Can Lady Gaga save the Oscars by hosting next year?
The Oscars were a trainwreck at a historic low but the one thing everyone was unanimous on was that Gaga's appearance with Liza Minnelli was heartwarming and the highlight of the night (as low a bar as that is).
People are suggesting that Gaga should host the Oscars for now on. She's one of the few stars of today who can pull in viewers and actually cares about the integrity of film and movie legends. Her Sound of Music tribute was widely praised, even by Julie Andrews, and shocked everyone at how reverential it was. After three gruesome hosts who made jokes about sexual assaulting men and boasted about not watching any of the nominated movies, it would be refreshing to have someone host who actually cares about cinema and its legacy.

The Oscars will now be the BET and VMA Awards from here on out. It’s the only way they can get attention for it. No one should go near this ceremony.

She was fucking patronizing.
"I GOT YOU."
Liza (irritated): "I know."

No. It will be boring because she won't want to tell any "offensive" jokes and get cancelled or punched.

Hell. Get Gaga, Jennifer Coolidge, and somebody unabashedly gay (I'm open to suggestions) to host the thing and be done with it. Go gay or go home I say. We're the Oscars saving grace and always have been really.

Fuck no. You might as well just cancel the whole thing forever.

Well Bruce is an Oscar winner from last night for Costume Design. He won for his designs for Cruella.

R9 Trashy movie with trashy designs. Only won because Disney was the broadcaster of the Oscars. Hollywood "glamour" has become a joke now and this movie and its win is further proof. The audacity from some critics who claimed this was a new All About Eve.

Lady Gaga is not funny. She would make a terrible host.

We don't need comedians, we need a big star, someone with a little reverence for film. I adored her "Sound of Music" tribute.

R12 100% agree. Sick of comedians with their unfunny shticks and nasty jokes. The Oscars isn't a comedy routine. Give us some prestige.
This reminds me of Fantasia 2000 which featured a litany of hosts instead of just one like the original did with the esteemed Deems Taylor, a household name for all American families in the 1940s. They tried way too hard in Fantasia 2000 to appeal to the lowbrow so they had hacks like Penn and Teller do inane skits. Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones were the highpoints with no crude remarks or attempts to be current to appeal to young people. Just pure dignity and appreciation for cinema.

She can't save something that has been dying out for decades. Hollywood is a greedy money machine destroyed by global capitalism. What art is there left? America doesn't care about creativity over profit. The Oscars just need to die.

DL median age is 50 and up. Because nobody under that age demo gave a shit about the Oscars until Will went psycho on Chris Rock. Rocketed the ratings.

I don’t mind Lady Gaga as a musical performer at all, but she really needs to calm down for a bit and give the public a break.
She doesn’t have anywhere near the level of gravitas/talent/sophistication /originality that she thinks she does, and she’s been coasting on the fact that her young fans aren’t aware of her mimicry of older artists for a very long time.
Currently her house of Gucci publicity blitzes and faux modest wannabe Garbo behaviour are making her seem a bit silly and immature which is disappointing. If she really truly wants to act she needs many more lessons and a bit of an ego beat down.
Maybe she just wants to get the egot and that’s the main thing.

No! Oscars need to go more MTV Awards to be relevant, it’s the truth.
Old people clearly don’t watch the show and if that show has to continue, it has to appeal to young audiences. And by young, I mean 40 and under.
More mainstream movies. Nominate The Batman! Nominate the next Marvel movie if it’s good. Bring out the real stars of today.
No more obscure Oscar bait movies no one cares about.

I didn't watch it. I didn't see any of the movies except for The Lost Daughter and Parallel Mothers, both of which were "meh." I tried a few other 2021 movies -- Power of the Dog, for one. Didn't make it through the first 10 minutes. And I'm 63.
I can't even remember the last time I really loved a movie. The closest I've come in recent years was "Nomadland," which was half documentary anyway.
Cinema may be a lost art.

Just have Amy Schumer do it. She was damn good. I was shocked, frankly.
The Oscars was actually decent last night. Until the Bitch Slap.
Yes, Gaga was sweet with Liza, but she's a Performer. She's be annoying as a host. And I like Gaga.

I wasn't the least shocked about Amy bringing it. I predicted so on earlier threads where everyone snarked about her. I am surprised Wanda was off her game.

Why does black culture keep appropriating gay culture’s best shit and ruining it: luxury brands, the Met Ball, South Beach, the Oscars? Give us our Super Bowl back.
