Damn. Now that I'm firmly in my 40s, shit like this bothers me. I'm a minor Foo fan (huge Nirvana fan). This sucks.

Also, a hotel room in Colombia? Hmmm. I wonder what might have killed him.

by Anonymousreply 5March 26, 2022 3:23 AM

Dead in Bogota.

Hope he scored some hot, huge Colombian cock.

Moral of the story:

Don't be in a band with Dave Grohl.

by Anonymousreply 9March 26, 2022 3:25 AM

He had started looking like a blond Dave Grohl. Wonder if they were 'sharing DNA'?

by Anonymousreply 10March 26, 2022 3:27 AM

R7 in with the priorities.

by Anonymousreply 12March 26, 2022 3:29 AM

He just turned 50 less than a month ago.

Was he gay?

Tremendous talent and a big heart... what a shame... I feel awful.

by Anonymousreply 15March 26, 2022 3:30 AM

20 years ago he overdosed on heroin and was in a coma.

by Anonymousreply 16March 26, 2022 3:31 AM

He definitely had a junkie look to him, but seemed like a likable guy. Really too bad. Great drummer.

by Anonymousreply 17March 26, 2022 3:31 AM

Colombian coke? Sad

by Anonymousreply 18March 26, 2022 3:31 AM

How did he die at such a young age? Was it natural causes?

by Anonymousreply 19March 26, 2022 3:33 AM

They all just stared in that comedy horror movie where each band mate was murdered, this is too eerie! He was on Colbert a few weeks back & seemed fine.

by Anonymousreply 26March 26, 2022 3:39 AM

No! I loved his version of Andy Gibb's Shadow Dancing. Always thought it strange you never hear the biggest song of 1978 on oldies station. It was the best of their Gibb covers. Also enjoyed his Sister Christian.

Nice teeth and hair but I can't find a really flattering picture of him.

by Anonymousreply 72March 26, 2022 5:13 AM

It IS kind of common to die in a hotel room. Suicides do it to spare the family the grisly discovery and I guess drug and alcohol abuse spike when one is away from their family.

by Anonymousreply 77March 26, 2022 5:31 AM

My guesses would be OD based on past addiction history and a prior OD putting him in a coma for 2 weeks, next would be heart attack brought on by prior drug use. Sad. I don't think he killed himself, I think it was accidental.

by Anonymousreply 78March 26, 2022 5:38 AM

Oh shit. That's sad. He was a great drummer.

by Anonymousreply 79March 26, 2022 5:42 AM

by Anonymousreply 82March 26, 2022 5:57 AM

If I was in a hotel room in Colombia it would definitely be cocaine to kill me

by Anonymousreply 83March 26, 2022 6:12 AM

I always thought he was kind of attractive and my eye was drawn to him in their videos but that changed when I sat near him at LAX about 15 years ago. He was sitting on the floor against a wall with a woman and they were both eating McDonalds and when the flight boarded, they just left the trash all over the floor. He was always just a pig to me after that.

by Anonymousreply 84March 26, 2022 6:31 AM

[quote] they were both eating McDonalds and when the flight boarded, they just left the trash all over the floor.

That alone made him deserving of an early death.

by Anonymousreply 85March 26, 2022 6:34 AM

[quote] they just left the trash all over the floor.

Rich trashy people need servants to clean up after their bad behaviour.

by Anonymousreply 86March 26, 2022 6:40 AM

Drugs, drugs, drugs. I met the band backstage in high school, and all the guys were awesome. Taylor was nowhere to be found…not too long after he’s doing a stint in rehab.

by Anonymousreply 87March 26, 2022 7:19 AM

In school, in a physiology class, I remember learning that drug users systems reach of physiological stasis, a steady state with the amount of drugs they’re taking and their vitals (heart beat, blood pressure) compensate and acclimatize. But when they leave the place where they usually do drugs, that stasis is gone and they’re prone to bigger changes in their vitals. So they’re using the same amount of drugs, but because they’re in a hotel room, their hearts and other vitals don’t compensate and they end up ODing on what’s normally their regular dose. And that’s why rockstars always OD on the road in hotels.

by Anonymousreply 88March 26, 2022 7:37 AM

i immediately think, covid. But there's no mention of a cause.

by Anonymousreply 89March 26, 2022 7:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 99March 26, 2022 9:30 AM

The Andy Samberg video isn’t funny on a literal level, but on a “I can’t believe how stupid this is” level it’s pretty funny. Or maybe I’m just really tired.

by Anonymousreply 100March 26, 2022 9:41 AM

I laughed, R100.

But I have a secret 13 year old straight loser sense of humor that laughs at stupid thing like that skit.

by Anonymousreply 101March 26, 2022 9:52 AM

by Anonymousreply 103March 26, 2022 10:10 AM

On a related note, is Dave Grohl a known booze bag? He’s looking very bloated and dissipated these days.

by Anonymousreply 104March 26, 2022 10:13 AM

An acknowledged drug user and rock drummer died on tour in Columbia? Must be the Covid vaccine!

by Anonymousreply 105March 26, 2022 10:14 AM

by Anonymousreply 106March 26, 2022 10:15 AM

by Anonymousreply 107March 26, 2022 10:18 AM

Fentanyl. Too many deaths because of it. I see it every FN day.

by Anonymousreply 108March 26, 2022 10:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 109March 26, 2022 10:59 AM

by Anonymousreply 111March 26, 2022 11:16 AM

I think it a mixture of pills and booze. Accidental. Like Anna Nicole Smith etc

by Anonymousreply 112March 26, 2022 11:32 AM

He was in Colombia, he called complaining of chest pains. it was coke. Thread closed

by Anonymousreply 113March 26, 2022 11:37 AM

Rock star found dead in hotel room? I’m sure it wasn’t drug-related.

by Anonymousreply 114March 26, 2022 11:43 AM

R107 get used to it.

by Anonymousreply 115March 26, 2022 11:51 AM

Did anyone else first think 🤔 it was the kid from Hanson? But I don’t think they actually play music 🎶

by Anonymousreply 116March 26, 2022 12:00 PM

When a seemingly healthy man dies at age 50, there is a chance that it was drugs.

