What do you honestly think of Elizabeth Taylor's looks?

When do you think she looked her best and worst?

When would you say her prime began and ended?

Her best and worst features?

How were her looks thought of throughout the years?

What movies did she look her best and worst in?

Etc.

Let's discuss...

by Anonymousreply 111April 22, 2022 2:00 AM

Miss Taylor is a spoiled, indulgent child, a blemish on public decency.

Way too hairy, like Demi Moore hairy, but all over, not just the bush.

by Anonymousreply 4March 24, 2022 12:08 AM

Big head, big forehead, no neck after 1962, short-waisted, the tits were ridiculous, her hips were blocky and her big ass was flat.

by Anonymousreply 5March 24, 2022 12:19 AM

I honestly have never heard of anyone say she was ugly before. Not even one person...

by Anonymousreply 6March 24, 2022 12:44 AM

LOVELIEST: Although Liz was a beautiful child & gorgeous young woman, IMO she was at her absolute loveliest during her time with Mike Todd (1956 - 1958). The fashions during those years agreed with her and the happiness of her personal life absolutely oozed out of her pores. And she remained lovely until 1963 or so.

by Anonymousreply 7March 24, 2022 1:12 AM

AT HER WORST: The boozing, drugging, jet-setting, fighting & binging with Richard Burton wrecked absolute Hell on her looks. Throughout the 60s you still saw the occasional flashes of the world-renowned beauty she once was but year by year she looked frumpier, harder & more haggard. By the Early 70s she'd occasionally look hideous. But then again, most women of that period did in those horrible hippy fashions and Billie Jean King shag-mullets.

by Anonymousreply 8March 24, 2022 1:23 AM

THE REBOUND: After her bout with morbid obesity in the Late 70s, Liz rebounded in the Looks Department in the 1980s. And by the Early 90s during her final marriage to that construction worker, she looked the best she had in years.

I never saw her as she was hyped up to be. I find Angelina Jolie infinitely more beautiful; however, Taylor was stunning in Cat on A Hot Tin Roof. She and Newman were, in my opinion, at the height of their beauty at that time.

by Anonymousreply 10March 24, 2022 1:36 AM

R7, I've always wished she would have filmed a movie in early 1957. Looked amazing then. Anyone know why she didn't do a movie in 1957? What a waste. To me, she was at her absolute peak right around the time she turned 25. The only year in her prime she didn't film a movie. Very disappointing and strange...

by Anonymousreply 11March 24, 2022 1:43 AM

Giant was her peak.

by Anonymousreply 12March 24, 2022 1:44 AM

A gay man obsessed with a female starlet and probably jealous.

by Anonymousreply 13March 24, 2022 1:46 AM

She had a gorgeous face. She was short, with a good sized bust and short legs. She started getting chunky in her thirties. She had unattractive hands; short fingers, pudgy, hands like a child. Her face was her fortune.

by Anonymousreply 14March 24, 2022 1:59 AM

Didn’t Mickey Rooney claim he sodomized her?

by Anonymousreply 15March 24, 2022 2:05 AM

She shouldn’t have tanned so much. It didn’t suit her at all.

[quote] Didn’t Mickey Rooney claim he sodomized her?

Some book about the life of Mickey Rooney said that someone walked in and saw him getting a blowjob from Elizabeth Taylor. She would have been 14 at the time. Does anyone believe THAT?

She had the most beautiful face ever in her prime.

by Anonymousreply 20March 24, 2022 5:33 AM

A good hearted lady

by Anonymousreply 21March 24, 2022 5:58 AM

Elizabeth was at her peak during the early 1950s (A Place In The Sun, Ivanhoe).

Beautiful symmetrical face, but by no means perfect. Perfection doesn't exist. No one has everything. She had striking eyes, lush lashes, and a lovely nose. Her chin was rather weak for her face. Her teeth quickly deteriorated and ruined her smile. By the mid 1960s, tanning had damaged her complexion. Weight gain gave her a matronly aspect before she was 40.

She was really short and top heavy. When you don't have much vertical length, excess weight reinforces your stumpiness.

She was better when she didn't speak. Her voice didn't complement her appearance: it was shrill and grating. She sounded like a fishwife.

I think she often rested on her looks. There were actresses who didn't equal her facial loveliness, yet they had a warmer spark, a charisma that made them more approachable, more attractive (Sophia Loren, Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn). Catherine Deneuve and Grace Kelly had personas that seemed cold and remote—thus, also less attractive, at least to me. Of course, attractiveness and beauty are different things.

by Anonymousreply 26March 24, 2022 2:40 PM

I have several favorite Elizabeth eras. A place in the sun for fresh youthful beauty. The Mike Todd years for lush sexuality. And then the Richard Burton/Sandpiper years for sensual mature womanhood. After that - eh. I’m assuming food and alcohol did its worst, but it seems Elizabeth did have her fun.

by Anonymousreply 27March 24, 2022 3:16 PM

Gay men think's she's the most beautiful....as a frau I find her beautiful and very sexy and sensual, and I just love Liz herself and her 8 marriages, but her beauty isn't as....refined enough I would say to declare her the most beautiful, at least what I find as beautiful. She has a bit of a potato face going on. Still beautiful, absolutely, but not perfect or refined.

by Anonymousreply 28March 24, 2022 3:24 PM

Look at her on WML in 1954. She's mesmerizing with that beauty and charm.

