Does anyone remember when she was the co-lead in that sappy, anti-Union propaganda movie "Won't Back Down?" She's supposed to be this super edgy, progressive indie star. Such a bizarre choice for her on so many levels. If you go back and read interviews with her during the press tour, she didn't see it as anti-union, but a story trying to get people to be active about our flawed education system. To be honest, I don't know how anyone could watch that movie and not see it as anti-union propaganda. It just makes no sense to me. I think she's either dumb or doesn't want to admit that she's anti-teacher Union (at least at that time).
Maggie Gyllenhaal

She was on one of those round table discussions with all the actors, and every other woman there was clearly annoyed by her, and just ignored her. She kept going on weird, pleading tangents about how important it was to portray sex on TV and discuss sex and explore sex, and it came across like she had issues of her own that she is working through on these shows she chooses to do. Everyone just kind of let an awkward silence come and then moved on.

The movie was funded by a big time conservative. That says it all.
During the press tour, Maggie said the people calling it anti-union haven't seen it, but I guess she didn't read the reviews. In interviews, Rosie Perez was the only one who seemed to understand the backlash.

Maybe Maggie is just anti-union? Wealthy people from privileged backgrounds usually are.

As soon as I see or hear the words "Maggie Gyllenhaal" my whole body shudders with revulsion. A mediocre actress, and a woefully ugly woman.

Is that also your estimation of her co-stars, Viola Davis, Holly Hunter and Oscar Isaac, who are all known for their progressive views?

Viola Davis was really tone-deaf with her reaction to the teachers protesting at the premiere.

In one interview during the press tour, Maggie was even talking about the "parent trigger law" as if it were a good thing. At the end of the premiere interviews, I think she was exhausted by the backlash and just throw up her hands and said it's "entertainment!" "It's a fairytale!"
There was a real anti-teacher union movement at the time, which was spearheaded by conservatives and neoliberals. Propaganda like the documentary "Waiting for Superman" brought in more neoliberals. The director and neoliberals who starred in this movie got sucked in as well.