Place that man's body in a hotel room, the probability that it was drugs increases.

Place that hotel room in Bogita, Colombia, I'd say there's now a 76% chance it was drugs, namely cocaine.

Add to that mix the man is a rock star, and you're at 95% likely it was cocaine.

Finally, the fact that he struggled with addiction issues makes at very very close to 100% chance he died of a heart attack doing coke.

Under other circumstances, I would agree that cocaine laced fentanyl would be the culprit. But, coke is so cheap and plentiful in Bogita, that seems unlikely.

I had a couple of friends who vacationed there. They said cocaine there is like pot in Amsterdam. It doesn't get talked about too much in America due to the social stigma still attached to coke. I had to specifically ask my friends about it, they didn't offer up the information.

by Anonymousreply 117March 26, 2022 12:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 134March 26, 2022 1:15 PM

police said it may be drug related.

From what I read on the internet...Local reports said hotel staff called the emergency services after Hawkins suffered chest pains but he was already dead by the time medical responders arrived. Foo Fighters had been scheduled to play at a concert in the Colombian capital.

by Anonymousreply 135March 26, 2022 1:22 PM

I'd hate to hear that it was drug related, as he supposedly kicked that habit. Maybe his heart was damaged from years of drug use, and smoking, and his former life-style caught up to him.

by Anonymousreply 136March 26, 2022 1:28 PM

He was a good drummer. Too bad the music they made sucked so hard.

by Anonymousreply 137March 26, 2022 1:35 PM

Sad, but not surprising. Allegedly, he was a functional addict for many years, similar to Anthony Kiedis.

As soon as I heard, I thought of Jeff Porcaro, legendary drummer whose heart just gave out after years of coke abuse. IIRC, there were drugs in his system, but not a fatal amount. To the ME's credit the autopsy report was released and was quite thorough.

It will be very interesting to see Dave Grohl's reaction in the next few days, and how industry people, esp. session musicans react.

by Anonymousreply 138March 26, 2022 1:36 PM

R40 Such an unfunny clip. Who came up with that crap?

by Anonymousreply 142March 26, 2022 1:57 PM

In some photos he's just....so hot. And I say that as someone who is generally not a fan of long hair. And with a very childlike, happy look, which just enhanced the hotness.

He seemed like a sweet guy.

by Anonymousreply 159March 26, 2022 3:06 PM

I read Wikipedia last night and they had heroin overdose as cause of death. Not sure if true or not obviously.

It’s sad that generation of musicians are going too soon. Just the other day Black Hole Sun came on I thought of Chris Cornell and it transported me back to teen years listening to it. Layne Staley was another favorite when I was growing up and obviously Cobain. Shannon Hoon also died tragically. DJ Am was another one that was gone too soon.

If it WAS heron, dollars to donuts it was cut with fentanyl. He was clearly an experienced drug user, and was likely careful with amounts. of opiates But with Fent that doesn't matter. There is a very small difference in the amount that gets you high and the amount that kills you.

I'm still thinking it was more likely coke. I think maybe he was used to lower quality road coke. Maybe the shit in Bogota was too pure, and and he over estimated the amount he could take.

by Anonymousreply 164March 26, 2022 3:18 PM

I had no clue they did an entire Bee Gees cover album. I think I’ve heard a few songs here and there, but not all of them. The Chili Peppers and Frusciante also cover some Bee Gees, I think How Deep is Your Love is one.

Probably, R185. Way too early for a tox screen to be back.

I know someone with a similar story, R183. Coke use earlier in life can really damage the heart, along with smoking, ODs seem more common in 50s with that history. In Columbia hard to imagine it did not involve coke and chest pains are another big clue. Sad. He had a history with heroin and pills too, but in Columbia Oskam's razor suggests coke. Narcan only works re: opiates.

R188, totally unfair. I am not a big Foo fan, but comparing any band to Nickelback, who, with Creed, are far and away the worst "major" band of all time - better come with receipts. Meaning, not one good song.

Foo's first album is packed with not just good songs, but great songs. Check out I'll Stick Around if you don't believe me.

It's been hit or miss since then.

The songs are actually quite good, but Dave isn't all that compelling as a frontman. He's totally serviceable. Likable. But not compelling. Hell, from clips of seeing Taylor sing? Dave should have stayed behind the kit and let Taylor lead.

As a musician myself, another musician death hits hard. Good looking, talented man gone too soon. He chose the ‘live fast, die hard’ rock n’ roll lifestyle. Even Brian Wilson wrote something on his page about him. He was obviously well respected in the music industry.

by Anonymousreply 211March 26, 2022 6:02 PM

R88 Interesting, but I’m curious that with rock stars traveling so much, do they have a usual place to do drugs? Seems like hotel rooms would be one of the places they usually take drugs.

by Anonymousreply 212March 26, 2022 7:03 PM

I visited Columbia 10 years ago, and the cocaine was amazingly pure. You could even sleep well after taking it. It makes me think that he took something else.

by Anonymousreply 213March 26, 2022 7:07 PM

[quote] In school, in a physiology class, I remember learning that drug users systems reach of physiological stasis, a steady state with the amount of drugs they’re taking and their vitals (heart beat, blood pressure) compensate and acclimatize.

