I torrented it and just realized it stars James Stewart, whom I find annoying.
Should I watch the movie Vertigo?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | March 20, 2022 2:30 AM |
Why would we care one way or the other? Do you think we know your movie interests?
by Anonymous | reply 1 | March 14, 2022 1:28 AM |
He's kind of a psychotic jerk in the movie, so you might enjoy it, OP. It's one of my favorites.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | March 14, 2022 1:28 AM |
I think you have an encyclopedic knowledge of old movies and want to share that knowledge, cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | March 14, 2022 1:29 AM |
r2, psychotic jerk sounds good to me!
by Anonymous | reply 4 | March 14, 2022 1:29 AM |
Cunt, R3?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | March 14, 2022 1:30 AM |
It’s my favourite Hitchcock film.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 14, 2022 1:30 AM |
What torrent(s) do you use, OP?
Thnx
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 14, 2022 1:30 AM |
OP=cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 14, 2022 1:30 AM |
Mainly, I use 1337, r7.
[quote] OP=cunt.
What did you expect?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | March 14, 2022 1:33 AM |
OP, you should be a little embarrassed you haven't seen "Vertigo" and you're advertising that fact. I suggest you wait until they show it at MoMA, and hopefully you will get stabbed there. Because you're a cunt.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | March 14, 2022 1:42 AM |
[quote] I torrented it
What does that mean?
by Anonymous | reply 11 | March 14, 2022 1:45 AM |
R11 Downloaded it illegally instead of watching on a paid-for site.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | March 14, 2022 1:48 AM |
So, OP/R12, you already illegally downloaded it, and then you post a thread asking if you should watch it?
by Anonymous | reply 13 | March 14, 2022 1:51 AM |
Vertigo is fab; the opening titles alone are worthy of attention. Make sure and watch the best quality version.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 14, 2022 1:55 AM |
Never had any interest but finally watched it on tcm a few months ago mainly because I love Kim. What a great movie and I think it’s Kim’s best work. Lots of surprises along the way. Give it a shot!
by Anonymous | reply 15 | March 14, 2022 2:04 AM |
the best part for me is when James is following her around before he meets her. great photography and music. But once Kim opens her mouth she ruins it.

That horrifying scene of Barbara Bel Geddes giving birth has been burned into my memory since I saw this movie. The close-up stuff was uncalled for.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | March 14, 2022 2:18 AM |
You can't go wrong with Hitchcock's 50's movies.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 14, 2022 2:19 AM |
The Barbara Bel Geddes birth/abortion scene was rough, agreed, R17.

Look OP, we donated all our encyclopedic knowledge on this classic 12 months ago. Go to the search engine and wash your mouth.

There are almost 200 posts of our encyclopedic knowledge on this classic here!

I watched it and thought it was awful. Never understood why dudebros claim this is the best movie ever made. I can't stand Jimmy Stewart either so that didn't help and Kim Novak was never a good actress. I would recommend skipping.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 14, 2022 2:30 AM |
R22 You need to ditch your 'dudebros'.
Classics deserve to be seen on the big screen without interruption from your phone and your 'dudebros'.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | March 14, 2022 2:35 AM |
If you have a yen for classic Hitchcock, go for Rear Window or North By Northwest, or the remake of The Man Who Knew Too Much. Not a fan of Vertigo.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2022 2:38 AM |
I don't know any dudebros thankfully. I'm talking about the ones online who always love to say Vertigo is the best movie ever and trash any other movie that came out at the same time since Vertigo wasn't recognized by the Academy. I promise you that those dudebros are not the types who enjoy Auntie Mame.
Hitchcock has much better movies that don't include a fugly Republican like Jimmy Stewart who was always paired with women 3/4 of his age.

R24 Lifeboat is also great featuring the wonderous Tallulah Bankhead. It's my favorite movie Hitch made along with Suspicion.

