Is Amy Adams overdue for an Oscar?

If so, what movie do you think she should’ve won for?

by Anonymousreply 79October 24, 2022 5:53 PM

No.

by Anonymousreply 1March 16, 2022 9:32 PM

R1 Her fans certainly disagree with you.

by Anonymousreply 2March 16, 2022 9:33 PM

There was always a slightly better performance. I'd have given it to her over Melissa Leo cause her oscar campaigning was annoyingly desperate.

by Anonymousreply 3March 16, 2022 9:34 PM

She should’ve won for Junebug and The Master.

by Anonymousreply 4March 16, 2022 9:35 PM

R2 I like Amy but her fans are annoying as hell.

by Anonymousreply 5March 16, 2022 9:36 PM

News flash: EVERYONE'S fans are annoying as hell.

by Anonymousreply 6March 16, 2022 9:38 PM

Yes, for Junebug.

by Anonymousreply 7March 16, 2022 9:40 PM

R6 Yeah but no one calls out Amy’s fans for being annoying, so I feel compelled to.

by Anonymousreply 8March 16, 2022 9:46 PM

She was phenomenal in Junebug and really deserved to win that year. No one even remembers Rachel Weisz in aThe Constant Gardener. I would also say The Master she was deserving - a very scary performance from her (although I was pulling for Sally Field that year).

by Anonymousreply 9March 16, 2022 9:48 PM

I think that parade has past her by after Kristin Bell wiped the floor with her mocking her performance she did in her latest movie.

by Anonymousreply 10March 16, 2022 9:49 PM

You know what's ruined the Oscars? The idea that people are owed an Oscar for merely being the industry for decades.

by Anonymousreply 11March 16, 2022 9:50 PM

*She's* overdue for an Oscar???! GFY!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 12March 16, 2022 9:50 PM

R11 Not even twenty years since her first nomination also.

But this is the year that Will Smith is "overdue" as well.

by Anonymousreply 13March 16, 2022 9:52 PM

Its weird when someone becomes overdue. For some the years of waiting are far shorter.

by Anonymousreply 14March 16, 2022 9:54 PM

She was great in Buffy!

by Anonymousreply 15March 16, 2022 9:55 PM

My biggest wish is for Will Smith to lose.

by Anonymousreply 16March 16, 2022 9:57 PM

Will Smith was very good in King Richard. You just don't like Jada and all of the other non-movie related garbage surrounding him.

by Anonymousreply 17March 16, 2022 10:04 PM

I thought she was great in Arrival and should’ve been nominated for that.

by Anonymousreply 18March 16, 2022 10:14 PM

No. Massively overrated and boring actress except in comedic fare, which she seems to have abandoned entirely in her prestige quest. The only more morose dramatic actress the “quality” directors force on us is La Widow Ledger.

by Anonymousreply 19March 20, 2022 5:10 AM

I agree she’s overdue and was robbed of a nomination and award for Arrival.

by Anonymousreply 20March 20, 2022 5:14 AM

Arrival.

by Anonymousreply 21March 20, 2022 5:28 AM

Junebug is one of the best performances i've ever seen. The way she gets all giddy and excited when Embeth Davidtz arrives, one leg running up the other and using curse words to try and impress the city slicker and seem more cool. It's a brilliantly childlike performance, which just makes her climactic scene in the film even more heartbreaking. She's so natural in it, you don't see any 'acting.'

I've kind of hated her in everything else lol, and i've seen most of her movies (okay she has some fun early roles like Cruel Intentions and Drop Dead Gorgeous, and was decent in Her, Sunshine Cleaning, etc.). I find her a bit unconvincing and forced, and I can't take her seriously in these 'troubled woman' roles. I remember laughing out loud in Sharp Objects when the sheriff says to her "we don't need you around here rilin' people up' and she replies "you got two dead bodies on your hands! sounds like someone else is doin' the rilin'!!!!". Very much like a little girl playing dress up as a grown up.

by Anonymousreply 22March 20, 2022 5:38 AM

Amy Adams, best actress for Hillbilly Elegy!

by Anonymousreply 23March 20, 2022 6:06 AM

Amy Adams, Best Actress for Enchanted!

by Anonymousreply 24March 20, 2022 6:49 AM

No, but Amy Ryan does - for Gone Baby Gone. And an Emmy for the "Holly" story arc in The Office.

by Anonymousreply 25March 20, 2022 6:59 AM

Amy has fans ? Must be her troll husband and brat kid

by Anonymousreply 26March 20, 2022 7:15 AM

She was great as Precious!

by Anonymousreply 27March 20, 2022 7:17 AM

She is completely forgettable.

by Anonymousreply 28March 20, 2022 7:18 AM

She should have won for Junebug and The Master. The Master performance is deceptively brilliant. You get a hint she is actually The Master.

by Anonymousreply 29March 20, 2022 7:22 AM

Liked her in a few things - The Fighter, American Hustle, Vice - but she seems kind of the same in every role. I'm often distracted by her nose.