IMO, this doesn't make sense. I can understand altitudes (airplane) affecting how your body processes drugs. But simply being in a hotel room shouldn't affect how much you can handle.

I thought addicted musicians were typically prescribed opiates to avoid the buying/quality/safety issue and so it could be carried across borders. But, playing festivals on the weekends left a lot of downtime in between for parties or solo use.

by Anonymousreply 217March 26, 2022 7:23 PM

He had that very thin, wiry frame that opiate addicts seem to have.

Although a stimulant, cocaine doesn’t seem to keep people thin, interestingly.

[quote] Definitely not a Foo fan (they're basically the American Nickleback) but I absolutely am a Taylor fan

Agreed. I didn’t really like Foo Fighters. People who hated, say, The Eagles and Toto, love them which is super funny as FFs sound is just as slick but with poorer musicianship. FFs are more akin to Matchbox 20 than Nirvana, but Dave and Taylor had so much positive energy they made their music seem harder than it is.

I’m not r88, but for instance the amount of stress someone experiences has a direct on hormones such as cortisol. Cortisol affects glucose levels, blood sugar, tissue repair, metabolism and even your fight-or-flight responses. It makes sense that as being in the road, in a hotel alone/with a hooker as opposed to tucked up in your own bed, would affect your hormonal levels and thus how a drug would react in your blood.

"White powder 'similar to cocaine', and hallucinogens, were allegedly found in the five-star Casa Medina hotel room of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, who has died aged 50.

Well-known Colombian journalist Luis Carlos Velez, the Bogota-based director of radio station FM, claimed earlier today that a police officer who entered Hawkins' room had told prosecutors he saw a 'cocaine-like' white powder.

Meanwhile, respected Colombian newspaper El Tiempo said a confidential report it had been informed about pointed to hallucinogens - mind-altering drugs that can include LSD - being found inside the hotel room.

Velez added: 'In the room, Colombian authorities found an empty beer can, an opened bottle of vodka, a Coca-Cola bottle and some other articles which are being analysed by authorities."

For cocaine, yes, you can be aware enough to call for help.

Cocaine makes the most sense, considering he was in Colombia. Sounds like he had more than one drug of choice. Doesn't make sense to be in Colombia and not buy cocaine there (if you're a polysubstance abuser).

Narcan might have helped with part of the OD, surprised no one was assigned to babysit him with it close at hand since he had been relapsing for months, at least and they were contracted for such big shows.

R286, if the toxicology tests came back this fast, I'd expect to see something about the identities of the guests. I'm not CIA, but if we don't see info about them, there's something going on behind the scenes.

Another thing, and I'm not LE, but I'm immersed in The Rolling Stones's history, if the touring party can get the fuck out of the country they needed to do it last night. I'm not saying Colombia is a kangaroo court kind of place (living here in The Colonies there are plenty of kangaroos to go around), but if I held an American passport and I heard about Taylor's death my ass would be on an Avianca 777 to LAX faster than you can say ay corumba, or however it's pronounced.

If I was still a guest at Heartbreak Hotel, I'd be waiting for the knock at the door wh. reveals uniforms and badges on the other side. I wonder what if anything the American Embassy is doing about this, as in showing a concern for getting those who clearly have no involvement back home, or offering some kind of assistance.

by Anonymousreply 293March 27, 2022 2:21 AM

He was obviously partying with the guys on the tour, the crew probably. The guys in the crew are usually the guys who score drugs for the band. I once met a guy who worked for bands and he said he used to score and hide drugs for a famous rock star. The mgmt etc would be watching the lead singer like a hawk etc but they could never figure out where he got the drugs from.

by Anonymousreply 294March 27, 2022 2:23 AM

He seemed like a nice guy. Very sad.

I was always "meh" about Nirvana and Foo Fighters. But Dave Grohl really IS that good of a guy so always wanted him and his projects to do well - which they obviously have to a huge degree.

by Anonymousreply 295March 27, 2022 2:26 AM

omg who the fuck takes 10 drugs? He must have a death wish.

by Anonymousreply 296March 27, 2022 2:33 AM

I thought benzodiazepines were opiates?

by Anonymousreply 297March 27, 2022 2:37 AM

Probably multiple rx drugs, including an anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, maybe even something like Viagra mixed in there. He was 50, so maybe even acid reflux meds, etc.

Cocaine is probable.

Not hard to add up to 10 drugs, unfortunately.

by Anonymousreply 298March 27, 2022 2:37 AM

His bandmates must feel terrible. I pity the Foos.

by Anonymousreply 308March 27, 2022 4:01 AM

by Anonymousreply 309March 27, 2022 4:07 AM

Likely overdose . Addicts hide their addictions — doesn’t matter if looked good a few days ago

by Anonymousreply 310March 27, 2022 4:11 AM

R264, that’s such an incredibly dumb statement. Heroin is an opioid, that alone could kill him. Add is 9 other substances and I would be shocked if he didn’t die.

by Anonymousreply 311March 27, 2022 4:19 AM

About 8 drugs found in his body. I guess the big question is how did this cesspool of dope live this long?

by Anonymousreply 312March 27, 2022 5:20 AM

R283, I'd forgotten about Skinny Puppy--they were regulars at my local club in the 80s, so I guess I must've seen Dave Grohl.

I was into different music by the time the Foo Fighters came along, but whenever they turned up, Taylor Hawkins stood out. I guess it's the blond hair/boyish look. Not my type, but very charismatic.

by Anonymousreply 313March 27, 2022 5:29 AM

It's tempting to simply shrug it off and mutter "junkie" when someone suffers a drug-induced/related death.. But drug addicts are always, without exception, self-medicating. They are in mental anguish, with unresolved issues and anxiety.

