his name when he walked away from porn after several years.

You do raise a valid point though…a lot of these guys have their portfolios posted on modeling and talent sites before their recruited to do porn. Meanwhile, the porn recruiters aren’t lying when they say they have connections in the entertainment industry. However, they gloss over the fact the actors, directors, and casting agents are more likely to be clients than merely having an interest in new faces for legit products.

GayHoopla touts the fact they have a working relationship with people at Netflix, HBO, Hulu and other companies. A whole one single model had a brief scene in Euphoria, sure, but nobody on their roster has ever done anything substantial in non-porn entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 52April 11, 2022 6:25 PM

I often wonder if they want to be legitimate actors, like Blake, or if the main goal isn't just to be an influencer. An influencer with lots of followers seems to be the golden path these days, unless I've misread something.

by Anonymousreply 53April 11, 2022 6:48 PM
Money for law school.—Brandon

I hear you!

by Anonymousreply 54April 11, 2022 6:51 PM

R52, I guess our taste in porn actors is very different. I'm not that familiar with Sean Cody/Corbin Fisher as I'm not into the "corn-fed regular guy" type, but from what I understand, their performers are usually straight in real life (or at least pretend to be).

Most of the ones I follow are openly gay or at least bi, often on the femme side. And in that demographic I've noticed that trend of people not really keeping their porn/regular life separate, and trying to channel their porn "fame" into careers in non-porn entertainment or fashion.

by Anonymousreply 55April 11, 2022 6:58 PM

R53, most of these types probably don't even care if they "make it" as an actor, model or influencer as long as they get media attention (and money, of course).

by Anonymousreply 56April 11, 2022 7:01 PM
a lot of these guys have their portfolios posted on modeling and talent sites before their recruited to do porn

I've long suspected that porn recruiters trawl websites like modelmayhem for fresh new "talent". I've seen quite a few guys on that site that I know from porn, and the accounts were usually set up before they first appeared in porn.

These days those same recruiters probably just check out the instagram pages of a certain type of "professional photographer" to find that type of guy that's desperate to get noticed and delusional about being hot enough for legit modelling.

by Anonymousreply 57April 11, 2022 7:22 PM

It took you this long to come up with that, R51?

Once again you prove my point.

by Anonymousreply 58April 11, 2022 7:39 PM

Tick tock, R51.

Do you need help with the big words?

by Anonymousreply 59April 11, 2022 7:49 PM

r59, you are tedious. Leaving all that money to nieces and nephews that you never see except for Xmas and Thanksgiving?

by Anonymousreply 60April 11, 2022 7:52 PM

R58 r59 is trolling, because no one could be that obstreperous and stupid.

Either that, or he’s really senile. If that is the case, pity would be the appropriate response. .

by Anonymousreply 61April 11, 2022 8:01 PM

A disproportionate amount so seem damaged by something. Poverty is definitely one of the largest factors though. Narcissism, exhibitionist and histrionic personalities as well. Influencers are no different as they post borderline pornographic photos or videos of themselves and have OnlyFans as a source of income. They share a strong desire to be admired but lack the intelligence, talent, discipline, social skills and ability to take rejection to actually be an actor, model, musician or whatever. Also they get hooked on the attention, partying and drugs and think they are invincible. Until they lose their looks and end up severely depressed. They go back home and get a menial job and as they are usually too stupid to save up their money or use the money to get a degree or certificate.

by Anonymousreply 62April 11, 2022 8:01 PM

R61 did mommy help you with obstreperous?

Such a BIG word for one so retarded!

by Anonymousreply 63April 11, 2022 8:03 PM

The same reason why all people go into porn. They have no talent on anything whatsoever, so they have to rely on sex, the only thing all humans have in common and can do. Kind of pathetic. I seriously can’t think how a talented person wakes up one day and says, “I want to be a porn star!”

by Anonymousreply 64April 11, 2022 8:05 PM

Yep, r63 is trolling and he’s not very good at it

by Anonymousreply 65April 11, 2022 8:07 PM

Also a lot of these porn stars and insta/TikTok hoes are often "ugly ducklings" who transformed themselves online or on camera into sex gods to make up for low self-esteem. Honestly, many actors are like that too but they actually have talent, discipline or charisma hence the studios hiring and paying them. Sex workers usually lack all of that with just their bodies to market. A lot of sex workers and social media influencers are wannabe actors and models.

by Anonymousreply 66April 11, 2022 8:09 PM

I'm not sure if that is fair. Yes, everybody can fuck, but not everyone can do porn.

by Anonymousreply 67April 11, 2022 8:11 PM

a local "star" was whining about no one liking his twitter. ummm, they were. i have noticed they had a peak of a year or so and have fallen off.

by Anonymousreply 68April 11, 2022 8:12 PM

I clearly am good at it, R65.