I read she was offered a role in a Janis Joplin biopic but turned it down because there would be drug use in the movie. Imo, she missed an opportunity to show something different and maybe get her Oscar.

I must rewatch The Master.

by Anonymousreply 30March 20, 2022 8:08 AM

She's too old for Janis now but she would've been great 10 years ago. And she can sing.

by Anonymousreply 31March 20, 2022 8:17 AM

Wasnt Michelle Williams or was it just Adams tied to a Joplin movie?

by Anonymousreply 32March 20, 2022 1:29 PM

I don't know if they were Oscar-worthy, but I liked her performances in Nocturnal Animals and Catch Me If You Can.

by Anonymousreply 33March 20, 2022 1:37 PM

I don't know if she's overdue but she should've been nominated for Arrival.

I think her work in Nocturnal Animals and Arrival that year cancelled each other out b/c otherwise it was a pretty amazing year for her. And Arrival had like 8 nominations incl. Best Picture so obviously she should've been nominated. There likely just wasn't consensus between those 2 performances and it split her chances.

I don't think she deserved that nomination for American Hustle though.

by Anonymousreply 34March 20, 2022 1:43 PM

She was great in Nocturnal Animals. I also loved her in American Hustle and was happy she got the surprise lead actress nod that year, her only nomination in that category to date.

by Anonymousreply 35March 20, 2022 1:44 PM

I find her bland and overrated. I think she would irk me less if critics didn't constantly herald her brilliance. I remember some critic gushing about her on CT public radio saying that there was something broken about her that shines through her acting and made it interesting or some such nonsense. I always thought that same quality was an affectation. You've got to be one tough cookie to make it as far as Adams has in Hollywood. I think r19s comparison of her to Michelle Williams is apt. They both have the same " broken doll" qualities that endear them to critics but leave me bored with their performances.

by Anonymousreply 36March 20, 2022 1:44 PM

She should get in line behind me.

by Anonymousreply 37March 20, 2022 4:17 PM

Drop Dead Gorgeous

by Anonymousreply 38March 20, 2022 4:21 PM

I think she's a good actress. She's one of those actresses that isn't the main event but I'm always excited to see she's in something I'm watching.

by Anonymousreply 39March 21, 2022 2:00 AM

[quote]Is Amy Adams overdue for an Oscar?

Yes. If you've seen Junebug and you'd know that it was one of the best performances of the 2000s.

by Anonymousreply 40March 21, 2022 2:03 AM

Junebug sucked.

by Anonymousreply 41March 21, 2022 2:06 AM

I like that she did this.

Cate Blanchett doesn’t get tattooed with just anybody.

by Anonymousreply 42March 21, 2022 2:07 AM

I remember seeing them pictured together out and about. They're apparently friends. Cate is a huge fan of Amy Adams.

by Anonymousreply 43March 21, 2022 2:09 AM

Amy will need to play a disabled person in order to win an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 44March 21, 2022 2:34 AM

[quote]Wasnt Michelle Williams or was it just Adams tied to a Joplin movie?

There have been articles for the past several years saying Williams is attached and I remember rumors in the past about Amy Adams being considered. I also recall in the late 90s or early 00s, Renee Zellweger was floated around a possible pick for a Joplin biopic.

But, didn't Joplin's family threaten lawsuits if a biopic was made?

by Anonymousreply 45March 21, 2022 2:37 AM

She should have won Best Actress for “Arrival”, yet she wasn’t even nominated that year. That Emma Stone (who can’t sing or dance) won that year for a musical (“La La Land”) is a complete joke.

by Anonymousreply 46March 21, 2022 2:46 AM

She should’ve won for Enchanted and Arrival.

She was most recently great in Dear Evan Hansen.

by Anonymousreply 47March 21, 2022 2:49 AM

Amy stole my career!

by Anonymousreply 48March 21, 2022 3:04 AM

I’m hijacking this thread to say that fellow red headed actor Bryce Dallas Howard been more overlooked for an Oscar as she’s never even been nominated and that’s a travesty of Justice! Surely she deserved a nomination for the Help!

by Anonymousreply 49March 22, 2022 10:16 PM

Junebug.

by Anonymousreply 50March 22, 2022 10:23 PM

Bland and forgettable. Junebug was okay.

by Anonymousreply 51March 22, 2022 10:46 PM

Should have been nommed and won in Nocturnal Animals

by Anonymousreply 52March 22, 2022 10:53 PM

1. Amy Adams, as some here have already pointed out, is extremely bland and boring and is one of the most overrated “A-list” actors working today.

