Middle eastern volunteers coming to help Putin
While Joy Reid and other offended black celebrities, DLers too, are crying for the unfair treatment of Middle eastern war victims (though frankly they were the first one not to give a flying fuck about them in their hour of need), Middle eastern guys are showing that they are strong men and warriors able to fight for their ally Putin cause and not in need of Joy crocodile tears.
16000 volunteers are coming to fight for Russia in Ukraine.

Does OP realize that this news looks really bad for Russia's military capacities? They sent 190,000 soldiers in Ukraine; two weeks later they have to recruit 16,000 from Syria. Wonder why they can't spare their own.

Why is it so hard to understand: Putin is paying mercenaries to come fight for him because his regular Russian troops are not up to it.
That is why "volunteers" is in quotes--they are not volunteering, they are mercenaries he has hired because they are experienced in street fighting. The men are damaged people who do not care if they live or die and whatever Putin is offering them is a good sized chunk of change at home
Think of Putin as a Bond villain and it starts to make sense.

Putin has good relationships with Middle Eastern and African countries, India. He is certainly using them already in the propaganda war. And many black Americans don't need much enticing when it comes to bitching about white privilege, even when they are rich and famous and the "privileged" is being a refugee from a war zone.

Since they were featured in The news as having been trigger happy in Iraq.Working for you guessed it, The Americans. I don't think violence is a solution for Americans or Russians. Russian soldiers morale is very low, because most of them had no fucking idea they are going to war, they are under-fed and losses are HUGE. Also Ukraine and Russia ARE close nations, at least used to be. It's a desperate measure from Putin and Shoigu, I don't think it's going to be popular in Russia.

Due to overpopulation and absence of job opportunities, getting paid for pursuing jihad - or, in this instance, taking up arms as a mercenary - is a job like any other. Muslims from all over North Africa and the Near/Middle East receive stipends to take up arms in regional wars/skirmishes. It's mostly an easy gig because they're going up against an unarmed, civilian population.
Wonder what Russia is paying them.

The people like OP who are trying to make it seem as if Joy Reid is ranting about this every night are full of shit. I've been watching her show ever since the war started and I think she mentioned the racial aspects of this once and only once. She even cautioned, when it was first reported about the African students being denied passage, to not immediately believe it for fear it could've been disinformation by the Russians in order to cast a negative light on the Ukrainians. So again, those trying to tie her to this are full of shit and only exposing their own racist bullshit in the process.

R41 A variety of places. In the case of DAESH, Saudi Arabia was the main financier. Iran finances Hezbullah, Hamas and Yemen's Houthis. The Taliban's financing does of course come from drug sales. North African groups warring with the local powers in Algeria and Tunisia are funded in part by wealthy expats in Euope and the US. You can usually figure out who's bankrolling the various groups/mercenaries challenging the power by working your way backward. These groups then turn around and issue a call to jihad, offering a stipend, which men with lots of mouths to feed and few prospects take up. Again knowing that the risks are few due to going up against an unarmed civilian population. Once stronger powers enter into the conflict, and the risk of getting shot dead increases, the "volunteers" pack up and head home, where their communal status is elevated because they participated in jihad.

Addendum R43 Another money spinner on the ground is extortion, demanding money from the local business owners in the form of "zakat" ( charity). Of course, that money is used to pay volunteer stipends and line the pockets of the higher ups.

Assad owes Putin (and by extension Russia), and the latter are calling in their chips.
Russia and Iran are largely responsible for Assad still being in power, they've furnished all sorts of military and other aid against Islamic State forces that have been battling to topple Assad and his regime for years now. Putin has received very little benefit in return for his efforts, until now.....
If comparatively generous financial inducement does not produce enough "volunteers", Assad will simply draft members of his military to go. He doesn't have much of a choice as again Syria needs Russia at this stage more than vice versa.
For the record there are already Muslims in Ukraine fighting against Russia. Remember Chechnya?

I’ve been following this from Day 1. Article after article.
I don’t know why I’m having a delayed reaction, but it is only now that I’m fathoming how lucky I am to be in my warm bed, no bullets or shellfire or helicopters overhead. No fear for family or friends.
I get caught up in the injustice of it all, the politics, the futility and it bogs me down.
But my life actually hasn’t changed and it’s all luck that I was born here and not there.
I feel bad for both sides.
Putin is a monster killing others for his own warped priorities.
Trump had me worried like that.
I’m bothered by what’s going on in Ukraine and elsewhere, but that’s a luxury and I can’t take that for granted.

[QUOTE] Why are we pretending that this isn't WW3?
It isn't. In the first month of WW3, Poland was defeated and annexed, France was defeated and occupied and then Hitler invaded Begium. Very soon afterwards Hitler began bombing London and Hull. See how many countries I mentioned there?
by Anonymous | reply 54 | March 12, 2022 1:46 PM

R54, I think your chronology is a bit off. Poland was defeated in the first month (September 1939), but Germany didn't invade Belgium or defeat France (in that order) until the first half of 1940, and the bombing of England didn't start until Fall 1940, a year after the invasion of Poland.
But point taken; this isn't yet WWIII.

"Why are we pretending that this isn't WW3?"
Germany defeated and occupied Poland (attacked in September 1939), Denmark (April 1940), Norway (April 1940), Belgium (May 1940), the Netherlands (May 1940), Luxembourg (May 1940), France (May 1940), Yugoslavia (April 1941), and Greece (April 1941).
Massive bombing of the UK from September 1939 onwards.
