What is Dario Argento's best movie?

I saw "Suspiria" when I was around 13 years old and it's always stayed with me. "Inferno" gets a lot of love, but I frankly have never cared for it. I recently rewatched "Phenomena" and think that film might be one of his most underrated. It's quite wacky, with Jennifer Connelly telepathically communicating with insects, Donald Pleasance playing an entomologist, plus you have the chimpanzee and that crazy heavy metal soundtrack. It has some stunning visuals though and atmosphere (lots of gorgeous Swiss locations), plus a number of creepy murder sequences. The ending is batshit (in the best way possible).

Who? Who’s movie was his best? Who say again, who?

I agree with you on Phenomena. The first time I saw it I was lukewarm to positive on it, but the second time I saw it, on a lovely restored version, I REALLY liked it. Thought it looked so beautiful and the story is absolutely batshit in an enjoyable way.

I love Inferno. I think it's one of his most beautiful movies, and in some ways I love it more than Suspiria. But love Suspiria too.

His best is still probably Suspiria or Deep Red, but for me, I have enjoyed nearly everything I've seen from his, and think he is great from The Bird with the Crystal Plumage up to and including Opera, and I also really enjoyed The Stendhal Syndrome, which surprised me at the time. His artistic peak though, I think would have to be from Deep Red to Phenomena. Those five movies are everything I love about Argento.