2. I fucking can’t stand her mousy voice.

3. Absolutely no one is overdue for an Oscar. No one is guaranteed a win, and there are many times when a great performance, perhaps the best of one’s career, happens in the same year as someone else’s great performance, and someone has to lose. #firstworldproblems

4. If fans insist on pushing the narrative that someone is overdue for an Oscar, the actor should be Glenn Close’s age or older. Amy Adams? Give me a fucking break.

5. I fucking can’t stand her mousy voice.

by Anonymousreply 53March 22, 2022 11:24 PM

R16 That's my wish too. I'm not a huge Amy Adams fan, but Will Smith seems much more arrogant and self-important.

by Anonymousreply 54March 23, 2022 3:46 AM

Amy Adams? Fuck that bitch, where the hell is MY Oscar?

by Anonymousreply 55March 23, 2022 5:12 AM

R55 Couldn't agree more.

by Anonymousreply 56March 23, 2022 5:13 AM

She's the child-woman with the blonde hair horny old straight men salivate over. Creepy.

by Anonymousreply 57March 23, 2022 5:39 AM

She has my favorite pre-fame resume: Drop Dead Gorgeous, Psycho Beach Party, Cruel Intentions 2, Buffy, Smallville

by Anonymousreply 58March 23, 2022 6:47 AM

I don’t have strong feelings about Amy Adams one way or another. But I did like her in a movie no one has mentioned yet. Too lazy to Google it but it’s the biopic of that painter of the faces with the big eyes.

by Anonymousreply 59March 23, 2022 7:21 AM

R59 its literally called Big Eyes. It's a very good, non-Burton Burton film

by Anonymousreply 60March 23, 2022 7:30 AM

R29 Yeah, the brilliance sure deceived me. You’re that impressed with the short handjob with no other powerful scene whatsoever? I think she’s good. Oscar worthy in Junebug. Good in The Fighter, decent in Arrival, Sunshine Cleaning.. I don’t care for a lot of her stuff, but also good in Sharp Objects.

by Anonymousreply 61March 23, 2022 7:48 AM

Amy doesn’t seem like a broken doll. Williams is also a damn good actress who cam be odd but also completely transparent and emotionally nude.

by Anonymousreply 62March 23, 2022 7:54 AM

[QUOTE] Williams is also a damn good actress who cam be odd but also completely transparent and emotionally nude.

This description of Williams is why she was so good in Cabaret when I saw her onstage.

by Anonymousreply 63March 23, 2022 8:41 AM

OP Amy Adams will get an Oscar when she earns one. She doesn't automatically deserve one just because she's starred in a couple movies where she didn't wear make-up.

by Anonymousreply 64March 23, 2022 8:54 AM

I don't think it will be for Cruel Intentions Part 3333.

by Anonymousreply 65March 23, 2022 2:19 PM

She doesn't qualify for being overdue because she was never robbed.

by Anonymousreply 66March 23, 2022 2:25 PM

La La Land (aka Hollywood Handjob) was a complete joke itself. It never should have been nominated for so many awards.

The whole Academy Awards business is a massive circlejerk.

by Anonymousreply 67March 23, 2022 2:31 PM

Adams would be overdue if the Oscars were based on merit. Since they are based on how much money the studios are willing to shell out for certain valuable personnel, then no. Apparently, Amy has not impressed the right power players so she has been passed over.

by Anonymousreply 68March 23, 2022 3:30 PM

Actresses like Amy Adams, Anne Hathaway and Michelle Williams represent an insufferably bland generation of white actresses who gave people the impression that every white woman acts like them.

by Anonymousreply 69March 23, 2022 3:38 PM

R67 Dunaway reading the wrong name for best picture was the funniest Oscar moment in ages. So Lala land did give us that gift. My big problem with the film though was that it didn't really remind me of L.A.. More reminiscent of Paris.

by Anonymousreply 70March 23, 2022 5:50 PM

Watching the smug LaLa Land people having to exit the stage after seeing the panicked realization that they were holding Oscars that weren’t theirs was immensely satisfying for me. I loved the whole “mix-up” and was happy that Moonlight proved to be the victor. It’s a beautiful film anchored by a very touching and unforgettable final 1/3rd.

There was one little dork who completely knew they had lost but gave his speech anyway.

by Anonymousreply 71March 23, 2022 5:58 PM

Amy will get her Oscar one of these days...but will she slap?

by Anonymousreply 75April 5, 2022 11:57 PM

I want to like her, but her fans annoy me.

by Anonymousreply 76May 17, 2022 7:58 AM

I like Amy, but her acting is overrated. If she weren't so likeable and attractive, there's no way she would 6 Oscar nominations. "Junebug" is the only she truly deserved.

by Anonymousreply 77October 24, 2022 5:32 PM

I still remember her tone-deaf and defensive responses to the pay gap debate a few years ago. "don't ask me about that!" I think she even made an NBC journalist cry.

by Anonymousreply 78October 24, 2022 5:48 PM

She should have won for Junebug, and then had it taken away for Hillbilly Elegy.