Very sad.

by Anonymousreply 338March 27, 2022 1:07 PM

I don't understand, regarding his heart. It's fucking huge. I mean, that doesn't happen overnight right?

How did he pass his medicals?

by Anonymousreply 339March 27, 2022 1:18 PM

He definitely knew he had heart problems. You have to go for medical exams for tours like that, for insurance purposes...

by Anonymousreply 340March 27, 2022 1:34 PM

There's something else that is known to give an enlarged heart too, but they won't dare mention that.

by Anonymousreply 341March 27, 2022 2:54 PM

Cocaine, in concentrations commonly sold on the street, causes the abnormal buildup of primitive proteins in heart muscle -- a process causing heart enlargement that can ultimately lead to sudden death

by Anonymousreply 342March 27, 2022 3:23 PM

What are you insinuating, R341? Do you suspect Taylor died from learning the true meaning of Christmas?

by Anonymousreply 343March 27, 2022 3:24 PM

Grohl has huge nostrils👃

by Anonymousreply 344March 27, 2022 3:33 PM

The urine test showed 10 substances in his body including heroin+ they also found hallucigenics and a "powder" in his room. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 345March 27, 2022 3:41 PM

r333 Hawkins should never have been on tour. I understand he's an adult, but putting him in that situation, then allowing it to go on bugs the fuck out of me. Hawkins was a great drummer, but he was a session/concert player. That's why I posted upthread about being interested in the fallout reaction from musicians in the next few weeks. Most will probably keep their mouths shut since it's a difficult industry these days. Lifers like John Lowery get work by discretion, but it will be interesting if blind items start appearing from industry leaks. Say what you want about RHCP, and you can say a lot (poor Josh), but IIRC they canceled dates in Australia and pulled Kiedis back from the brink when he OD'd there.

Grohl is a notorious anal control freak-he didn't want a bandmate, he wanted a contract player. Fair enough, but you should at least have a contingency plan if he's a functional addict who's rapidly deteriorating. And maybe talk to all the OGs you like to IG starfuck about how to manage an addict bandmate on tour, cause by the sounds of things a lot of unwritten rules were broken. Oh, and take an honest look in the mirror, because you don't look so good yourself these days.

by Anonymousreply 346March 27, 2022 3:42 PM

Grohl has a lot of hair and he does look puffy. My friend and I watched 666 a few weeks ago and his eye bags are really something

by Anonymousreply 347March 27, 2022 3:43 PM

If the band knew about his relapse, then they should have assigned him a handler, a minder on tour to watch over him.

by Anonymousreply 348March 27, 2022 3:44 PM

I wonder if their wives were allowed on tour. They would have been able to watch over them at least. Unless they have substance issues as well.

by Anonymousreply 349March 27, 2022 3:47 PM

I’m really surprised about the amount and range of drugs he was doing

by Anonymousreply 350March 27, 2022 3:49 PM

He was on antidepressants too, so it sounds like he was self-medicating poor guy

by Anonymousreply 351March 27, 2022 3:51 PM

He seems like the type of guy who couldn't be comfortable in his own skin sober, always gotta be on something.

by Anonymousreply 352March 27, 2022 3:57 PM

It's a grueling tour too. they are in a different country every other day.

by Anonymousreply 353March 27, 2022 3:58 PM

Agreed, R346. The FF have earned millions over the years and didn't need to do another tour right now if one of them was suffering.

Especially if your bandmate has a spouse and minor children, everyone should be thinking of mental and physical health first.

Now, of course, it's too late.

by Anonymousreply 354March 27, 2022 4:19 PM

Greedy Grohl

by Anonymousreply 355March 27, 2022 4:21 PM

Anybody know if the band is back in the states yet? Or still in Colombia?

by Anonymousreply 356March 27, 2022 4:24 PM

Not sure if it's greed but Dave himself has said that he's a person who cannot be idle. he has to be doing something all the time, that's why he wrote his autobio in the pandemic and made the movie.

He likes to tour and play concerts. a lot of them and I think Pat Smear quit the band the first time coz it was just the same 20 songs over and over again. He got sick of it and didn't want to do it any more.

by Anonymousreply 357March 27, 2022 4:27 PM

I wonder if his family is having their own doctor do the autopsy as well.

by Anonymousreply 358March 27, 2022 4:31 PM

Wait...so let me get this straight......

So, there were 10 drugs found in his system?

Ten, like between nine and eleven?

Are the number the same in Colombia?

by Anonymousreply 359March 27, 2022 4:33 PM

Maybe he really wasn't there, but was a projected hologram?

by Anonymousreply 360March 27, 2022 4:34 PM

“Colombia’s National State Prosecution Service can confirm the following after the initial autopsy on the body of Taylor Hawkins.

"That in the toxicology test on Taylor Hawkins’ urine ten types of substances were preliminarily found, including marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids.

"The National Institute of Forensic Medicine is continuing its medical studies to be able to completely clarify the facts that led to Taylor Hawkins death.

"Colombia’s National State Prosecution Service will continue with its investigation and reveal the results obtained as part of this investigation as appropriate."

by Anonymousreply 361March 27, 2022 4:35 PM

wow I'm really surprised this is all being revealed in such a speedy manner!

by Anonymousreply 362March 27, 2022 4:35 PM

In reading about these Gen X musicians who are dying early (Cornell, Weiland, Bennington, Nowell, Cobain, DJ AM etc... Staley being the exception) they are all from broken homes that seemed to trigger a spiral. Some with sketchy parenting. Weiland and Bennington were also victims of sexual abuse (not family). I’m guessing Taylor fit into one of these categories.

