Los Angeles Residents Told By Police to Stop Wearing Jewelry in Public

[QUOTE]In LA, robberies are up 18%. Robberies with a firearm are up 44%. The suggestion came after thieves smashed the front window of a Beverly Hills jewelry store in broad daylight, stealing millions of dollars’ worth of goods.

The cops are correct. I live in LA and EVERYONE is showing off and living in a "look at meeeeeee" moment. It's fucking exhausting!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 1March 24, 2022 3:40 PM

LA is truly become a third-world shithole. Just like Rio. Where wealthy Cariocas carry their jewels in their purses, donning the bling inside the "safety" of the restaurant or other venue.

by Anonymousreply 2March 24, 2022 3:43 PM

Not like they smashed the window at a high end seller. Probably was an inside job.

by Anonymousreply 3March 24, 2022 3:45 PM

But these have always brought me luck!

LA isn't the only city who's having smash and grab crimes. We're in tough economic times. If you go to the city or in a busy area, you'd be dumb to wear a lot of expensive jewelry. It isn't the Met Gala.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2022 3:47 PM

If you needed to be told this, you didn't grow up in a city, nor in half the countryside of the US.

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2022 3:53 PM

I Pity the Fool that tries to take my bling!

res, it's happening in nyc too. I've been hearing about how unsafe the city is...I heard about an elderly lady whose diamond earrings were ripped off her earlobes just 1 block of the police station. Rich patrons were targeted and robbed at gunpoint at outdoor seating of high end restaurants. Just a few days ago an influencer on insta who flaunted his lifestyle on insta was shot twice in his hotel, the bad guys wanted his watch. If you have citizen app, you will never want to go out again.

Best to dress like a homeless person.

It doesn't concern me, I don't wear jewelry.

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2022 4:49 PM

These things come and go. Back in the 80s, they were stealing Rolex watches from men in LA. A well-known restauranteur was killed for his.

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2022 4:53 PM

Me don't wear no JEW elry

When exactly did it go, R11?

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2022 6:37 PM

No lady is sure at night.

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2022 6:43 PM

A lady reveals nothing.

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2022 6:54 PM

Costume jewelry isn't made to provoke desire, just astonishment at most. It must remain an ornament and an amusement.

The point of jewelry isn't to make a woman look rich but to adorn her; not the same thing.

by Anonymousreply 16March 24, 2022 7:03 PM

CIEL! MES BIJOUX!

**faints**

by Anonymousreply 17March 24, 2022 7:14 PM

In this day and age jewelry looks stupid. As stupid as wearing a fur coat or driving a Rolls Royce.

by Anonymousreply 18March 24, 2022 7:18 PM

Oh be quiet you ghastly antisemite!

The smash and grab story referenced in OP:

The police have a vested interested in making everyone feel as unsafe as possible. You truly cannot trust a single thing they say.

by Anonymousreply 23March 25, 2022 11:40 PM

*vested interest. More fear = more power and money for the police

by Anonymousreply 24March 25, 2022 11:42 PM

Dont shoot the messenger but my boss who is a wealthy older woman shops in Beverly Hills all the time blames this on all the "blacks" who have invaded the area ever since BLM marches and riots last year. She's actually afraid to go shopping there now. Yeah, it sounds racist. But in her defense, the percentage of black people in that neighbor hood was like maybe 1 in 50. Now it's like 20%. Like it's been discovered. Maestro's Steak House looks like it has the same racial make up as Rosco's Chicken and Waffles.

At the end of the day, I cant argue with her, crime had gone up. Used to be the safest place in Los Angeles. Robbery on those streets used to be very, very rare. Because lots of security no one would dare until recently.

by Anonymousreply 25March 25, 2022 11:57 PM

Next, the police will tell you to make yourself ugly so that you won't get raped raped, if you're not already ugly.

by Anonymousreply 26March 26, 2022 12:01 AM

Don’t wear jewelry because you’ll get robbed. Don’t look at anyone or you’ll get assaulted. Don’t have an expensive car. Don’t go out at night.Just stay home. Anything but put people in jail when they commit crimes.

People who wear jewelry are tacky.

by Anonymousreply 30March 26, 2022 3:32 AM

R25 that's happening all over the country in most wealthy enclaves of larger metropolitan areas. My friend's parents live in an affluent area near a larger midwestern city and large groups of young people are coming into the suburbs from the city and doing massive crime sweeps that only take a few minutes to execute. By the time the police get there they've vanished. Racist or not, the fact is that these groups are made up of young black juveniles committing the crimes for gang leaders in the cities (it has something to do with the police not being able to prosecute minors as aggressively as adults). My brother in law's sister had her expensive Audi stolen out of her garage (open) during the day, on a residential street in another wealthy midwestern suburb. The kid who stole it was 14 and sadly he was black. To be clear, this is not to detract from the massive amounts of crime committed by whites and other ethnicities, but there is currently a wave of aggressive criminal activity by younger black men that's occurred post-Floyd and other police atrocities.

by Anonymousreply 31March 26, 2022 10:09 AM

Yep, smash and grab is mostly a ghetto move. White guys tend to plan out their robbery keeping it low key or undercover as possible.

