Jessica Chastain Gossip

I have heard Jessica had a first marriage between college and Juilliard back when she lived in Sacramento. Apparently she and her family have managed to hide any reference to it. Her first marriage and first husband are not on her Wikipedia page or anywhere on line. It’s as if the marriage never happened.

What could have happened that our freshly minted Oscar winner is so desperately trying to hide?

by Anonymousreply 55February 19, 2025 2:17 PM

It’s impossible in this day and age to keep a movie star’s former marriage a secret. CDAN has been writing about this for years.

by Anonymousreply 1March 28, 2022 5:20 PM

I cannot stand this preachy cunt. The only good thing about her win is that she prevented Kristen Stewart from winning.

by Anonymousreply 2March 28, 2022 5:22 PM

LGBTQ cunt.

by Anonymousreply 3March 28, 2022 5:31 PM

She's not a cunt and she's a great actress. I felt a little sorry for her getting that awkward political speech out during her acceptance but I can't blame her after psychopath Will Smith derailed everybody's evening.

by Anonymousreply 4March 28, 2022 5:38 PM

I still want to know the story behind her association with Matthew Newton.

by Anonymousreply 5April 1, 2023 5:22 AM

R5 I'd guess that 'her people' didn't do their research very well.

by Anonymousreply 6April 1, 2023 5:27 AM

Not hot gossip at all, but I had a Sac friend who was in acting classes with her, & one day he either burped or farted (he can’t remember which) right in front of her & she was really (rightfully) repulsed.

by Anonymousreply 7April 1, 2023 5:54 AM

She has like two kids (through surrogacy - which is controversial), yet working and hustling nonstop. I also doubt her count husband is raising those kids.

by Anonymousreply 8November 19, 2024 9:28 PM

Famous for lying about her age. Singer Mandisa (RIP) inadvertently caused a commotion when she revealed she was in Chastain’s class in high school.

Lots of whispers about a former relationship between Chastain and Hollywood head honcho Megan Ellison. Ellison was said to be in love with Chastain, who is not gay but played ball to secure parts in prestige pictures.

by Anonymousreply 9November 19, 2024 9:33 PM

Jess and I are both high school Class of 2012. We both went to the same school...

by Anonymousreply 10November 19, 2024 9:39 PM

I don't know her

by Anonymousreply 11November 19, 2024 9:40 PM

She has done things that contradict her squeaky-clean, outspoken feminist image, but would probably prefer to do more edgy material as well as work with a lot of more morally questionable, but talented people had she not painted herself into such a corner with the image she has crafted for herself.

by Anonymousreply 12November 19, 2024 9:40 PM

She's no Isla Fisher

by Anonymousreply 13November 19, 2024 9:43 PM

[quote] Jess and I are both high school Class of 2012. We both went to the same school... —Catherine Zeta-Jones

I was freshmen then. I always looked up to you all.

by Anonymousreply 14November 19, 2024 9:44 PM

Just recently, she worked with oddball director Bernard Rose and signed on to do a David Mamet scripted JFK conspiracy movie. Mamet has turned into a big time right-wing Trumper. I don't know if this is start of her branching out or just more outliers.

To be clear, I don't have a horse in the race. I'm just a fascinated observer.

by Anonymousreply 15November 19, 2024 9:58 PM

All I know about her I know from a Tasteful Friends post about her apartment at the Osborne (which is great). Otherwise, she's an actress and I'm reasonably certain I've seen her in a film or two but that she made no impression one way or the other.

Don't care if she had a secret husband or not. Some relationships are best forgotten.

It’s off the record, on the QT, and very hush-hush…

by Anonymousreply 17November 19, 2024 10:38 PM

Her Tammy Faye Oscar will always be considered one of the most unjust and undeserved wins ever awarded by the Academy.

by Anonymousreply 18November 19, 2024 10:46 PM

As a drag queen at heart, I’ll always love these:

I can think of one worse.

by Anonymousreply 20November 19, 2024 11:16 PM

She's like Meryl Streep. Great actress who mostly works with vanilla directors in decent, but mediocre movies. But J will "Zero Dark Thirty" and "The Forgiven" are at least edgier than anything Streep has done.

by Anonymousreply 21January 22, 2025 1:29 PM

Who?

by Anonymousreply 22January 22, 2025 1:50 PM

R18- I actually disagree with that statement. But I like jessica so..

by Anonymousreply 23January 22, 2025 5:32 PM

I don’t know how she won an Oscar for that terrible, one-note, baby girl performance as Tammy Faye. That was a terrible film. The Academy really should’ve tried harder that year.

She’s not that great of an actress. Despite her Juilliard training, she couldn’t cut it on Broadway in The Heiress. And her return in A Doll’s House left Tony voters cold. She should stop trying to recreate other actresses triumphs (Cherry Jones, Janet McTeer) and do something original.

by Anonymousreply 24January 22, 2025 7:41 PM

R24- Really?

I found Julianne Moore's win for that HORRID Alzheimers film to be the definition of what you are ascribing to Jessica--

(I do agree that the EOTF film was flawed, but I found it very watchable)

There are many actresses in unwatchable films who at least get nominated- I fucking hate all of Larrain's films but he gets good performances out of his actresses- but his films leave me utterly cold. Current one is Maria.

by Anonymousreply 25January 22, 2025 8:00 PM

Chastain is attractive and she’s a competent actor, but the poster above nailed her problem when he said he’d seen movies with her but she made no impression on him. And it’s true, there is simply nothing interesting about her work or screen presence.

