What are our thoughts on Casey Affleck? Do we rate him as an actor and more importantly do we fancy him?

He convinced me in Gone Baby Gone, but I haven't seen much else.

He, his brother, Aaron Rogers, Brad Pitt, and so many others all have that smelly homeless look. The ones that park themselves in the median with signs. No thank you.

Has he been accused of creeping on teens? I know James Franco has. I thought the knock on C. Affleck was that he was directing a pseudo-documentary about Joaquin Phoenix and allowed/participated in a frat-like atmosphere that a female DP and a female producer objected to. It was 12-14 years ago, but it got exhumed when he was up for an Oscar more recently.

Anyway, I like him. He's a smart actor with interesting taste, and he's handled the "more famous sibling" problem by finding his own niche in challenging movies: Manchester by the Sea, Ain't Them Bodies Saints, A Ghost Story, Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, etc.

I also like that he doesn't issue groveling apologies that the typical Jezebel reader is going to say isn't enough anyway. He just says people are going to think what they want, and gets on with his career.

I'm so glad Manchester didn't have Matt Damon in the lead, which was a possibility at one time. The guy from A Quiet Place was attached as well, and I don't think that would have been as good either.

I don't know that much about Affleck's personal life, but when the hottest spotlight was on him, when he was nominated for all the awards in 2017 and there were people saying he should not win them because of his past, no other woman from his many films since I'm Still Here came forward to pile on. There was never a time when an avalanche of dirt would have been more likely. The power/influence of other #metoo offenders didn't keep allegations against them from snowballing. But I've seen no reports of bad behavior from Affleck later than 2008-10, when I'm Still Here was in production and post. Maybe he learned something.