Sort of disappointing to see that Grohl pretty much turned a blind eye to Taylor’s addiction problems.

by Anonymousreply 363March 27, 2022 4:36 PM

It sounds like Grohl might be better off as a solo artist who employs session musicians. That way, he can tour whenever he wants and just replace people if they're burning out.

by Anonymousreply 364March 27, 2022 4:36 PM

Grohl Has not made any comments he must be completely wrecked

by Anonymousreply 365March 27, 2022 4:38 PM

I wonder if any of the band members did drugs with him...

by Anonymousreply 366March 27, 2022 4:39 PM

In the documentary Back and Forth, dave told taylor (after his drug OD) that he wasn't gonna be a cop or his dad. but "I don't want you to die, you're like my brother"

by Anonymousreply 367March 27, 2022 4:42 PM

However, the fact that HE (reportingly) contacted the hotel staff to get him help for his chest pains makes me wonder. I don't think we're talking a speedball (i.e., Belushi, Farley)

We shall see.

by Anonymousreply 370March 27, 2022 4:50 PM

If you had 10 different substances in your system at once, you either intentionally killed yourself or you had been on drugs for so many years that you had to keep adding stuff because you weren’t getting the same high.

by Anonymousreply 371March 27, 2022 4:51 PM

R330 I'm not sure—as far as I can tell, the Courtney/Dave feud is more or less over these days though. I remember hearing an interview with Courtney where she said that she met Pat in LA while he was working at Tower Records, and that they both rode the bus together. She is the reason Pat ever ended up playing in Nirvana, and, consequently, the Foo Fighters.

Krist Novoselic is pretty much unheard from.

I saw Grohl on Hot Ones, where the guest eats hot sauces that get progressively hotter & hotter. Dave made a big deal out of drinking alcohol & getting the host to drink. It wasn't even something Dave was shilling. Maybe he is an alcoholic.

by Anonymousreply 375March 27, 2022 5:48 PM

R363, Taylor grew up in Laguna Beach with both parents, who bought him a drum kit when he was 10. He also says Grohl has it too and drinks to deal with it – so they were probably enabling each other.

by Anonymousreply 383March 27, 2022 7:12 PM

Here’s one article

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 384March 27, 2022 7:14 PM

The RS article was kind of sad. He certainly hero worships Grohl but doesn’t have much confidence in his own ability and talent. Performing seems to have made him crazy. I wonder if his drug use ramped up again after the Covid pause? After 28 years of touring, he finally got a break, but then was thrown back into the world of pressure and performance.

by Anonymousreply 385March 27, 2022 7:51 PM

Surely he had enough money after all those years to quit touring. He could have offered to stay in FF as a songwriter and studio musician or left the band entirely.

by Anonymousreply 386March 27, 2022 8:04 PM

In the RS article, seemed like he was doing better "on pause" than being on tour. He dodged the question of whether he was sober now. He also refers to drinking as just some alcohol (with regard to Dave).

Yes, he did seem to have hero worship over Dave. But at one point, he did challenge Dave and then Dave put him in his place.

by Anonymousreply 387March 27, 2022 8:06 PM

He forced himself out on tour so as not to disappoint Dave and then OD'd from the pressure.

Now Dave is REALLY disappointed.

by Anonymousreply 388March 27, 2022 8:09 PM

Two things:

1) For most famous artists there comes a point when they're no longer on stage for the money — they're there for the sheer adoration. Talk about a drug.

2) As for assigning TH a babysitter: You really think that diva, they all are, was going to have someone tell him what to do and when to go to bed?

by Anonymousreply 389March 27, 2022 8:21 PM

R384, that is kind of a sad article now that he’s gone. It heavily implies that mom had issues, which sadly fits the pattern with these guys. His sister must be devastated.

by Anonymousreply 390March 27, 2022 8:21 PM

I do wonder if it will come out who the "guests" he was entertaining were and if they will face any charges. He might have died anyway but Narcan could have helped the opiate part of the OD. Maybe if a doctor had been summoned a bit earlier he could have been hospitalized and saved.

This was not a one time slip, he was pre-gaming HARD with a big show that night.

Maybe Taylor did what he wanted despite everyone asking him to stop touring and/or take care of himself. As stated above, at least he died doing what he loved. I hope I die at my desk and those fuckers will have to cart me out and fumigate.

by Anonymousreply 407March 27, 2022 9:10 PM

Thanks, R401, have always just gotten a dark vibe from him.

Dave has looked uwell for a while.

If every band with a junkie or drunk in it stopped touring there would not be much live music.

He died doing what he loved, partying in a foreign hotel room, possibly with "paid" company?

by Anonymousreply 408March 27, 2022 9:11 PM

I don't think the wives go on tour. There is a "What Stays in Vegas"-type agreement about the groupies and such.

by Anonymousreply 409March 27, 2022 9:13 PM

R404, there are 3 young kids. She could not leave them to tour with him. Junkie's gonna do what a junkie's gonna do.

by Anonymousreply 410March 27, 2022 9:21 PM

Hopefully Dave will treat this as a wake up call. He looks terrible these days (glug glug.)

by Anonymousreply 411March 27, 2022 9:22 PM

I don't think anyone in the band or his wife wanted him to stop touring, there are staggering amounts of money at stake, they headline large festivals.

He has been a junkie for decades, this was not some sudden, new, acute emergency. And remember, Grohl shattered his leg and got back up on the stage.

by Anonymousreply 412March 27, 2022 9:23 PM

In the RS article he says his doctor warned him of an enlarged heart but he lies and says it is due to excessive exercising.

[quote]"That in the toxicology test on Taylor Hawkins’ urine ten types of substances were preliminarily found, including marijuana, tricyclic antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and opioids.