You’re responding.

by Anonymousreply 69April 11, 2022 8:31 PM

The easy answer OP is because they don't grasp the long-term consequences

Other factors:

* Using porn as a way to come to grips with their sexuality

* Desperately need money for bail money/lawyer/tuition

* Exhibitionists who get off on being admired for their bodies, being "porn famous"

* No education or job prospects and so trading on their looks

* Drug habit

That said, there are guys who I still wonder about: take SeanCody's "David" who was a D1 soccer player at a decent enough college and seems to have graduated and gotten a decent enough job back in his Midwestern hometown, married and procreated. So why the two year-long detour into gay porn? Drugs? A scrape with the law? (Him or a family member?)

But for most it is the reasons listed above. (But you already knew that.)

And no, despite DLEldergay delusions, being an "influencer" or "OnlyFans star" is not very common among teens and 20somethings

Bible Belt and Utah does seem to be where a lot of Instahoes, OF models and porn stars are from. That porn twink Austin Young in his own thread even said he grew up gay in a religious military family and doing porn made him feel better about himself.

He became a car salesman after he aged out of twinkdom.

Nowadays, it's fairly easy to create your own social media brand without having to deal with creepy porn studio or online porn studio bosses. The model controls what he's willing to do and when.

And, if you're pretty and can make a lot of cash for doing something on camera that you do anyway on a daily basis (like, jerking off), it's the very definition of easy money. Using the available resources you have (like yourself) to make some money. It's the (new) American Dream.

The US moves away from sex negativity and shame to consider sex work as a viable way to make money in the era of the online service and entertainment industry.

Young people have to ask themselves: What viable options are out there for me? These days, you can be your own boss, your own brand. You just need the confidence and believe in yourself. And that includes filming yourself jerking off or having sex with, who else, Austin Wolf.

Income inequality is rising. Even though the poor today have more education and luxury today, they are very much trapped in their station now that the ultra wealthy created an oligarchy which keeps their families wealthy for generations. It's difficult to rise socially. So poor kids who are smart and savvy are using technology and social media to make money. Even lower class young people who went to college find it tough in the job market with stagnant wages, inflation and increasing rents. So even educated people are hopping on the social media game.

So people bemoaning the rise of influencers, OnlyFans, porn stars and whatnot. Should look at the elephant in the room. Sex work is linked to poverty.

In the world of the future, you'll be able to find almost everybody's cum shots online. Your relatives', your kids' teacher's, your dentist's, etc.

I guess Gen Z thinks being an influencer and/or an OnlyFans whore means you can just make a living jerking off all day. They think they’ll find someone who will pay them just to exist and they will live happily ever after.

by Anonymousreply 99April 26, 2022 12:57 PM

soon everyone's children will be whores.

Please tell me a time when sex and beauty weren't commodities?

Where did I claim that it's a recent development?

by Anonymousreply 102April 26, 2022 1:06 PM

I think for women, beauty and sex always were. But men were expected to sell their skills and intellect. Now young men are selling themselves. Go in social media and you see boys posing suggestively and making demure faces with pretty hair and form fitting clothing. Overuse of filters too. It's jarring because in the 2000s, young men acted macho and any type of vanity was associated with being gay. Now young guys on social media are pandering to both girls and gays. Older gays with money being their major benefactors.

In your post, with your opening sentence and the follow up sentences to support your opening statement.

I’m curious about the drunk southern boy from several years back who rolled his beautiful ass and big cock several years ago. He wore a baseball cap and dark blue sweat pants.

R103 why would older rich gay men want to have a younger Twink with them? It’s such a waste of money. They would record every sexual encounter and constantly be on their phones DURING sex trying to secure another rich man on the side just in case.

Making it an "east vs. west / us vs. them" issue, painting Muslims as savages who refuse to assimilate and instead try to conquer the west, is a typical right-wing strategy to cause fear, anger, and hostility.

Each new generation, exposed to an alternative (more welcoming and inclusive) culture, moves more and more away from the traditional values of older generations.

r107, so sorry. Obviously posted this in the wrong thread.

by Anonymousreply 108April 26, 2022 1:49 PM

But oddly fits, R107/108.

