Actually, M worked with Shep first on the Express Yourself remix, and that's where a lot of these sounds were first used.

But Shep, Jimmy and Terry, etc. all sampled and ripped from tons of artists previously anyway. They all did.

Madonna continued to dominate into the '90s. Though successful in her own right, Janet was never a worldwide phenomenon like these two. In neither record sales nor concert tours. I would say outside of English-speaking countries she was mostly known as MJ's little sister.

I have been listening to some old Janet Jackson songs lately and what I have found is that for me, her thin voice really grates, but the songs stand up anyway. I like some old Madonna songs too, but not many have held up for me.

They are such different performers I don’t get why they are constantly compared to each other by me or anyone else. I guess because they both put on shows where the dancing was as important as the song.