I don't know why you bitches are clutching your pearls about TEN substances. That could include a lot of prescription or OTC medications. For example, a 50-year-old bashing the drums every night probably needed Advil. The opioids could have been prescribed. Lots of people are on Klonopin and antidepressants. And pardon me if I'm not shocked that a rock star smoked pot.

You don't mix opiates and benzos. Heroin is also an opioid. There was a white powder in his room.

Taylor sounds very strung out / almost disoriented in that RS interview.

If I had been that interviewer, my eyebrows would have been raised to the heavens the entire interview.

by Anonymousreply 420March 27, 2022 9:49 PM

10 substances seems like an alarming number but my non rock star ass is sitting on my couch with at least 4 maybe 5 in my system.

by Anonymousreply 421March 27, 2022 9:50 PM

Thanks, R419. So he knew he was on borrowed time. The link about the stage manager dying suddenly at only 45 is also suss as hell. Thought they were the designated babysitter with the Narcan, typically, on tour.

Methinks the heavily pushed narrative of family, nice guys, etc, was a bit of a deflection, or incomplete.

Lots of death around Grohl and Smear.

Well, R421, if you have a grossly enlarged heart, or maybe even if you don't, you might want to skip speedballing. Tough on the ticker. Has killed a lot of famous folks, many of whom were not middle aged, like River Phoenix.

Exactly. Also, Taylor said he dreamed of performing in a stadium like Queen did. I saw an interview of David Chase (Sopranos). The interviewer (Michael Imperioli) was talking about how James Gandolfini hated the fame and Chase said: then why be an actor?

Also, from the start, they were probably at least drunk as they stepped onstage. Hence, it was a ritual that they were used to and comfortable with.

One drug that was off-limits (on stage), for Taylor, was marijuana, only because it fucked up his timing (drumming).

by Anonymousreply 428March 27, 2022 10:22 PM

"Pat Smear is such an unfortunate name."

Right??? It's almost like a punk rocker just, you know, made it up or something.

by Anonymousreply 429March 27, 2022 10:29 PM

Booze actually increases anxiety in some people.

And / or maybe the stage fright was less an issue than the ritual of getting fucked up together.

by Anonymousreply 431March 27, 2022 10:34 PM

I not even going to ask for nudes on him, because he seems the type to piss in a stall so no one sees his dick.

by Anonymousreply 449March 28, 2022 2:18 AM

by Anonymousreply 451March 28, 2022 3:52 AM

Thanks for the link to the Rolling Stone piece. The band dynamics are kind of how I expected, it is not a democracy. Hawkins clearly had put a lot of thought into their dynamic and how to make it work for him. Bands are hard, wasn't it Metallica who took a shrink on tour with them? Wonder what tensions the addiction was causing esp after the cancelled gig and rumored hospitalization of Hawkins in IL on way to UAE? For someone who has control issues and with so much on the line, not surprising maybe that Grohl looks like he has been hitting the bottle hard. The comment about the enlarged heart and the drinking a huge amount of water, wonder what that was about?

by Anonymousreply 452March 28, 2022 5:29 AM

Yeah, Metallica had a group psychiatrist or psychologist. It's documented in "Some Kind of Monster." James Hetfield went back into rehab in 2019, canceling a tour.

History of the Eagles is also interesting b/c of the band member dynamics, Joe Walsh being the alcoholic contract player, etc.

by Anonymousreply 453March 28, 2022 5:43 AM

Does Henley -still- treat Walsh like a bit contract player, even all this time after Frey's death?

by Anonymousreply 454March 28, 2022 7:56 AM

Life is shit.

Even if you're rich, people want to be out of it as much as possible to get through life.

Antidepressants, Valium, illegal drugs, booze - whatever to get through the horror show.

by Anonymousreply 455March 28, 2022 9:38 AM

by Anonymousreply 456March 28, 2022 11:33 AM

by Anonymousreply 457March 28, 2022 3:11 PM

by Anonymousreply 458March 28, 2022 3:25 PM

Totally. With that oversized rockstar heart, that slap would definitely have finished him off.

by Anonymousreply 459March 28, 2022 3:39 PM

[quote] Does Henley -still- treat Walsh like a bit contract player, even all this time after Frey's death?

Not sure, but I'd guess that yes, Walsh is still a contract player. It's not just "treatment," it was a legal fact, I think. As asshole-ish as Henley & Frey appeared in the History of the Eagles, I could understand why they felt entitled to more money & set up the financial structure accordingly.

There was one hilarious line in the documentary. Randy Meisner said he was tired of singing Take It to the Limit and didn't want to sing it any more. Apparently, it's a taxing, vocally, song to sing. Frey got mad and said, "Do you think I like singing Peaceful Easy Feeling every night?"

Anyway, fans love Take It to the Limit and Frey was right to push the issue.

by Anonymousreply 460March 28, 2022 5:11 PM

I get it r460, re Henley and Frey's superiority complex. They founded the band, wrote most of the songs, and kept the whole train going throughout the 70s.

These days though Walsh is a major rock industry star and player in his own right. He's besties (brother-in-law) of Ringo and hangs with Sir Paul regularly, he and his wife are big mainstays on the A-list celebrity scene since he sobered up permanently and had all of that (very good, imo) work done on himself. That may be why Henley seems a bit more respectful towards him when discussing him in interviews.

by Anonymousreply 461March 28, 2022 7:46 PM

Will band survive this? The anti-VAX or’s are reveling in this. They resent the Foo Fighters for their vaccine requirement

by Anonymousreply 462March 28, 2022 9:45 PM

That's so fucking stupid. The anti-vaxxers can go fuck themselves, especially the ones inexplicably hanging out on a gay gossip forum. They are even dumber than the Foo Fighters' very basic dad-rock song structures.

