I stopped watching Maher several years ago when it became apparent he’d become bitter and angry that he was called out over something he’d said. He was always fine calling out others, but when he said something offensive, he wouldn’t accept responsibility or even acknowledge that the criticism was at least partially valid, or as he would say, had a kernel of truth.

No one is perfect, no one is right all the time, and the mark of an adult is admitting that you’re human and your opinions evolve over time. Maher can’t see that his opinions have changed and he’s far further to the political right than even a few years ago. He’s become intellectually lazy and rigid, two traits he shares with his many, many right wing guests. That’s part of being on the political right; not having to think about your positions is much easier.

BTW, moron @R95, when 9/11 happened, it wasn't only innocent Muslims who were verbally and violently attacked. Sikhs and Hindus were attacked - even murdered. Anyone who looked vaguely "Muslim" was attacked. Same with Asians and Covid/Vietnam/Korea/WW2. Same with Hispanics. There have always, always, always been scapegoats - and they were not "white people."

Seems like every passing comment Maher makes now is isolated into a new thread to provoke outrage. Of course he mocked people that think they have to pour out their Russian vodka, etc. That isn't that unusual or stunning.

The issue with Maher and his defenders who think they're the "sane moderates" is that they have to exaggerate efforts on the left to make it seem as if it's greater than it is to justify his bloviating about it. He takes some isolated example and pretends it's going on everywhere and it's a part of the Progressive platform...as he ignores the actual legislative efforts by the right, which is an actual threat.

Well put R102; there are always going to be extreme elements on both sides - no argument there. I personally wouldn't vote for Ilhan Omar, but I don't live her in district, but I respect their right to pick their representative just like Boebert's district picked her. But Maher picks a couple of extreme, mostly isolated examples while rambling on about "being woke" when what he's really talking about is how he's been called out over the years for the offensive shit he's done & said.

One extreme example was talking about diversity training.

Someone came on his show and complained that whatever training he took blamed him, as a white man, so he got up and walked out.

Bill Maher constantly brings up this example whenever anyone brings up diversity training. "Training that blames the white people in attendance directly that they are the cause of the problem??!!"

I've been through so many diversity trainings that I've lost count. NOT ONE, blamed white people. I think the guest just made it up because it was part of the GOP's attempt to block anything to do with diversity--and Trump soon after banned diversity trainings in government.

I consider myself politically correct but not woke. I define political correctness as not saying something overtly offensive to somebody for something they cannot help (race, ethnicity, gender, disability). Wokeness for me involves in-depth searching to find a possible connection between something somebody said to try desperately to link it to something racist, etc. frequently in the most obscure fashion possible.
