Jessica Chastain Gossip
I have heard Jessica had a first marriage between college and Juilliard back when she lived in Sacramento. Apparently she and her family have managed to hide any reference to it. Her first marriage and first husband are not on her Wikipedia page or anywhere on line. It’s as if the marriage never happened.
What could have happened that our freshly minted Oscar winner is so desperately trying to hide?

It’s impossible in this day and age to keep a movie star’s former marriage a secret. CDAN has been writing about this for years.

I cannot stand this preachy cunt. The only good thing about her win is that she prevented Kristen Stewart from winning.

She's not a cunt and she's a great actress. I felt a little sorry for her getting that awkward political speech out during her acceptance but I can't blame her after psychopath Will Smith derailed everybody's evening.

Not hot gossip at all, but I had a Sac friend who was in acting classes with her, & one day he either burped or farted (he can’t remember which) right in front of her & she was really (rightfully) repulsed.

She has like two kids (through surrogacy - which is controversial), yet working and hustling nonstop. I also doubt her count husband is raising those kids.

Famous for lying about her age. Singer Mandisa (RIP) inadvertently caused a commotion when she revealed she was in Chastain’s class in high school.
Lots of whispers about a former relationship between Chastain and Hollywood head honcho Megan Ellison. Ellison was said to be in love with Chastain, who is not gay but played ball to secure parts in prestige pictures.

She has done things that contradict her squeaky-clean, outspoken feminist image, but would probably prefer to do more edgy material as well as work with a lot of more morally questionable, but talented people had she not painted herself into such a corner with the image she has crafted for herself.

Just recently, she worked with oddball director Bernard Rose and signed on to do a David Mamet scripted JFK conspiracy movie. Mamet has turned into a big time right-wing Trumper. I don't know if this is start of her branching out or just more outliers.
To be clear, I don't have a horse in the race. I'm just a fascinated observer.

All I know about her I know from a Tasteful Friends post about her apartment at the Osborne (which is great). Otherwise, she's an actress and I'm reasonably certain I've seen her in a film or two but that she made no impression one way or the other.
Don't care if she had a secret husband or not. Some relationships are best forgotten.

Her Tammy Faye Oscar will always be considered one of the most unjust and undeserved wins ever awarded by the Academy.

She's like Meryl Streep. Great actress who mostly works with vanilla directors in decent, but mediocre movies. But J will "Zero Dark Thirty" and "The Forgiven" are at least edgier than anything Streep has done.

I don’t know how she won an Oscar for that terrible, one-note, baby girl performance as Tammy Faye. That was a terrible film. The Academy really should’ve tried harder that year.
She’s not that great of an actress. Despite her Juilliard training, she couldn’t cut it on Broadway in The Heiress. And her return in A Doll’s House left Tony voters cold. She should stop trying to recreate other actresses triumphs (Cherry Jones, Janet McTeer) and do something original.

R24- Really?
I found Julianne Moore's win for that HORRID Alzheimers film to be the definition of what you are ascribing to Jessica--
(I do agree that the EOTF film was flawed, but I found it very watchable)
There are many actresses in unwatchable films who at least get nominated- I fucking hate all of Larrain's films but he gets good performances out of his actresses- but his films leave me utterly cold. Current one is Maria.

Chastain is attractive and she’s a competent actor, but the poster above nailed her problem when he said he’d seen movies with her but she made no impression on him. And it’s true, there is simply nothing interesting about her work or screen presence.
I was once watching a movie she was in where she was part of a large cast, and her character drops out of the story for a while. When her character returned, I realized I had forgotten all about her in the interim, out of sight out of mind. Despite the big features and showy red hair she’s a vacuum in everything she’s in.

I like her performance as Celia Foote in "The Help"- an otherwise crappy (pie) movie. It's very broad but she's darling with lots of warmth and vulernability. I love "Zero Dark Thirty" and she's decent in it....but I always felt that role would have benefited from a more cerebral actress. AWFUL in Crimson Peak- it's camp but not the good kind. And I saw "The Heiress" on Broadway and yes- she was pretty bad. So: can't do period, can't do accents. Other weird rumors about her? For a long time she was said to have an unusually close 'friendship' with actress Jessica Wexler- they were in the same Juilliard class and attended lots of events together for years afterwards. She got a full ride scholarship to Juilliard paid for by Robin Williams. Her big break came with the play 'Salome' as Al Pacino was looking for an 'unknown'. Her sister struggled with addiction and eventually committed suicide. Looks gaunt in the face with thinning hair she struggles to hide because she's vegan. Definitely NOT a nepo baby- my fave Chastain fact! That's all I got.

She has the same problem Anne Hathaway has: there are few moments where it’s not obvious that she’s acting. Too arch and mannered.

r19, I worked on the Bernard Rose project (which I don't think it's going to see the light of day-it's another Megapolis). She and BR got into a screaming match one day, sadly I wasn't there to see it.

Her latest movie "Dreams" just screened at the Berlin. Apparently she has some fairly graphic sex scenes and even gets raped at the end, This is more evidence that she might be trying to breaking away, even though that recent Hollywood Reporter interview seemed almost apologetic. Trying assure people that this isn't an irresponsible/exploitive/anti-immigration movie by spouting her political views and feminist takes on the material.

Professional critics mostly like "Dreams", but Letterboxd reviews are quite divisive.
It would be a disappointment if "Dreams" does not become massively controversial and dragged by certain groups. As well as Jessica called out for her perceived bad taste and hypocrisy.
I have no horse in this, I just enjoy discourse and debate - especially when it involves progressive Hollywood feminist types.
