Was Joan Collins Ever In Anything Fine AND Non-Campy?

I appreciate her performances, usually, especially from before they became rote in the "Joan Collins as a British Mae West but still connected to the business and something of the real world and nobody's fool.

But did she ever do anything "classy" that aimed higher than a bosom, smile, big eyes, and as much wit and polish as the writers gave her to perform?

Even "Land of the Pharaohs," great as it is, still shows its winks amid the atmosphere, dark scenes and ghastly comeuppance. I mean, those shrieks in the fatal darkness.

No, hence her charm.

THE GIRL IN THE RED VELVET SWING (55) and THE BRAVADOS (59) are two of her better films at Fox.

Sh could have retired in 1960, but, no, she had to go on and do shit like THE BITCH as she aged.

Joan didn't like her much either.

Well R3, to be honest, was there anyone that Bette Davis didn't hate? She was known to be a thoroughly insufferable bitch who saw faults in everything and everyone, and made sure to belittle anyone she could afford to humiliate.

As for Joan, R4, she is also one of those people who complains about EVERYONE... Except the men who found her desirable and the women who admire her, of course. Reading her various memoirs is an endless barrage of petty complaints about everyone who ever crossed her path, interrupted by bouts of incessant name dropping and exhausting narcissism.

Still, Joan is fun and deliriously over the top, with a touch of class that keeps her from being just another tacky former starlet who is way past her prime. You can say whatever you want about her, but she made the Alexis Carrington character iconic and wore those impossible 1980s fashion styles like nobody else could.

Not everyone needs to be Meryl Streep in order to deserve fame. Extremely charismatic (former) beauties who are only good at playing campy bitches and caricaturesque divas also have their place in show business.
