This is pretty common. The kids in my class used to do this to our favorite teacher.

I suspect this is the "cool" teacher and straight teen boys love "dogging" things about their favorite teachers as a way to bond with them. (Just like they sometimes make fun of each other.)

The shoes are usually the first thing they go for. Then the haircut and the outfits.

They say your shoes tell so much about you. The tennis shoes I've been wearing all summer I found in a refuse bin at work a year ago, when 3/4 of my workplace was told to work from home from now on. Everyone was dumping tons of detritis accumulated over decades into orange dumpsters on wheels. I couldn't let a good pair of sneakers go to waste.