This is a question as old as porn (and since the first porn was a drawing on the cave wall...). There are three reasons someone does porn: they're a drug addict looking for their next score; 2) they're a hooker looking to advertise; 3) they're a sex addict (see #1). Low self esteem and delusions of fame and fortune are merely symptoms. People still hold a generally negative view of porn stars, and despite all of the talk and countless words written describing the dignity and worth of sex work, that hasn't changed.

Bottom line, porn viewers love them some porn stars 'til they cum, then they're done. They're disposable people, and it makes the viewer feel better about himself that he can find the star hot [italic]and[/italic] not worthy otherwise. That most of the viewers couldn't land a star without the exchange of cash diminishes them not a wit.

by Anonymousreply 110April 26, 2022 2:12 PM

What about the people who do it because it's the only thing they have left that's going to pay the rent that month or keep the lights on?

by Anonymousreply 111April 26, 2022 2:18 PM

Dataloungers truly believe that every fourth Gen Z is an influencer or OnlyFans star

by Anonymousreply 112April 26, 2022 2:26 PM

In my final year of college, I was “scouted” by a porn producer. I was smart and secure and about to graduate, so If you would’ve told me I would consider it, I wouldn’t have thought it was possible. However, he was so persuasive and smart in the way he talked to me, making the whole thing sound like just a fun paid vacation, that I did consider. It got so far that the studio was calling me to make flight and hotel arrangements before I finally wised up. I can imagine how easy it is for more impressionable, more down on their luck young’uns to be talked into it.

by Anonymousreply 113April 26, 2022 2:32 PM

It pays better than any other job they could get. Plus they get to be on film and enjoy some celebrity

by Anonymousreply 114April 26, 2022 2:36 PM

They're insecure; if they have a big dick and nice pecs and abs, they can get some easy confidence boosters by swinging their hard-on for all the world to admire. (But they need their TikTok hair to be on fleek for it to really work.)

by Anonymousreply 115April 26, 2022 3:13 PM

I thank them for their service.

by Anonymousreply 116April 26, 2022 5:50 PM

Well at least these twinks know what is good for them: just being a sexual object of desire. They know their place is nothing more than carnal pleasure. They can capitalize on it before they become too old and unwanted.

by Anonymousreply 117April 26, 2022 6:27 PM

But I also question who exactly would judge someone for doing porn. And I mean judge them in a way that may have some economic impact i.e. making them lose their normal job or denying them housing.

If you work some office job and a guy a few rows over did porn back in the day, would you really give a shit? You might be curious what it looks like but would you go out if your way to treat him like a lower? Why?

Fun fact: a guy I work with used to be an actor. Has an IMDB page and everything. If you search his name you’ll see some head shots and other modeling photos of him shirtless come up. He was in a film where he had to shoot a love scene and yes you could briefly see his naked ass. He stopped acting after he got married and had a daughter because he wanted to provide a stable life for his family and the money wasn’t rolling in quick enough. Fortunately he had an IT background to fall back on so he does that now.

The fact that a guy I’ve seen a guy I work with semi-nude does nothing for me.

I really think the stigma is mostly perpetuated by fraus, messy queens, and old people (in that order).

by Anonymousreply 118April 27, 2022 2:06 PM

This thread is muddy.

Half of you are talking about porn which involves pimps and producers taking the bulk of the cash.

The other half are taking about self-produced 'porn' where the performers control the performance and take all the cash.

by Anonymousreply 119April 27, 2022 10:42 PM

I imagine a lot of young guys in the 90s and 2000s did camming and it ended up lost to time either because nobody recorded the screens or if they did when their data and servers went down. I'm sure many xTubers went on to live normal professional lives as well. Stuff like OnlyFans and Chaturbate seems more rife for doxxing. But many young guys don't seem to even care about anonymity anymore. It's so easy to find cam performers names now.

by Anonymousreply 120April 27, 2022 11:06 PM
But many young guys don't seem to even care about anonymity anymore.

But they need to show face. It's not erotic without face and personality.

I'd like to hear from Dawson. He made one of the greatest movies of all time and is now living a charmed life as a 'civilian.'

by Anonymousreply 123April 28, 2022 12:08 AM

R121 I can do without ever seeing someone’s face.

by Anonymousreply 124April 28, 2022 12:30 PM
What makes young guys want to go into porn?

A combination of stupidity and immaturity. And we thank those dummies for being the way they are.

by Anonymousreply 125April 28, 2022 12:32 PM

Young dumb and full of cum hey!! Never loses its appeal r125 !
