She of course was reduced to tears . Ha ha ha
People used to applaud Chris Evert's double faults in the 70's. She never let it get to her.
Naomi is a perpetual victim....she is making $$$$ off her so called misery. She does not support the sport that made her rich enough to never have to play again. So please Naomi, find something else to do. Become a therapist, open a psychiatric hospital, donate to Ukrainian relief. Don't play a sport in a public domain. Take up pickle ball at your local country club. Wanting to take the mike to scold that idiot who yelled at you proves she LOVES this. Mother Teresa's dead, go to India and help the sick and the poor there.

while you can't compare what others are going thru, until you're in their shoes... and this should not be a funny matter for anyone's mental health...
but i can only imagine the heckling players like althea gibson, the williams sisters, martina and bjk and chrissie experienced... or hingis at the french in 99....hingis lost it but she DID have that entire stadium of those boorish french people against her...
I don't understand what talking to the crowd during or after the match was going to prove? People are assholes, always have been, always will be. One does have to wonder what mental issues that woman had for yelling that out in a packed stadium?!
on a sidenote, i wonder what percentage of the crowd are TRUE 24/7 every day of the year, year after year tennis fans? Who are amateur tennis historians and knowledgeable about the game? I suspect a large number like the U.S. Open are there for the fun, to be seen, and nothing better to do but with money to spend....
on the website of this tournament, the prices for tickets (not counting hotel/food/parking lot fee, etc) are typically OUTRAGEOUS, making tennis a "niche" sport more and more catering to the wealthy and sponsors..

Genuinely, if she’s that delicate, she should be kinder to herself and get out of the public eye where stuff like this always, always happens.

Was Osaka always like this?....

Well, what's wrong with that? Or do you think there should be some sort of test on the sport spectators have to take before they're allowed in the stands?
Datalounge snobbishness is really baffling to me sometimes.

Heckling fans should be removed. Show some class.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | March 13, 2022 7:25 PM |
Monica Seles had it far worse.
Hard to believe it'll soon be 30 years since she was attacked.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | March 13, 2022 7:39 PM |
Martina Navratilova went through a tough time too, but she kept winning and finally won people over.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | March 13, 2022 7:52 PM |
How DARE you minimize the SUFFERING of a brave woman of color, R7 and R8! Monica Seles and Martina are PRIVILEGED white women who EVERY SINGLE MINUTE benefit from white privilege. They will never know just how much COURAGE Queen Naomi needs to have to just put one foot in front of the other every single day! Monica and Martina need to check their privilege.

She's one of those started out great kid tennis players (see Jennifer Capriati, Tracy Austin, Andrea Jaeger, etc.) who burn out quick. Her career's over and she's fucked because she managed to hustle all these big contracts - even a TV series about her, everything. Made a fortune quick but can't keep it up because she simply isn't that good. She'll have to embark now on a career as a professional "activist".

The vocal uptick is grating. “I want to say thank you?” “If you haven’t watched it, you should watch it?” Sheesh, bitch, get a sports psychologist and a media trainer. Lord knows you have the cash for it.

Fuck Her. What's this bitch crying about. I had it worse. A lot worse

If she can't handle the flak, she needs to find another occupation.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | March 13, 2022 9:44 PM |
She's trying to hold onto her celebrity despite the fact she's not going to make it as a top tennis player. So she pulls this Poor Little Black Girl shit like Meghan Markle does. They're professional victims. It appears to be a career now.

R5...$2 here.... you obviously didn't get the message I was posting about....
the true tennis fan can't afford the great seats because the powers that be don't give a shit about them, as long as wealthy people show up and wealthy sponsors that's all they care about... you want to talk about snobbishness? it's those who get free tickets or can afford to pay thousands of dollars a week, who (like the u.s. open and wimbledon) only show up to be seen! AND who many times don't have the integrity to realize how lucky they are and even SHOW UP with these great seats or spend time drinking, talking and on their cell phones, while the true tennis fan is sitting in the nose bleed section....
if fair was fair it wouldn't be like this!...
this is why tennis is such a "niche" sport and caters to the small percentage not the masses and has dwindled in popularity, (especially when fed, novak, nadal and serena are gone), and the powers that be including former players, former players as commentators, who 9 out of 10 came from wealth or well to do families themselves before their careers and were able to have their careers are either out of touch or don't care either!...
laver cup exhibition.. 10 thousand for a weekend for great seats! really? REALLY?
Would love it if the Tennis Channel had a call in show and ask these commentators and former players these questions and thoughts and see their expression on their faces!..

I heard she’s autistic
by Anonymous | reply 18 | March 14, 2022 1:47 AM |
r17, why can't the "true tennis fan" watch it on TV like the rest of us plebs?
by Anonymous | reply 19 | March 14, 2022 1:50 AM |
The true tennis fan doesn't own a TV nor a car.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | March 14, 2022 1:52 AM |
Tennis and golf are atypical among sports in the expectation that fans will remain silent during play, so it’s a fair complaint by Osaka, but it does make clear she doesn’t have the mental stamina to be a long-running player, even though she has the physical talent. You need both. She has to think of a way to summon that.

The Seles stabbing was, imo, one of the biggest tragedies in sports. She was so fierce and fearless and very well could have been the GOAT…
by Anonymous | reply 22 | March 14, 2022 1:56 AM |
It doesn’t make sense to compare the Seles stabbing, because it destroyed Monica’s career. It’s not like she popped right up and went on winning, it scarred her mentally.

R13, that's what you get for exposing everyong to your annoying grunting!
by Anonymous | reply 24 | March 14, 2022 1:59 AM |
r22 I 100% agree. The accuracy of her shots was surreal. Her victory over Graf in the RG92 final remains one of my favorite matches of all time.

martina herself said that if capriati had won that match she, capriati would have beaten martina in the finals and won the open...

by Anonymous | reply 31 | March 14, 2022 5:00 AM |
Osaka is not playing nearly enough to keep at a top level, and this is her best surface. Roland Garros, then Wimbledon are the next slams, and it's going to be *glorious* watching her lose in the early rounds. That is, if she even shows up.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | March 14, 2022 5:16 AM |
In her on court interview after her win, Halep was asked what made her happiest about her performance. Halep said, “being calm on court and not talking much.”

by Anonymous | reply 34 | March 14, 2022 6:36 AM |
Quit, bitch. Simple as that. Take your unearned millions from swatting a ball around and go. Still waiting for other tennis pros other than Venus and Penis to rush to her defense.