She had lousy taste in men and clothes.

by Anonymousreply 30March 24, 2022 3:49 PM

Gorgeous; even when she gained weight she was beautiful. Probably at her most beautiful as Maggie or Cleopatra. The sun damage and smoking did her no favors in the end though.

by Anonymousreply 31March 24, 2022 4:02 PM

She was a great beauty as a child. Her looks peaked in her early twenties. She got matronly in her 30s. She really went overboard with the tanning. On her guest spot on "Here's Lucy" she was brown as a nut and it wasn't becoming.

by Anonymousreply 32March 24, 2022 8:51 PM

No one quite like her.

by Anonymousreply 33March 24, 2022 9:08 PM

Probably the most beautiful movie star face, ever. Not the best body but when she was younger and had that tiny waist and no jowls, she was perfect.

by Anonymousreply 42March 25, 2022 2:42 PM

I find her at her most beautiful in Cat on a Hot Teen Roof and Butterfield 8 era. The simplicity of her wardrobe in Cat helped, together with a great performance. As mentioned, she did not age well, but a contributing factor was her real awful taste in clothing. Having said this, she was larger than life, crazy and a good soul, what’s not to like.

She is luminous in “Ivanhoe” (1952).

Everyone seeing that movie must think Robert Taylor is batshit crazy to prefer chubbette Joan Fontaine.

[quote] The daisy necklace was my favorite piece of jewelry in Elizabeth’s collection.

I thought it was hilarious that she was accepting a "humanitarian" award dripping in jewels and wearing a Valentino gown. I thought something more subdued would have been in order. She wanted jewels to go with the yellow gown so she borrowed the "Reine Marguerités"suite, which translated means Queen Daisies. She liked it so much she bought it. A very avaricious humanitarian.

by Anonymousreply 53March 26, 2022 3:35 AM

She looked inviting in Cat, alluring in Cleo, and beguiling in Butterfield. The 70's were not good to her but she made a triumphant return to sexiness and glamour as Helena Cassidine on General Hospital in 81. One feature that never wavered throughout the decades were her beautiful violet eyes.

I had the opportunity to meet her in the VIP room before the 1996 AIDS Candlelight March in DC. Those eyes were stunning!

by Anonymousreply 54March 26, 2022 3:41 AM

R54, what do you think of her looks in Suddenly Last Summer?

Also, was she nice when you met her?

by Anonymousreply 55March 26, 2022 5:05 AM

[55] There was a receiving line. It was a handshake and "Hello, nice to meet you" kinda thing. To be honest, she seemed a little dazed but she was kind to each one of us. Those eyes! Following, we all walked from the Rayburn House Office Building to the Lincoln Memorial. Miss Taylor rode in a golf cart.

by Anonymousreply 82April 4, 2022 2:52 AM

Any time her weight was under control- it fluctuated in the 60s, she was cubby and fat much of the the 70s, and thin again in her 50s after cleaning up the substances- I thought she was as stunning then as in the 50s. She actually also was pretty smashing up to her early 60s when health problems more or less made her frail. Best thing about her was that her beauty was not her focus in life- life was- and boy did she live- and give.

by Anonymousreply 83April 4, 2022 3:13 AM

Thanks for the Oscar clips from the early 99s- they prove my point. And she was quite classy.

My favorite Elizabeth quip: while showing off one of her huge gems, an interviewer remarks, “it’s so vulgar” and she comes right back, “would you have me any other way?”

by Anonymousreply 84April 4, 2022 3:26 AM

She was stunning basically from A Place in the Sun (1951) to BUtterfield 8 (1960).

When my mother was expecting my older sister in 1959, around the time of the Taylor/Fisher/Reynolds scandal, she wanted to name her Elizabeth; my dad refused to allow it, saying "No daughter of mine is going to share her name with that slut!"

I was not aware of her until Cleopatra so I can't speak to her early days. Too much makeup. Too much hairspray. Too many diamonds. Bad taste in clothing unless she was at the Oscars. Too much drama in her personal life. Voice of a fishwife and not a subtle actress. She kept those old movie magazines in business for years.

Incredibly beautiful eyes even as she aged.

I am appreciative of her work for AIDs but I would ignore her otherwise. She made herself into an icon of gluttony.

by Anonymousreply 99April 7, 2022 9:37 PM

R98, she was pregnant when she filmed The Girl Who Had Everything.

by Anonymousreply 100April 7, 2022 9:37 PM

Pregnancy is not the only reason I cited, R100. We can agree to disagree about why an actor would opt not to work during a year with three major life events: a long awaited divorce, getting married and having a baby all within 8 months time; most people would prefer to take the time to enjoy those moments.

by Anonymousreply 101April 7, 2022 10:31 PM

R101, I just think it's a waste because she looked her best then (well in early 1957 before she started to show). She looked incredible in the Person To Person interview. It's on YouTube if you haven't seen it...

by Anonymousreply 106April 11, 2022 7:07 PM

Just my opinion:

At her best, no other woman could hold a candle to her.

At her worst, she was blowsy and frowsy.

She had a disproportionate body that must have been difficult to dress tastefully, and her taste in clothing more often than not left much to be desired.

But those eyes were unlike any others,

To me, she was at her most beautiful around the time of Butterfield 8.
