He claimed it was an original story, inspired by Parkland and Vegas shooting. But he was accused of using the story of Tom Mauser. Tom's son Daniel was killed in Columbine by Eric Harris. Later Tom became gun control activist, and he wrote a book about his son. He wrote about the meeting he had with Eric Harris' parents. I read the book and I watched the movie, and the movie is clearly about the meeting between Harrises and Mausers. Some random details are clearly taken straight from the book, but for some reasons Franz denied he ever read the book or even heard about meeting between parents of shooter and victim of Columbine.

Rumor is that, in Cabin In the Woods, he wasn't allowed to take his shirt off because his ripped body didn't match his nerdy character.
