Who remembers HBO’s Real Sex?

Yes! I loved watching it as a kid. We didn’t have HBO but it would be free for a few weeks in the summer and I loved watching Real Sex and Taxicab Confessions!

There was also an incredible cult classic documentary about NYC prostitutes. I forget what it was called but me and my friends used to watch that and we would used quotes from that special for YEARS!

But yes I loved Real Sex! And yes all the people on that show were always gross!

It wasn't always gross... they showed quite a few alternative scenes popular with pretty lads, albeit they often primed it for sensationalism and shock value.

The people they showcased always seemed to be the dregs of society. I was left wondering where and how they found these people. I always imagined some dirty gutter in San Francisco.

Nothing compares to 90’s Trash TV.

The trash TV today is pretty conservative compared to the 90’s. Even on streaming services, nothing is as trashy and shocking and sad as the stuff that was on HBO in the 90’s.

The sidewalk interviews were always fun and trashy. Drunk women would be standing next to their boyfriends like, "OMG when presses his thumb against my ass during doggystyle it drives me crazy!"

I wonder if any of the real people featured in Real Sex and Taxi Cab ever lived to regret it? Some things look bad to future employers, future partners, kids, and parents. People weren't really thinking about that so much at the time, were mostly young and wanted to be on TV and wanted to be seen as edgy. It likely didn't age well on them.

There were a few that I remember being attractive. One was a big muscle bald guy with an Asian girlfriend (I want to say his name was Carl if I remember correctly). Anyway he was hot.
