Grindr: why so many hate "taps"?

I am new to Grindr and have noticed how some users complain or even warn against a browser tapping them in their profile.

It seems they want messages, but not taps?

Why are taps an issue?

Aren't both taps and messages welcome by most? Not everyone wants to type a message, so they quickly tap someone to show interest, right?

Bump.

Still not sure why it seems some or many Grindr users say in their profile not to tap them, or even that it's cowardly.

Hmm...

Thanks..

For fuck's sake, they want sex now (right this fucking instant now) with someone who has photos at the ready and meets all their criteria at a glance.

They don't want to engage in a flirtation, they want dick in hole. Now! None of this flirtatious signaling with a ladies fan at a society ball in 1906, no elaborate farce of checking one's dance card for an opening, and no introductions to the chaperone aunt, yes, the ancient one with the ear trumpet.

[Tap]

"Hi. I'm Trevor! What's your name?"

"Hi, Trevor. Pleased to meet you. I'm Miguel."

"A pleasure! What are your pronouns Miguel? What brings you to Grindr today?"

No. No. FFS, no. That's what they are telling you, you clueless wanker.

I lol when I see this on Grindr: don’t tap me, I will BLoCK YOU!

by Anonymousreply 4April 8, 2022 6:58 AM

I always regard ‘the tap’ as like the eye up in the social situation. I seriously don’t get this ‘no taps’ rubbish!

Tapping is far better than an opening message that just says ‘cock pic?’. Especially from a blank profile with no detail on it!

I dont mind taps but I hate it when it's a blank profile tapping me, if I cant see you then why am I meant to be interested?

by Anonymousreply 6April 8, 2022 7:18 AM

I’m fine with taps - easy to ignore. Sometimes it works out.

by Anonymousreply 7April 8, 2022 7:21 AM

taps are annoying and easy to ignore, unless you're hot of course

by Anonymousreply 8April 8, 2022 8:23 AM

Nice way to quickly confirm mutual interest without having to write a message that may get ignored if he's not attracted to you.

Give a tap. Get one in return. Go.

. That said, I quit Grindr years ago — it's a time sink and highly addictive.

Because there is no consent button for the taps. So, anybody can tap you without your consent. As much as they want. As hard as they want. It violates the person's dignity and it's a form of digital rape. A digital finger in your hole without you asking for it. Everybody deserves a space to be safe and secure and that means everybody. So, please don't just tap anyone just because you can. Be better. Be human. Be a better human.