If Foo Fighters disband after this, it's because Dave is too worn-out, tired and drunk to start all over again with a new drummer. Or maybe they'll put out 10 more albums that all sound pretty much the same, none of which I will buy or download.

From Sir Paul (Facebook and Twitter)

Paul McCartney

Taylor’s sudden death came as a shock to me and the people who knew and loved him. Not only was he a GREAT drummer but his personality was big and shiny and will be sorely missed by all who were lucky to live and work alongside him.

I was asked by the Foo Fighters to play on one of their tracks. It turned out that they wanted me to play drums! - on one of Taylor’s songs. This request came from a group with TWO amazing drummers! It was an incredible session and cemented my relationship with Taylor and the guys. Later they asked if I would induct them into the Rock and Rock Hall of Fame. I sang with them on 'Get Back'. Taylor provided a powerhouse drum part. I’ll never forget that night. All of which made it much more of a desperately sad shock to hear he had died. So thanks Taylor for sharing some glorious minutes with me. You were a true Rock and Roll hero and will always remain in my heart.

God bless his family and band - Love Paul X

Cancelling the tour creates lots of work for those involved in its creation and ongoing day to day running. Millions of dollars lost, not only refunding tickets, but the hotel reservations, air travel (private chartered plane or commercial). It's a fucking nightmare.

I can't understand why there was nobody assigned to look after a known addict on a trip to fucking Colombia. If I was in Colombia I'd inquire about cocaine discreetly, and I don't even use it. Nobody thought to make sure Taylor stayed on the straight and narrow? It doesn't matter if Taylor liked it or not. Touring is about money, lots and lots of money. And when one weak link in the chain breaks, this is what happens.

The thing about his chest pains is that pure cocaine is mega potent. A friend I worked with in 1980 told me she was in Colorado and a fellow laid out some teeny lines. She thought he was just stingy until she inhaled it. It was pure. It blew her mind. I'm guess Taylor chopped up some runway threshold lines and just got down there and did a superhero job of inhaling it. Cue chest pains.

by Anonymousreply 481March 30, 2022 5:02 PM

Was he related to Screaming Jay Hawkins?

by Anonymousreply 482March 30, 2022 5:21 PM

I'm thinking Dave might feel some amount of guilt- it's clear from the Rolling Stone article that Taylor wasn't happy touring.

Also, he must feel even worse if they partied together. That he participated in doing the things with Taylor that eventually killed him.

Poor Dave.

by Anonymousreply 483March 30, 2022 5:26 PM

Eh, Dave seems like a bit of a prick, actually. I don’t feel sorry for him. I feel sorry for Taylor’s kids, though.

by Anonymousreply 484March 30, 2022 5:57 PM

r472 I think the poster was harsh, but I see his/her point. I'm sorry he's gone, and I don't wish anyone suffering, but OTOH I'm pissed that he had every chance available and didn't take it. He was a multi-millionaire rock star who could've afforded and accessed the best rehab and treatment options, and taken time off to utilize them. There have been literally tens of thousands of drug deaths in North America in this epidemic, of men in his age group alone. Greedy radical & religious activists have forced harm reduction policies down the throats of communities without a rehab option, creating a poverty industry and adding to the death toll. it’s even affected the life expectancy of North American men.

So many could've and would've if we had a proper 4 pillar public drug strategy. The death of someone by his own choices who didn't take anyone else out with him is low on my sympathy list these days. If that sounds cunty, so be it.

by Anonymousreply 485March 30, 2022 7:59 PM

R484 Really? I always got the notion that Dave was a pretty great guy. Easy going, fun, ect. I could be wrong, of course. Kurt, I think, could be unpleasant, especially when addiction took hold. But Dave I always liked.

by Anonymousreply 492March 31, 2022 12:58 AM

I found the Rolling Stone article upthread to be a really interesting look at the dynamic between Dave and Taylor. In the interview Taylor almost sounds like a cowed wife with a megawatt, narcissistic, controlling husband. And I'm a Dave Grohl fan. Taylor sounded like he was in a constant internal swirl around not being able to bring his own ideas, talent and touring (or not) desires to the table. He makes excuses over and over for Dave being the dominant force. I found it quite sad while I was reading. It felt like it was All Dave All The Time and Taylor was around to be Dave's court jester and companion. I have no doubt their relationship was deeper and much more complex than this, but that was my impression when I read the article.

by Anonymousreply 493March 31, 2022 8:25 AM

Dave came across in his autobiography as a boring kiss-arse.

I remember Courtney saying Kurt never liked Dave on Howard Stern.

by Anonymousreply 497March 31, 2022 12:26 PM

Knowing Hole lyric references makes you lame, not clever.

by Anonymousreply 498March 31, 2022 12:31 PM

I was surprised that DG named his kid Violet, a big hit for Hole. I thought he and CL hated one another.

I think Grohl's "nice guy" rep is pushed really hard. That interview with Taylor was sad. The FF are in essence DG and his backing band and I guess he made that clear, repeatedly, to Taylor. A lot of bands are like that and this one did pay very well. So, there's that.

by Anonymousreply 499March 31, 2022 3:09 PM

500!

by Anonymousreply 500March 31, 2022 3:28 PM

All the side projects are totally about D's ego, the "DGs" disco covers, Studio 666 where Grohl is "possessed" and kills all his bandmates, bit Freudian there, etc. Most of them seem to not care but Taylor liked the limelight too.

by Anonymousreply 501March 31, 2022 4:20 PM

From the RS article, it sounds like Hawkins did bring something to the table: the look of the concerts (lighting, effects, etc.). Hawkins was a Queen fan and had eclectic music tastes. I can see Grohl being stuck in a stripped-down, unplugged grunge aesthetic.

