He and his wife were sitting right behind Will and Jada
What was Benedict Cumberbatch thinking about Will Smith's outburst?

I’m sure he was totally horrified, both at the assault and how trashy the Smiths are, but also that he was going to lose an Oscar to a third-rate actor in an average performance.

“WTF is this”, but thinking with a British accent.

"Go back to the colonies."

He's English, they are very good at pretending it didn't happen/sweeping it under the rug etc.

He looks better with glasses then without.

Too constipated to have a facial expression.

The most British picture EVER. They could have been sitting across from HRH based on how they're posed.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 31, 2022 12:22 AM |
He was thinking how much he'd like Will Smith to do that to Martin Freeman.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 31, 2022 12:28 AM |
You couldn't find a better picture than that, OP?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 31, 2022 4:14 AM |
I wondered what Steven Spielberg and Judi Dench were thinking immediately.

I think as far as coloured actors go...

r12 non-Americans are often unaware of "person of color" (good) vs. "colored" (bad). It's a common mistake many foreigners make because this language is only part of American vernacular and no other vernacular.

That picture is hilarious. So very, very English!

Unfortunately he gave WS a standing ovation x2 so he is dead to me.

Kodi is beautiful.

What's that smell?
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 31, 2022 4:41 AM |
I think I can hold my nose more to the standing ovation because a)they all probably had expected to stand before they even got there that night and when people started standing I can assume there were some that kinda just went with it b)his fellow nominees might've felt like they would look like sore losers if they didn't c)a great deal of them feared being called racist by Jada and her ilk. Partying with him and taking pictures with him at parties however, that's repulsive and unforgivable.

LOL at OP's low res picture. I'm sure Cumby was appalled but kept a stiff upper lip.

Many of them avoided Smith at the parties.

r19 it was the only one I could find. I wasn't going to do a deep dive search.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 31, 2022 4:55 AM |
IMHO that is part of the problem if people stood because they were afraid of Will and Jada. It was supposed to be a celebration of all movies, not a celebration of black celebrities.

R12 In Spain colored is the preferred term to refer to black people. I've seen Americans try to cancel Spaniards for this.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | March 31, 2022 5:43 AM |
r26 Many Americans have no understanding of the world.

[quote] In Spain colored is the preferred term to refer to black people.
In Spanish in general it is "negro" which simply means "black" and doesn't have the negative/outdated connotations the same word has in English.

[Quote] It was supposed to be a celebration of all movies, not a celebration of black celebrities.
Playing rap music over the 50th anniversary clips of The Godfather movies, having P Diddy announce it, without a single word uttered by Pacino or DeNiro, suggests they specifically wanted it to be about black actors. Nothing wrong with celebrating amazing black actors. But this was a once in a lifetime 50th anniversary tribute of one of the greatest movies of all time and they ruined it.

Exactly R29. Who's going to remember that dreck that Smith won an oscar for a month from now?
