They are good movies but I don't understand the hype around them. It's not that I feel the urge to watch and rewatch them all the time. Pacino has an intense stare, that's all.
The Godfather I + II

So don't watch them. Who cares if you watch them?

I am sure the Corleones were extremely homophobic. Sunny would have killed a gay nephew with his bare hands.

All throughout the pandemic, I kept meaning to rewatch the trilogy. Oh well

Sonny would have killed you with his bare hands for referring to him as "Sunny," R2.

Book was a huge hit but pulpy. Coppola and the actors elevated it to high populist art. The second goes deeper, dramatizing the total corruption at the heart of the American (capitalist?) system. Again, about as well photographed, edited, designed, scored, and acted as it gets. The general audience was also primed to make these movies into massive hits and cultural phenomena. It have birth to the now very overplayed subgenre of mob stories It was also before corporations took over the studios and everything was dumbed down.

Oh dear, R4. So sorry.

Wow, really? That’s all you get out of the two movies?

Al Martino sucks.

Part Two was the best. You broke my heart, fredo. I had an ABORTION, Michael!

BOOK - Best selling BOOK. Hence the hype.

I can see Sonny topping a pretty twink or two. He had that energy in the book.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 23, 2022 10:30 PM |
He had a giant Schwantz according to the book.

I just rewatched Godfather 3, death of Michael Corleone. The new ending is weird and the opening shot makes no sense at all. But not a bad movie.

R9, Johnny Olah knows these place like the back of his hand.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 26, 2022 7:20 PM |
R12, The movie, too, or did you miss his wife's gesture at the wedding?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 26, 2022 7:21 PM |
Godfather 3 should not be included in the saga. It's not a "trilogy."

The Oscars will be paying a tribute to the 50th anniversary of The Godfather.

R17 oh cool. If I were only watching.

Do you mean "popular" art? Nothing about The Godfather is "populist."

The best films, TV, books, music etc. are seldom the ones that get the most publicity.

People, too, r20.

There's a movie coming out that looks good about the making of the Godfather. Apparently the real mafia and a bunch of Italian-American groups were really pissed off and tried everything to stop the movie from being made.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 27, 2022 5:17 AM |
Who cares about them, r22 (I'm Sicilian-American)? They have been protesting since "The Untouchables" was a TV hit.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 27, 2022 9:26 PM |
R5, Au contraire. The 30s saw the birth of the "Mob film."
"The Godfather" in 1972 was a neo-Mob movie.

Family Guy already weighed in on this. OP, you're Peter.
