Where the hell do you live? I've met very good-looking doctors, lawyers, artists, real estate agents (not failed actors), ad execs, veterinarians... NYC has its share of those who are famous (or trying to be) and beautiful, but there are so many others who are just beautiful.

I've known extremely good looking people irl. One of my younger sisters was head-turningly gorgeous as a child and young woman. I remember people stopping my parents in the street (this was the 80s and 90s so perhaps more acceptable back then) to comment on her looks and say she should get into modeling etc. I spent my own childhood as the plain sister, burning with jealousy.

I don't even think it's rare to meet good looking people. They're not as common as average looking ppl (obviously) but they're pretty much everywhere - especially when young.

Hard as it is to believe, many, many physically beautiful people are not at all interested in being famous.

This is juvenile. Most famous people are famous because they are driven to it. Usually narcissists with low self-esteem or troubled backgrounds and vain attention seekers (like the popular kid in high school). These people will sleep with whoever, will backstab whoever and do whatever it takes to get to Hollywood (same deal with politics and business) and get the fame and glory they desire. Not every famous person but majority of Hollywood, politics and the corporate world is filled with power hungry narcissists. People with integrity and ethics tend to stay clear or work behind the scenes.

Normal, well-adjusted beautiful people may do some modeling here or there, but remember many are still individuals with different hobbies or interests. If they have good parents who instill values, good personality traits and work effort, those beauties will go pursue an education and get a real career. Actually since society gives preference to attractive people, these people usually do have a lot of success and more chances to get things right. So a beautiful person has a good shot at getting a science, law, medical or business degree and being a high earner.

There's also examples of people just getting hugely famous for being beautiful just getting discovered at random like Ava Gardner, Cameron Diaz, etc. But that's not common and they both still got very lucky with the films they were cast in which cemented them to A-List. More beautiful people have failed at long-lasting fame than succeeded just by not having the drive and charisma or marketability (also many will refuse to sleep with directors and producers).

I don't get out much but I've personally seen maybe 5 or 6 people with naturally beautiful faces. 🤔 This thread makes me think back and when I'd see them, I couldn't help but want to keep looking at them. I briefly knew a young woman who could have been Naomi Campbell’s twin. I asked her what it was like to be so beautiful and she said it was pretty great. Living in NYC, I saw men all the time that were just stunningly attractive - like you wanted to stare at them. Anyone remember Gabriel from Barracuda who went on to Eastern Bloc with Ben Masani? There's many goodlooking people who have low self-esteem from a variety of different factors like an abusive home, mental illness and bullying. So many late bloomers. My best friend in elementary school was perfect and boys drooled over her. She never saw herself as gorgeous, but she was a 10. I live in Rome and I am often struck by how beautiful some of the young people are, eg the university students. Even less attractive ones all seem to have at least one beautiful feature, such as perfect skin, thick shiny hair, lovely teeth, etc. Sadly, they all seem to hit a wall hard.

I’ve known quite a few people who were good looking enough to be actors or models but never considered going for it, but then my social circles tend to be middle class, college educated people with substantial talents in areas other than being looked at.

I think you need to have an intense drive to do acting, modeling and music. Being goodlooking doesn't mean you want to be famous and give up your privacy, sense of humanity and dignity. That's why many people willingly quit even if they have the looks.
