I just bought a strawberry-rhubarb pie this afternoon. But I'll eat over a few days.

Depends on which hemisphere you are living in.
What's fresh?
If nothing yet, mince or pecan or some kind of cream/custard pie.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 20, 2022 10:53 PM |
Shepherd's pie. With ketchup.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 20, 2022 10:54 PM |
I love any fruit pie but razzleberry is my favorite. Then pecan. And I'd stab someone to get to a good pecan pie.

Chicken pot pie.

Never heard of an upside down tart.
Recipe PLEASE.

Pumpkin and Apple pie are my favorites.

French Apple. Pie with FROSTING!

What does Patti's buttermilk pie taste like? J'adore a good custard tart. Is this similar?
by Anonymous | reply 21 | March 21, 2022 7:54 AM |
You can make a pie from any root vegetable or fruit. If pumpkin, why not turnip? Just add butter and sugar.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 21, 2022 8:51 AM |
R21, buttermilk pie tastes similar to pecan pie, but more luscious.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 21, 2022 10:00 AM |
Lemon meringue or coconut custard please.

by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 21, 2022 6:25 PM |
r29 Bought one just today. Zeppoli are gone until next year, and I was craving something custard-y with fruit. Tripped on down to Termini's to get one of their terrific Banana Cream pies. Firm crust, thick vanilla custard, lots of banana slices, stabilized whipped cream and chocolate shavings. The 8" pie is big enough(and rather heavy for the size) for 6 quite nice servings, and a very good price at $15.00.
Many years ago when I was in the service and home on leave, I went to Termini's to get some pastries for a big family dinner. The nice young woman helping me choose various items informed me that they were all out of Banana Cream pies, one of my faves even then. The old man, Mr. Joseph Termini, saw me in my uniform and told me to wait. Not 5 minutes later he returns with a BC pie, which he had gone in the back and made special just for me. I thanked him profusely, then he turned to the young woman and said "No charge." He gave me a little salute and disappeared into the back once again. That particular kindness is just one of the reasons I am such a faithful customer to this day. Salute Giuseppe!

R30 what a sweet story thanks for sharing! I looked up the bakery and it looks amazing!
by Anonymous | reply 39 | March 22, 2022 3:30 AM |
R37 I have had marionberry pie once in my life and have never forgotten it. I was waiting for marionberries to appear in Southern California last summer to make a cobbler or some thing and they never came. The Willamette Valley area of Oregon had a really bad heat wave and killed off most of the marionberry crops. It was very sad. Hopefully this summer they’ll have a good crop!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 22, 2022 3:31 AM |
Mmm the Marionberry milkshakes at burgervillle are one of my favorite things to get when I travel to Portland. I wonder why they don’t grow in other places.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 22, 2022 3:35 AM |
i'm going to be up in Seattle briefly in June and really hope i can find some, r40!
r41 they grow in some areas of WA as well. They were developed in Marion County, OR in the 50s or 60s...not sure why they couldn't grow elsewhere.

r39 AFAIC Termini's is the premier Italian bakery in South Philly. There are others that have their loyal followers: Isgro's, Varrallo's, Frangelli's, Potito's. Termini's was always our family bakery, there are just some things you don't bake at home because it is better to leave them to the experts.
My late father-in-law's philosophy concerning the dichotomy of cake vs pie: CAKE is for ladies(hearkening back to the days of women's clubs in the home, as each hostess attempted to dazzle her guests with some outstanding, and hopefully unknown to those assembled, cake), PIE is for dessert. The pie conundrum was settled for him because he often stated "I only like two kinds of pie, hot and cold." Right on!💪

I want to eat blackberry pie.

Even Patti can't eat a whole one of those lead-crusted slop-catchers.
Re said she'd never go near anything Patti baked because she was one of those women who never washed her hands and who always has something nasty under her coke nail.
And it ain't pumpkin.
I mean, you saw how Re acted like Patti had the Ebola at that "Yet Another Farewell Honor for Ol' Leather Boobs" thing.

I did. Last week. In less than twenty-four hours. I actually woke up at 4am craving it. Marie Callender's Lemon Merengue. It was okay, but did hit the spot. Look, I love healthy food and eat salad everyday, but goddammit, sometimes, I just NEED a little bit of something. Or in this case, 6-8 servings of it.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | June 27, 2022 2:05 AM |
I love cherry pie but with crumble topping. Pretty much any pie with crumble topping. This one looks good……
by Anonymous | reply 60 | June 27, 2022 3:54 AM |
Honey chiles, I want to make this peach cobbler that looks like a pie so bad. I saw it in NYT cooking, but this is close to the same recipe. Apparently, cobblers down south are frequently made with a top and bottom crust like a pie, but they put a little dough in with the fruit as well. Peaches aren’t good where I live until august, so I guess I’ll have to wait.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | June 27, 2022 9:48 PM |
Peach, sour cherry, key lime, banana cream, coconut cream but not necessarily in that order.

r32 Pies and cakes have done been twain-ed. Saw photos several years ago of fully baked pies that were placed in layer cake pans, and had cake batter poured over them before being placed in the oven. I'm assuming the batter insulated the pies somewhat, so they would retain at least a modicum of flavor and structural integrity. An abomination to be sure, but you have to admire the ingenuity.
Never say never. 😉

A pie turducken? A guy doing a NYT Food Section video on Thanksgiving for one baked a pie divided in three parts: pumpkin and two others.
It did not work. Much hilarity ensured.
You can always make baby pies.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 9, 2022 6:35 PM |
In terms of eating the whole thing, something with a graham cracker crust would probably be less likely to give you heartburn than a pastry crust. I would similarly avoid fillings made with whole fruit and chocolate because of the lower G.I. side effects. So maybe key lime or lemon.

Pecan Pie Fans: Try making one, yourself.
My mom was a good pie crust maker, but I've heard that Pillsbury frozen is good.
Follow the directions (for the filling) on the Karo syrup bottle.
I've made pecan pie twice. Once as a teenager and once as an older person. Both times with the Karo recipe. Both times very delicious.