by Anonymousreply 32March 26, 2022 10:58 AM

It was that same angry mob of blacks that attacked Brendad Ickson.

by Anonymousreply 33March 26, 2022 11:05 AM

Angelenos need to leave their house with concealed guns, and shoot their attackers

It’s the only way to bring order to society in 2022

by Anonymousreply 34March 26, 2022 3:00 PM

Don't worry, r34, I never leave the house without my muff pistol.

by Anonymousreply 36March 26, 2022 3:16 PM

Defund the police, and send your sons and nephews to smash and grab, particularly affluent or Asian areas

All residents of these invasions, particularly Asian people, should carry semi automatic guns to shoot these thugs on sight

If the police won’t handle this societal breakdown, the only option is vigilanteism

by Anonymousreply 37March 26, 2022 3:33 PM

[quote]vigilanteism

Oh dear, r37.

by Anonymousreply 38March 26, 2022 3:46 PM

I recall staying in a hotel in Houston back in the '80s where there was a sign on the wall: Please don't leave valuables lying around to tempt our staff. Thank you.

by Anonymousreply 39March 26, 2022 4:13 PM

I know there's been a weird iphone stealing operation going down in Weho.

One of my good friends had it happen to him last weekend at whatever club took over Rage. The bartender told him it's been happening quite frequently.

The thieves are like magicians, I guess. Slip in, pick-pocket the phone, and get out.

by Anonymousreply 40March 26, 2022 5:49 PM

But I phones can be tracked, even when off (if one sets it up that way)

by Anonymousreply 41March 26, 2022 6:00 PM

Not only do I not wear jewelry, I don't have an iphone, r40. I'm good.

by Anonymousreply 42March 26, 2022 6:22 PM

What's sad about being black, R31?

by Anonymousreply 43March 26, 2022 6:49 PM

[QUOTE] I know there's been a weird iphone stealing operation going down in Weho.

There’s nothing weird about it.

by Anonymousreply 44March 27, 2022 2:07 PM

Can confirm Beverly Hills has gotten to be a black destination. I was shopping in Saks men’s store and I was The only white guy. I didn’t care that it was black guys but it was guys in their 20s that looked Like crips. They paid cash. No one pays cash.

by Anonymousreply 47March 28, 2022 2:22 AM

Funny you say that R47, Sacks in Beverly Hills is exactly one of the stores my boss was talking about. I have not personally been there since Covid, but it used to be mostly White, Asian, Persian, Jewish, maybe one or two black people. She claims it's all black now. I kind of didn't believe her but your comment about paying in cash and looking like gang members explains a lot.

by Anonymousreply 48March 28, 2022 7:07 AM

That's r47's only post....

by Anonymousreply 49March 29, 2022 2:52 PM

So what, R49?

by Anonymousreply 50April 22, 2022 2:58 PM

Sounds like pretty good advice to me.

by Anonymousreply 51April 22, 2022 3:06 PM

r51 Yes, and women should shroud themselves to prevent assault.

by Anonymousreply 52April 22, 2022 3:43 PM

R48 Your boss is telling the truth. It’s all ghetto now. I noticed this trend starting a few years back when Barneys was around. Went on a weekday morning to shop and was taken aback by the type of customers there. Very lowbrow, loud and thuggish, walking embodiments of pimp and hos. I predicted Barneys would go out of business with that type of clientele and I was right.

Fast forward to Saks. Had a run a quick errand recently and got there thirty minutes after opening. I wait for the elevator and out walks a thug in designer streetwear, smoking marijuana with impunity, with visible smoke left in the elevator. I’m not a smoker nor drug user and it repulsed me that I had to deal with it so early in the morning at such a place.

Rodeo Drive is a sight to behold nowadays. Mornings used to be wealthy older ladies and benign tourists. Now it looks like a set of a rap video, teeming with the trashiest people you can think of. Think obese women in tight spandex minis, huge gold jewelry and hooker nails, men in sagging pants and loud streetwear. I just shop online these days instead.

by Anonymousreply 53April 22, 2022 8:21 PM

I do some crafting on the side. . . those willing to shell out gs tend to be gangsta. I've often thought about starting a discussion on it somewhere.. albeit, more about a trend not so isolated to my area of gang culture (which are predominately white and brown) and the transition to the nonbinary -- though, there has always been a bit of swish there from homerotic hyper masculinity to sociocultural transgressions that would be considered flamboyant.. gaudy and flamboyant. But bills gotta be paid.

by Anonymousreply 54April 22, 2022 8:53 PM

^ incidentally, more on topic... they weren't hurt by covid or the recession, instead, their biz is booming... so yeah, expect them in the places rich bitches and pricks used to go.

by Anonymousreply 55April 22, 2022 8:56 PM

Well, to be fair, those older white ladies were just as horrid to look at. One of the first times I had to go there for work I remember looking at this trashy blond bimbo with long fake hair down her back, a slit in her dress all the way up the side revealing some very leathery tan skin. When she turned around I actually gasped! She was like 75 years old with duck lips, face pulled so tight she looked Chinese.

Same old shit, different trash.
