She was funny because she was fat and awkward. Now that she’s skinny and has a glam squad, there’s not much there.

The relentless blitzreig of her publicists sending out pointless stories in the hope of giving her some traction and new work has just been sad. Ditto the ridicuous PR’d romance with that screamer.

Fat or less fat, there’s something creepy and offputting about her, and it’s not just the bossy neediness. It comes across to me as an innate angry sourness.

I don’t think Hollywood much likes her. She was just a useful filler for fatgurl roles, but now that she resembles a generic over the hill starlet who’s struggling with weight issues, I’m guessing the phone isn’t ringing off the hook.

That is the least genuine smile I think I’ve ever seen.

There is a harshness to her expression, an almost pleading force behind her smile. And maybe she can’t help it, but her teeth look crowded and too large (and too numerous) for her mouth. You rarely see her gums in still photographs, so I wonder if they have receded.

She seems truly cognizant of nutrition and she has build a big narrative about her process for fitness and weight loss. She is probably “technically” more attractive and healthier, but she may end up being less interesting than she was before. That’s hard to say, and I hope I’m wrong. She might aspire to be a romantic presence on film. I think character actors have the best options and longevity.

I thought she had a really pretty face when she was overweight, much like Adele. Soft and sensuous. It’s interesting that while most people’s faces blow up with extra weight, some actually look good. I’m thinking of that model Tessa (Holiiday?) who is extremely fat but has a lovely face.

Now she is just an average looking nobody. Her whole shtick was being fat and quirky. Jonah Hill got skinny and wasn’t funny anymore. Now he makes films as Leo’s flunky.

That Bafta performance has the potential to be career-ending. It made me wish television hadn't been invented.

Melissa McCarthy was fat and then became less fat, but she's a great actress who can carry a movie. Rebel Wilson is an impact actor you don't need to spent any more than 20 minutes with.

I agree. Melissa is good in dramatic roles and would likely find even better material if she dropped more weight, as she has a pleasant face, unlike Rebel who is a bit of an uggo.

Rebel’s success is due to sheer ambition and no talent because honestly, I haven’t liked her in anything I have seen, including Bridesmaids. That said, I think she looks very pretty with the weight loss. Interestingly, she looks no more comfortable in her thin body as she did in her heavy one.

Melissa's problem is that she keeps choosing crappy roles. Like i'm sure her husband is a nice person, but their collaborations always end up missing the mark.

R19 That rap performance is interesting to watch. Ben Stiller and Ricky Gervais seem to be more cautious, offering self-deprecating rap pseudonyms like Warm T and B Still. Maybe it was planned ahead (the producers had the music to “Push It” cued up when he asks her if she knows the song.

She takes off her shoes and really “goes for it”. It’s actually amazing in that she is basically fearless and unafraid (unaware?) of any perceptions of cultural misappropriation. I wonder if they had to license the music for this bit, or if they kept the clip short enough to avoid having to pay for the rights to use it.

To be fair, the audience seems to love it and her, too. There may have been flashing “APPLAUSE” signs off camera, but still, her handlers might call the clip successful. I mean “handlers” in the entertainment and media sense, not the zoological sense, maybe both.

She seems to be working really hard to maintain her stature and visibility as an entertainer, and her audience seems aware of that hard work. That’s like a marker for desperation, and it’s like blood in the water for critics, draws a lot of cynicism. The oversharing of fitness milestones isn’t so interesting to most, like when a colleague breathlessly shares how many steps they got in during their morning break and waves a FitBit in your face. Many people sit back and say “oh…is that good?”. Her focus on health and appearance seems a lot less interesting to her audience, and that’s got to hurt. She could use a good project soon.

She's taking care of her good health. Her good health, mind,, body,, and spirit,, is more important than the piblic's endless and selfish need for amusement. Rebel comes first.

She is a pretty complex character and presence. In her bio, I see that she was a really good student and showed intellectual prowess in school. I’m not surprised. I remember she won a lawsuit in the media about the veracity of her declared age, but it looks like the terms of her settlement were changed, and she had to pay much of it back with interest. This lady has dealt with some pretty rough disappointments, in a really public forum. I hope she has good support, friends, and things like that. Fame is hard, and it looks like it’s getting harder for her. R51 is right. She needs to put herself first.

The lying fat bitch probably had gastric bypass (instead of lapband) that is how you lose so much weight and keep it off. The thing is, by having gastric bypass, she’ll need to go to the toilet at least a dozen times a day. It’s disgusting - almost like diarrhoea - leading to horrendous emissions and flatulence. And if she has a partner he’ll run the danger of waking up in bed surrounded by her uncontrollable bowel explosions as the gastric bypass does its work.

What does R48 have to do with Rebel Wilson?

I'd followed her career and liked her until she took that legal action against the magazine which seemed unnecessary and made her look thin skinned and petty. In hindsight she seemed to have one role she made a career out of, the lazy, blunt, simple girl who makes self depreciating jokes about her weight and laziness and doesn't care what anyone thinks. Having lost all that weight she can't pull that off anymore and seems to have been reduced to doing hosting gigs of tv shows and awards events.

Before this (partial) transformation, she would have made an excellent casting choice for a biopic of Hattie Jacques. She was another actress and presence with a niche audience, and lots of personal complexity.

Agree @ R56 that she needs to find a new identity. She can't play the sassy, fat, best friend anymore. It won't be easy since there are many, many beautiful actresses who are younger, fitter and far more talented.