R17 Hm...I think that might have been Jennifer Jones in A Farewell To Arms (1957), produced by Hitchcock's former boss.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | March 14, 2022 2:40 AM |
Jennifer Jones gives birth in A Farewell to Arms. Very underrated movie and much better imo than the original with Gary Cooper and Helen Hayes.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | March 14, 2022 2:41 AM |
You might want to watch just for the breathtaking location scenes of San Francisco in the 1950s.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | March 14, 2022 2:44 AM |
I took a Hitchcock class in college; to be honest, Vertigo wasn't one of my favorites. There was just something off about the whole thing and I didn't buy the "shocking" end.
I think Hitchcock was a bit overrated; he had some great films (really some great scenes) in a career spanning 60 years.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | March 14, 2022 3:01 AM |
Vertigo is a very unusual film. Think of the whole movie as a dream and it makes more sense.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 14, 2022 3:11 AM |
When I was a kid in the early 70s Vertigo was shown on network TV - twice, I think - maybe once - then it was unavailable for a couple of decades. I was crazy about it. People now watch films over and over and pick them apart - and some of them stand up to it - but that's not the way films were made to be seen.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 14, 2022 3:20 AM |
Did you ever go to an art gallery and feel compelled to buy something ridiculously expensive? That’s how I felt at Danziger during the Vertigo exhibition. The prints were beautiful and some of them were calling my name.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | March 14, 2022 3:21 AM |
Rear Window is still my favourite Hitchcock film. I find Psycho slightly overrated, same with Vertigo. But I do like the "dream/nightmare" style of Vertigo, and I also admire the fact that Jimmy Stewart put his ego aside to play an obsessive and sometimes creepy man.
But I much prefer Rear Window because I adore the chemistry between Stewart, Grace Kelly and Thelma Ritter. I love their interplay, and I love how the film is genuinely suspenseful and exciting despite being in one setting.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 14, 2022 3:27 AM |
Don't watch it OP. You're too stupid to appreciate it.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | March 14, 2022 3:30 AM |
R29 I agree with that, the film is beautifully shot. Who knew parking was so plentiful too! Jk. I love the road scene with the trees as you drive up from Monterey.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | March 14, 2022 3:30 AM |
R34 On DL any movie featuring that talentless skunk Grace Kelly is banned. That bitch stole Judy's Oscar!
by Anonymous | reply 37 | March 14, 2022 3:33 AM |
[quote]The Barbara Bel Geddes birth/abortion scene was rough, agreed, [R17].
Some of the torrented versions edit out the entire Barbara Bel Geddes subplot, which really hurts the movie...

I loved the sequel—Vitiligo—with Michael Jackson!
by Anonymous | reply 40 | March 14, 2022 11:32 PM |
I watched it. It was ok but not really my thing. However, I have really enjoyed reading reviews and criticism of it. Thanks for linking to the other thread!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | March 17, 2022 2:56 AM |
Just that one opinion, OP, signals that you're beyond hope. Why bother to watch a great movie? It'll be wasted on you.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | March 17, 2022 3:02 AM |
Not true, r42. I watched a bunch of old movies last year on DL's recommendation and liked a lot of them. My favorites were Witness for the Prosecution and Some Like it Hot. I have been working my way through Italian Neorealists and like them too. I think I just don't like Hitchcock, but I will give another one a go.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | March 17, 2022 3:04 AM |
You will appreciate it, OP/R41, when you turn 50. You will be as starved and desperate for youth and beauty as the director and the main character were in the movie.
The movie meant little to me as a youngster watching it on a black and white TV. (I hated both the stars) But seeing it on a big screen made me I appreciate it.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | March 17, 2022 3:04 AM |
I remember watching the movie and saying WTF! I had no idea what the movie was about, I just knew it was a famous classic. I enjoyed it and I thought the ending was weird as if it had gone on too long but I haven’t watched it again.
I actually enjoy Frenzy. It would have been cool to see what Hitchcock would have done had he lived longer.

OP is a thief and is stealing something he doesn't know if he wants. Enjoy your crappy, but free, copy.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | March 17, 2022 3:15 AM |
Vertigo isn’t my favorite Hitchcock film by a long shot - but I think it should definitely be viewed on the big screen - that type of overwhelming presentation helps mitigate some of the things I dislike about it.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | March 17, 2022 3:39 AM |
It's San Francisco with plenty of free parking.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | March 17, 2022 4:05 AM |
I honestly don't get the thrill of this movie. It's not like Vertigo is a character in the movie. It could have been done equally well without it.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | March 17, 2022 9:58 AM |
R49 How? It’s the reason he lost his partner during the opening chase and it’s why he couldn’t get to the bell tower. It’s the device that propels the entire story. Like being confined to a wheelchair in Rear Window. Without vertigo, it would be the Gary/Ciji/Cathy Geary storyline on Knots Landing.

Kim Novak's hair looks faker than fake in that movie. Da wig department, you done messedup.

I am now watching North by Northwest and I like it a lot more. But the woman on the train is such a slut!
