Lady Louise Windsor!

I like Louise but, seriously, do we really need a thread for this?

Louise is lovely.

Her younger brother is a 'tard though, isn't he? He reminds me of Melania's son, manners-wise.

Ok, I've just found out he's about 14 yrs old, so there's probably nothing wrong with him except for just a bit too much fapping going on in Bagshot Park Manor.

I think she's led an incredibly sheltered existence and is just now realizing that, to some degree, the world's eyes are on her.

It'll be interesting to see what she does with her life. My bet is she'll either be a magnificent agent of change in the world or she'll settle down on a large estate and raise a bunch of kids.

She seems like a kind and humble girl. I love her fascinator.

I think she will use her aunt, Princess Anne, as a role model for navigating a royal in life in the British Royal Family.

When I am King, she'll go to the back of the bus with my York nieces.

Has she announced yet whether or not she will continue to eschew the titles of Princess and HRH? This was the year she was allowed to decide one way or the other, according to her parents.

She's attractive but not beautiful, although recently some queen on DL laid out what he thought she should do (including electrolysis on her hairline!!) to be prettier, and I had to laugh at his suggestions. One of the great advantages of being born a royal is that you get to be rich and famous, yet you can do whatever you like about your appearance--you wouldn't have to go through a ridiculous and painful bother like electrolysis on your hairline as you would in Hollywood.

Major impact on the world is doubtful, really, but she does seem to have blossomed into a self-contained and I would guess deceptively unassuming young woman. She may turn out more in the mold of Lady Sarah Chatto, without the arty bent. Or, her Aunt, Pss Anne.

Only she's much prettier. Definitely the latest addition to the English Rose collection.

If the Windsors could get their arsrs in gear for real change, and ditch the Harkles and Yorks for real, and bring the Wessexes forward, Lady Louise and possibly Pss Beatrice, might be the additions they need.

She's the spitting image of Queen Mary. I hope she inherited her great-great grandmother's intelligence and strength of will.

R20 hope she didn't inherit Queen Mary's cruelty to her own children - especially the mentally handicapped one John who got kicked out of the family and farmed out to a housemaid.

It's true, Mary was a very good wife and Queen, and the greatest museum curator that never was, but she wasn't much of a mother. She should have paid more attention and gotten rid of David and Bertie's insane nanny much sooner. John, though, was an unusual case. It was really common for families to have mentally disabled family members cared for out of public sight back then, and Wood Farm is a beautiful place in the country (Prince Philip spent is final years there), and the woman caring for Prince John was the children's beloved Nanny Bill.

He had playmates among the local children and was excellently cared for until he died of a seizure at 14. Perhaps the family's stance wasn't enlightened when it came to him, but it wasn't cruel. Surviving letters of the period indicate that Mary was devastated by his death but put on a public stiff upper lip as she always did. It was David who said, quite candidly in his letters, that his brother John wasn't much better than an animal and was better off dead.

R23 the fact that Louise was born with a disability is in fact important for the royals. People with disabilities are far more prejudiced against in society than are biracial Hollywood starlets. The story of the Queen Mother's nieces who were mentally disabled and hidden away in institutions all their lives is shocking.

Some biographers have claimed that the Queen Mother refused to recognize her nieces because having disabled family members was a sign of genetic weakness and would have harmed the royals. Interestingly though, in the same time period, Charles de Gaulle lived in London throughout the War. Every day, weather permitting, he would walk with his daughter Anne who had Down Syndrome in Hyde Park as people would gawk at them.

I thought it was wonderful that Louise was a bridesmaid and Kate and William's wedding, though her eye condition hadn't been corrected yet. She was a little girl with a squint, not a leper.

Trying to imagine a cross-eyed kid had an easy time of it. I'm sure she didn't.

De Gaulle’s daughter had Down Syndrome. It is to his credit that he did not hide her away as was customary at the time. However, that was his daughter, not his niece, and her level of disability was quite minor consisted to that if the Queen Mother’s nieces. My understanding is that it was not remotely possible to accompany them on a walk in the park.

About De Gaulle, I read a French biography of him. De Gaulle was a very conservative Catholic, and like all the military elite of his time, was also anti-Semitic. See Dreyfus. It might have been more natural for him to ally himself with Hitler and become Petain himself. De Gaulle was extraordinarily eloquent, his mastery of the French language equaled that of Churchill in English who, as JFK said, "weaponized the English language". Had De Gaulle sided with the Nazis rather than leading the Resistance, WWII might have had a different outcome. De Gaulle was opposed to Hitler originally because he learned Hitler was euthanizing people with disabilities, people the Nazis described as "lives unworthy of life".

If the photo of Grosvenor with the young lady is anything to go by, I fear Lady Louise is a bit too, er, countrified for him. The lady in the photograph looks, er, very spritely.

It depends on values. Lady Louise is the granddaughter of the queen and a blood princess. Harriet Tomlinson's family made their fortune in . . . curtains. Grosvenor might not give a shit about background, in which case a pretty, intelligent girl like Harriet who can play the waiting game will be fine, as Kate Middleton was fine for Will.

Of course, Hugh and Harriet are currently broken up, so perhaps now that he's actually getting to the age where he's picking a mate, background will matter more. It won't be Louise, who is too young for him, but it will probably be The Honorable or Lady Somebody.

While it seems they're trying to make Lady Louise a thing, I think she's lacking the X-factor.

Also the title and the desire. If she went by Princess Louise she'd get a lot more attention, as she's of legal age now and the only unmarried woman of that generation left. I don't think she wants the attention, though. She'll develop more in the Sarah Chatto than the Princess Eugenie mold.

I think you're probably right, R38. She seems not to want attention at all.

James Wessex looks like Princess Anne because Anne looks like Prince Philip, whom James also more than passingly resembles. (Look at pictures of the two as boys to see what I mean: It would be even clearer if James were blond like Philip was.)

Lady Louise also bears an uncanny resemblance to Archduchess Gisela of Austria.

R47 - Great catch - as Lady Louis looks very much like her father, it follows that Edward also looks very much like the Archduchess.

The Archduchess appears to have led an exemplary life.

No-one could inbreed like a Hapsburg. Gisela was fortunate her mother was a Wittelsbach.

Lady Louise's parents were smart to eschew the Princess title for her. It would bring in attention it's clear she doesn't want.

Did anyone see the Easter pictures of Lady Louise on the "church walk"??? Louise's overall appearance was ok but she was wearing one ugly dress that looked as if it came out of her mother's closet and was loaned to her for the occasion of this event. Tried to link a picture but the link would not work cooperate. You can google it with no problem.

Louise dresses like a typical blue-blood aristocrat. Her place in life is so assured that she doesn't have to drag out the couture or even match her outfits. She can wear the same dowdy, beautifully made clothes for years and nobody will say boo.