I was once watching a movie she was in where she was part of a large cast, and her character drops out of the story for a while. When her character returned, I realized I had forgotten all about her in the interim, out of sight out of mind. Despite the big features and showy red hair she’s a vacuum in everything she’s in.

by Anonymousreply 26January 23, 2025 3:48 AM

Who cares?

by Anonymousreply 27January 23, 2025 3:53 AM

[quote] Despite the big features and showy red hair she’s a vacuum in everything she’s in.

Sort of makes you wonder why anyone hires her, right?

by Anonymousreply 28January 23, 2025 4:14 AM

Watching her in Mothers' Instinct right now on Hulu and she is pretty good in it

by Anonymousreply 29January 23, 2025 5:19 AM

She's Amy Adams with half the talent and none of the warmth...

by Anonymousreply 30January 23, 2025 6:55 AM

I like her performance as Celia Foote in "The Help"- an otherwise crappy (pie) movie. It's very broad but she's darling with lots of warmth and vulernability. I love "Zero Dark Thirty" and she's decent in it....but I always felt that role would have benefited from a more cerebral actress. AWFUL in Crimson Peak- it's camp but not the good kind. And I saw "The Heiress" on Broadway and yes- she was pretty bad. So: can't do period, can't do accents. Other weird rumors about her? For a long time she was said to have an unusually close 'friendship' with actress Jessica Wexler- they were in the same Juilliard class and attended lots of events together for years afterwards. She got a full ride scholarship to Juilliard paid for by Robin Williams. Her big break came with the play 'Salome' as Al Pacino was looking for an 'unknown'. Her sister struggled with addiction and eventually committed suicide. Looks gaunt in the face with thinning hair she struggles to hide because she's vegan. Definitely NOT a nepo baby- my fave Chastain fact! That's all I got.

by Anonymousreply 31January 23, 2025 7:42 AM

I love Zero Dark Thirty. Great film. She was very good in Molly's Game.

by Anonymousreply 32January 23, 2025 8:28 AM

She has a soap opera name. It could work for either a character on one or an actress on one.

by Anonymousreply 33January 23, 2025 9:48 AM

She has the same problem Anne Hathaway has: there are few moments where it’s not obvious that she’s acting. Too arch and mannered.

by Anonymousreply 34January 23, 2025 10:47 AM

Something fake about her…

by Anonymousreply 35January 23, 2025 10:52 AM

R30 I don’t see any similarities between Chastain and Amy Adams other than they’re both equally forgettable.

by Anonymousreply 36January 23, 2025 10:55 AM

r19, I worked on the Bernard Rose project (which I don't think it's going to see the light of day-it's another Megapolis). She and BR got into a screaming match one day, sadly I wasn't there to see it.

by Anonymousreply 37January 23, 2025 11:16 AM

She’s been out there kissing fellers for free!

by Anonymousreply 38January 23, 2025 11:27 AM

r34 Mothers' Instinct stars Chastain and Hathaway but it is set in the repressed 50's/60's so their acting stiffness works

by Anonymousreply 39January 23, 2025 8:47 PM

He's not pretty enough to be an actress

by Anonymousreply 40January 23, 2025 8:53 PM

she is always soo secretive, like alot of skeletons in that closet.

by Anonymousreply 41January 24, 2025 9:59 AM

An abortion...

by Anonymousreply 42January 24, 2025 1:53 PM

[Quote] It’s as if the marriage never happened.

I’m shocked and scandalized that this immeasurably important historical fact has been memory-holed!

by Anonymousreply 43January 24, 2025 1:56 PM

Hopefully Trump will release the intelligence files on Jessica Chastain’s first marriage!

by Anonymousreply 44January 24, 2025 2:50 PM

Was it a 'green card' marriage OP?

by Anonymousreply 45January 24, 2025 2:57 PM

One theory is that she prefers juicy roles over working with the big directors and great movies.

by Anonymousreply 46January 25, 2025 10:52 AM

Almost three years and fewer than 50 posts.

By DL standards, that is totally gossip-free.

by Anonymousreply 47January 25, 2025 10:59 AM

She seems mega-ambitious and shady - think Jennifer Lawrence without the star power.

by Anonymousreply 48January 25, 2025 11:24 AM

Her latest movie "Dreams" just screened at the Berlin. Apparently she has some fairly graphic sex scenes and even gets raped at the end, This is more evidence that she might be trying to breaking away, even though that recent Hollywood Reporter interview seemed almost apologetic. Trying assure people that this isn't an irresponsible/exploitive/anti-immigration movie by spouting her political views and feminist takes on the material.

by Anonymousreply 49February 17, 2025 3:10 PM

I thought she was......you know.

by Anonymousreply 50February 17, 2025 3:17 PM

Professional critics mostly like "Dreams", but Letterboxd reviews are quite divisive.

It would be a disappointment if "Dreams" does not become massively controversial and dragged by certain groups. As well as Jessica called out for her perceived bad taste and hypocrisy.

I have no horse in this, I just enjoy discourse and debate - especially when it involves progressive Hollywood feminist types.

by Anonymousreply 51February 18, 2025 12:10 PM

^48 Grace Randolph once said that Jessica Chastain has never met a bandwagon she didn't want to jump on. I kind of agree.

by Anonymousreply 52February 19, 2025 1:24 PM

About ten years ago there was a thread on here that seemed to take forever to fill up that called her"superhet".

by Anonymousreply 53February 19, 2025 1:28 PM

Jessica Chastise?

Pass.

by Anonymousreply 54February 19, 2025 1:49 PM

She had a huge debut year and she's beautiful.