I've never seen a FF concert, so I don't know how spectacular the stage looked. I'm just basing this on what TH said in the RS interview. He's so self-effacing, that I would guess it's true that he upped the concert look.

by Anonymousreply 502March 31, 2022 6:11 PM

I went through a huge Queen phase about 10 years ago in which I became obsessed with their music. One of the things I liked about Taylor Hawkins was how much he loved Queen too. He seemed like such an unlikely Queen fan which made it cooler.

by Anonymousreply 503March 31, 2022 8:02 PM

Kurt didn't like Courtney either! Lol.

by Anonymousreply 504March 31, 2022 8:17 PM

Taylor was both visible and vocal at Foo shows and in interviews. And Dave was fine with that.

by Anonymousreply 505March 31, 2022 8:26 PM

by Anonymousreply 520April 23, 2022 9:30 AM

He's still dead, R520. You're right, it was all over the media and disappeared overnight.

by Anonymousreply 521April 23, 2022 9:43 AM

THE SLAP pushed Taylor’s death out of the headlines.

[quote] I was surprised that DG named his kid Violet, a big hit for Hole. I thought he and CL hated one another. I think Grohl's "nice guy" rep is pushed really hard.

Yeah, something about Grohl seems so fake and forced and desperate to please, which cannot be said about Courtney whatever you think of her or believe about her.

Pet theory is that Court rejected Dave or mocked him or didn’t take him seriously as a Big Sexy Rockstar Man back in the day, and he never got over it. Narcissist males who are goofy and plain and boring never really can take it well when they realise women aren’t buying what they’re selling.

Imagine being so salty you write this⬇️ about your close friend’s widow to cash in.

Are we sure that song is about Courtney?

I’m not a huge fan of the song, but now that I’m really thinking about the lyrics, it seems more of a “trust your instincts about people— get away from them if they make you feel like shit” kind of song.

I have trouble picturing Dave and Courtney really being a part of each other’s lives to that degree.

by Anonymousreply 524April 23, 2022 10:54 AM

I really liked that song but it’s hard to listen to since I heard it’s about Courtney. Everyone involved is talented but I love that crazy bitch. She has no filter and I really admire people who are so genuine even when it’s messy. I love her music too.

Watch ‘Soaked In Bleach’ you’ll hate that borderline bitch for having Kurt whacked and getting away with it!

[quote]I think Grohl's "nice guy" rep is pushed really hard. Yeah, something about Grohl seems so fake and forced

He certainly came across as passive-aggressive in the Howard Stern interview snippet about Jakob Dylan. He talked big about the Foo Fighters giving more work to Rami than the Wallflowers did (true) and made a lot of vague, snickering remarks, but never came out and said what his issue with Jakob was.

[quote]Rami Jaffee seems gay.

Not that having a wife and kid means he isn't, but factor that in. He's a self-described "New York Jew" with a Moroccan parent, so maybe it's more about mannerisms? He doesn't set off my gaydar, but mine isn't highly calibrated, so...

by Anonymousreply 527April 25, 2022 2:10 AM

any details regarding where he's buried etc?

by Anonymousreply 528April 25, 2022 3:27 AM

was he cremated?

by Anonymousreply 529April 25, 2022 3:27 AM

Grohl has acted the same way re: other bands too.

by Anonymousreply 530April 25, 2022 3:36 AM

Grohl is kind of a bitch.

Now he’s a fat, bloated bitch.

by Anonymousreply 531April 25, 2022 5:46 AM

Still dead?

by Anonymousreply 532April 25, 2022 11:05 PM

[quote]Grohl has acted the same way re: other bands too.

Maybe Grohl should worry more about crafting songs that don't all sound the same and less on what more talented songwriters are doing.

by Anonymousreply 533April 26, 2022 4:13 AM

Sounds like he hated their brutal touring schedule.

I was just coming to post that r534. He seemed like a good guy who couldn't say no.

by Anonymousreply 535May 18, 2022 12:16 AM

In interviews, it was mentioned that Taylor pretty much worshipped Grohl and wouldn't contradict him.

by Anonymousreply 536May 18, 2022 1:04 AM

[quote]Rami Jaffee seems gay.

He may not be gay but he sure is a pussy.

by Anonymousreply 537May 18, 2022 1:07 AM

Wow, Cameron really stepped in it. Rolling Stone has long passed the point of respecting artists.

Check out the sagging face at r534

by Anonymousreply 540May 18, 2022 3:11 AM

Maybe his heart gave out, it was enlarged . And who knows how accurate a third world country is when they’re doing medical exams? He was supposedly addicted to exercise to give him e same feeling as the drugs. He seemed so genuine. Always loved him in interviews, really like a kid who was so happy to be there doing what he loved. He always crushed it singing Queen songs. Very sad. Yet we’re stuck with Kardashians and MAGAs and BLM shady fucks !

by Anonymousreply 541May 18, 2022 11:21 AM

Did they do a tribute to him at Glastonbury?

by Anonymousreply 542June 25, 2023 4:02 AM

As the Foo Fighters did not 'believe' in AIDS, do not think they were embrace vaccine damage.

I just want to say that Dave Grohl strikes me (especially in his mustachioed/dadbod/Oak Ridge Boys-looking Foo Fighters incarnation) as the type of guy who leaves carnage-level stink in the bathroom when he takes a shit. And he doesn't care who hears the sounds or smells the smell.

He just strikes me as that type of guy.

by Anonymousreply 544June 30, 2023 12:33 AM

So he died of heartbreak? I don't get it.

by Anonymousreply 545June 30, 2023 12:46 AM

Did they ever release an official tox report? All we heard was that preliminary report of the 11 or so substances, but it takes time for a true tox read.

by Anonymousreply 546June 30, 2023 1:06 AM

Must be a Heath Ledger stan.
