Lesser known awkward or tense talk show moments

starts about half way through the video - Richard Harris's second wife Ann Turkel talking a little too much about her stepson on The Tonight Show, Harris enters the scene, Carson can barely contain his glee "HALLO RICHARD!"

No link? Do you expect us to remember this random moment from tv history from 40 years ago?

Is that the Richard Harris son who became an actor, and whose credits include Mad Men?

Seth Meyers on The View last week for the first time in years. He was delightful and had them all laughing throughout the segment.

I imagine his tense exchange with Mrs. Domenech got him banned from The View during her tenure.

I could not find a link but somewhere around 1982-83 a very inebriated Helen Lawson grabbed Doc Severinson's trumpet and shoved it up her twat. She got the crowd back by playing 30 seconds of "Minnie the Moocher."

wait R1, you're a DLer, of course I do!

Madonna and Sandra Bernhard on Letterman, late 80s/early 90s. Madge and Sandy wore matching outfits, white t-shirts, denim shorts and boots, smoked cigars and annoyed the fuck out of Dave. At the end of interview, he said something like "One of these women will never appear on this show again."

by Anonymousreply 12March 25, 2022 10:32 PM

Madge and Sandy were either drunk or high as fuck during that appearance, R12.

And Sandra was never on the show again after that, R12. Dave blacklisted her. She started appearing on the Arsenio Hall Show.

Those glimpses into how “stars” or famous people really behaved are priceless. She sounded a little insane in the clip. Is there any doubt, she fucked the 18 yr old stepson? Madonna and Sandy were doing a bit and trying really hard to be outrageous. Ann Turkle real personality was in full display.

Nowadays. almost all famous people are groomed in PR and how to behave. Social Media also is scrubbed clean for craziness. Those Carson interviews were gems.

One of the most awkward talk-show interviews I've ever seen was with Steve Martin's then-wife, Victoria Tennant, in the late '80s. I can't remember the interviewer; he wasn't any of the big names. He asked her what I thought was a pretty innocuous question about her experience of first meeting Steve Martin. She calmly eviscerated him for asking something that was none of his business, when she was there to promote a film. The guy staggered through the rest of the interview.

by Anonymousreply 21March 25, 2022 11:38 PM

I'm sure they did, R20. Sandra even says in that clip that Madonna was a better lay than Sean. And Madonna's reaction (to me, at least) confirmed that Sandra wasn't making it up. Plus, the two of them were hanging out at lesbian bars in New York all summer. I really doubt they didn't do it at least once or twice. I don't think they were longtime lovers, though. Just friends.

Almost any talk show Howie Mandel goes on. He freaks out almost any time someone tries to touch him.

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2022 11:56 PM

Nobody watching an interview gives a shit about some film an actor is promoting. It’s all the little pieces of an interesting personality that would make me watch a film. Not some canned and lame promotion.

Ms Tennant sounds insufferable

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2022 11:58 PM

R14, that’s not true. I was a diehard viewer of Letterman’s NBC show and saw all of Sandra’s appearances. He didn’t blacklist her. When he moved to CBS though he rejiggered the show and dropped many of his regular guests like Sandra, Teri Garr, etc. It was too bad because he became less and less funny on CBS.

Sandra’s appearances on his show are listed on IMDB.

R18 Dali tossing and tugging at that anteater was disturbing. Lilian Gish was right! The poor animal was frightened. This is a very old clip, but if this happened today, the Zoo would be on the hook for treating an animal in such a cavalier way. Watching Dali toss the animal was, to me, a real downer.

by Anonymousreply 31March 26, 2022 1:50 AM

It was also tense and awkward, which was the assignment, R31.
