Barrie Youngfellow Freed passed this past Monday night. She was 75. She called Woodstock, NY her home since 1989. She loved the town and the friends she met there. Before retiring she worked as an actress on stage and television starring on the long running series “It’s a Living”. Born in Cleveland, Ohio where she performed the title role in several productions of Peter Pan. She could fly with the best of them. She was the best of friends and had many loyal ones. Loved a good story and a nice bottle. Had a great laugh that confirmed her sense of life. Even during her decline, she could shoot off a good one liner. She was so nourished by the care and kindness and love that she received from the staff at Ten Broeck Rehab. Thank you, Catskill. She was married to her husband of 39 years, Sam, who was almost as important to her as her dogs and cats. She is survived by her sister heide rivchun of Cleveland and her sister Kim Rivchun of Providence, RI. Cremation arrangements are under the guidance of the Joseph V. Leahy Funeral Home, Inc. 27 Smith Avenue, Kingston. www.jvleahyfh.com. In lieu of a donation please give someone a loving hug.

She seemed to retire from acting after "It's A Living" wrapped

r6, you must be new here. It's what she does in the It's a Living opening (all versions)

Well, this sucks. I always liked her, she was in quite a few things when I was a kid, including a made-for-TV Christmas movie called "It Came Upon a Midnight Clear" that our local ABC station played every Christmas Day for several years in a row.
She also guested on "Filthy Rich," which is a DL fave for the six or seven of us on here who remember the show.

r21 And who could forget her star turn(see what I did there?) as DL fave/icon Joan Crawford in the film "Moviola," about the search for the perfect actress to play Scarlet O'Hara.

[quote] Much sympathy to Barrie's family and community. I´m just a fan of Barrie's from her wonderful, vivacious TV work. I just wanted to say her performances really brightened my time growing up in the 80s and my friends all loved her on It's a Living/Making a Living too. Glad she lived a happy life in Woodstock and wish her loved ones healing and peace. Signed, Child of the 80s Sends Condolences

When I was in JR High school and new I would become a fabulous actress pursued for my talent, charm and beauty (it didn’t happen - I’m doing laundry today) - anyway in JR High the Moviola Miniseries was such a thrill! I haven’t seen it in years - I’m sure it would be cheesy compared to my memory of it. I remember being disappointed on how the real Garbo and Gilbert were so different from Moviola - Barry Bostwick played John Gilbert - Barry Bostwick was so sexy in everything he was in back then. …..Sorry for the low road - I guess Barrie Chase is no longer Young and Healthy!

Marc Sotkin who worked for It's a Living and The Golden Girls posted a tribute.
It's a Living is one of those shows that no one connected with ever seems to want to talk about. They did a 40th anniversary on one of the retro stations two years ago, and they didn't get anybody to come in and do guest promos or anything. It's never brought up in interviews with Sheryl Lee Ralph. She talks more about that wretched last season of Designing Women she was in, even participating in an all-star reading of the Designing Women pilot episode. They rerun an old Johnny Carson episode where both Susan Sullivan and Sheryl are guests, and Sheryl brings up how she shoots IAL for three weeks out of a month, but it's never mentioned that Susan was on the show at one point.
And honestly, watching the show in recent years in reruns, I never realized how much TGG borrowed heavily from it. Plots, jokes, even sets!

I’m in touch with one of her cousins. His Facebook page is filling with tributes to Barrie filled with memories of all the people who knew her, mine included. As a teen, Barrie Rivchun became a local legend for her performance as Peter Pan. For years children would show up at their front door hoping to meet Peter. Barrie’s mother would keep a jar of glitter by the door so even though Peter wasn’t home, they could get a sprinkle of fairy dust. Barrie was a wonderful woman from a wonderful family.

It is with great sorrow, infinite love & light I share the following from Sam Freed, our dearest Barrie Youngfellow’s amazing husband. Ill bet she had alheimers or something similar. That stated in the announcement that even "through her decline" she was still able to throw out one liners...or something to that effect, yet they decline to say what she died from.

Why I love coming here is the random DL obsessions with random 70s/80s actors like this.
I only know her from that TC ep where she doesn’t want to tell Jack she’s living with “two men,” I would never know in my life her name where it not for DL lore.
I think she’s probably shaving a few years off her age though. I don’t really see the point once you’re dead.

I always thought Ann Jillian was gorgeous with the red hair she had in Mr. Mom.
That bleached blond shit was so dried out and brittle looking that it resembled straw under a scarecrow's hat. Plus it made her look fatter.

If that were to happen it'd be a squeaker, R66. IMDB only lists two cinematic movies on her resume. The rest are for TV.

r67 They tried to "Joan her up" makeup-wise, and she did have a good scene when she was trying to get the part of Scarlet O'Hara, throwing her weight around and then trying to be seductive. The best thing though about "The Scarlet O'Hara War" was the scene between Carole Lombard(DL fave Sharon Gless) and Tallulah Bankhead(Carrie Nye)

From Ann Jillian’s website. What the hell is a piano lecture?
Piano Lecture
Ann is always on target with her message of hope; her performance is uplifting and inspirational. Have Ann bring her pianist, and her talk remains a major lecture about life, health, and the joys of motherhood, accentuated with song. In addition to her regular series, a "mini-concert" with accompanying pianist accentuates Ann's lecture about life, health and the joys of motherhood. (Click on Program Titles for lecture programs.)
Experience
Ann Jillian is a show business veteran of 40+ years and has been receiving standing ovations as a motivational speaker since 1985.
Former first lady, Betty Ford, once said of Ann, "...Ann's message is so inspirational. It motivates us to do what we should be doing for ourselves to be happy, healthy, in love with life and everyone in it..."
Program titles are:
"Never Had A Bad Day In My Life"
"Surviving & Thriving"
"The Winner In You" Available as straight lecture or optional piano lecture.
"A Conversation With Ann Jillian."

I remember a bit of dialogue between Barrie Youngfellow as Joan Crawford and George Furth as George Cukor in "The Scarlett O'Hara Wars" that I found amusing. Cukor has just broken the news to Joan that she won't be playing Scarlett, but, to smooth things over, he tells her he has another movie he'll be directing with a part that's perfect for her. It went something like this:
Cukor: "It's called 'The Women' and I know you're going to love it."
Joan: "Hmmm. 'The Woman.' "
Cukor: "It's called 'The Women.' "
Joan: "You mean more than one?"

Thanks for that pic R87 – they both look fantastic; Gail in particular. I worked with her (and DL fave Annie Potts) on two stage productions in 1980, just before they both booked series – IAL for Gail and Goodtime Girls for Annie. Gail’s kept her loveliness throughout the years, and Annie looks pretty good too on Young Sheldon.

In Barrie's honor, watching her episode of Murder, She Wrote, "Trevor Hudson's Legacy," which is one I usually skip. It's been so long 'd forgotten she was even in it. She's a tough Western gal in Montana! She shoots a rifle! And washes a truck! And...that's about it. Not a big character, but one of the few in the episode who isn't a complete asshole, so that's nice.
