Six spring breaking West Point football players overdose on fentanyl-laced cocaine

Six students on spring break in Fort Lauderdale who overdosed on cocaine laced with fentanyl and were hospitalized on Thursday have been identified as West Point football players.

Two of the cadets had not ingested the drugs but were overcome by the effects of fentanyl when they attempted to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on their sickened friends.

'The U.S. Military Academy is aware of the situation involving West Point cadets, which occurred Thursday night in Wilton Manors, FL,' a West Point spokesperson said in an email. 'The incident is currently under investigation and no other details are available at this time.'

News helicopter video shows paramedics converging on the front yard of a short-term vacation rental home on NW 29th Court in Wilton Manors, where multiple people were found in cardiac arrest at 5pm.

Footage from the scene shows first responders administering first aid and placing several individuals onto stretchers.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Gollan told Local10 that two of the people who overdosed were sickened because they tried to perform CPR on the initial four overdose victims. He said the opioid-overdose-reversing drug naloxone, which is sold under the brand name Narcan, was administered to revive the victims.

Neighbors in Wilton Manors told the Sun-Sentinel that the West Point cadets had been staying at the rental property for several days, and that on Wednesday night police were called for an unspecified reason.

Two local residents said they have repeatedly complained to the managers of the vacation property about excessive noise and rowdy parties.

Meanwhile, Florida and Fort Lauderdale are bracing for 'triple' the amount of visitors compared to last year as tens of thousands of students prepare to celebrate the first Spring Break in the US free of COVID rules.

Sad. I bet they are hot as fuck and also in deep shit at West Point. Lucky they didn't die.

by Anonymousreply 1March 11, 2022 8:19 PM

Must see their pics asap.

by Anonymousreply 2March 11, 2022 8:22 PM

Spring break and killer cocaine. What could go wrong?

by Anonymousreply 3March 11, 2022 8:23 PM

Assuming they didn't know anything about the area and picked the rental because it's all they could find/afford, I wonder if they ever figured out what kind of place Wilton Manors is.

by Anonymousreply 4March 11, 2022 8:29 PM

[quote] I wonder if they ever figured out what kind of place Wilton Manors is.

You got me curious so I looked it up.

The city is home to a sizable LGBT population and has become a destination for LGBT tourists, who frequent its many nightclubs and gay-owned businesses along the main street, Wilton Drive;[8] the 2010 U.S. Census reported that it is second only to Provincetown, Massachusetts in the proportion (15%) of gay couples relative to the total population (couples as reported to the U.S. Census). so where's the problem? Not seeing an issue? six future GOP members nearly die? seems disappointing.

by Anonymousreply 6March 11, 2022 8:39 PM

Almost died and probably going to be expelled. Dumbasses.

by Anonymousreply 7March 11, 2022 8:45 PM

West Pointers are not stupid and there is no guarantee they are right wing nut jobs, either.

by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2022 8:45 PM

Six football players from West Point walking around Wilton Manors while high on cocaine would have been an interesting sight.

by Anonymousreply 9March 11, 2022 8:45 PM

Did the innocently stumble upon the area not knowing it's a gayborhood or did they intentionally go there because it's a gay area?

by Anonymousreply 10March 11, 2022 8:48 PM

Only their noses know.

R9, I have a friend whose son was at Annapolis during the 2016 elections, and that midshipman said that most of his friends at the Naval Academy were pro-Trump and very anti-Hillary.

by Anonymousreply 13March 11, 2022 8:53 PM

Annapolis is not West Point.

by Anonymousreply 14March 11, 2022 8:55 PM

Were DL First Responders called in? We only revive the hot ones.

R14, West Point is the easiest of the service universities to matriculate at. Air Force is second. Annapolis is the hardest.

In terms of political leanings, the Air Force Academy is the most right-wing, next West Point, then Annapolis.

by Anonymousreply 17March 11, 2022 9:02 PM

Were only male cadets involved?

by Anonymousreply 18March 11, 2022 9:05 PM

If they were football players I would think so.

by Anonymousreply 19March 11, 2022 9:08 PM

da few da proud

by Anonymousreply 20March 11, 2022 9:10 PM

What were they doing in Wilton Manors? Don’t ask, Don’t tell!

by Anonymousreply 21March 11, 2022 9:10 PM

No one winds up in Wilton Manors by mistake.

by Anonymousreply 22March 11, 2022 9:25 PM

I'm glad I'm too old for drugs. You don't know what the fuck you're getting these days.

by Anonymousreply 23March 11, 2022 9:26 PM

yeah, I did claim that most west pointers are smart, but yes indeed its dumb to buy coke of any kind nowadays except form an extremely trusted and known dealer, and then you would probably let a frenemy snort first.

Sound like a good premise for a movie, six hot cadets stumble upon the gayborhood during Spring Break! Let's cast it

by Anonymousreply 27March 11, 2022 10:41 PM

I started buying my weed at the dispensary last year because they’re putting fentanyl in everything these days!

by Anonymousreply 28March 11, 2022 10:43 PM

They did not “stumble upon” it.

by Anonymousreply 29March 11, 2022 10:43 PM

Im surprised one of you old farts doesn't own the rental. Spill tea bitch!

by Anonymousreply 32March 11, 2022 11:14 PM

I can see it now: A sitcom about an eldergay that lives in his former AirBnB property and the hijinks he gets into with the ghosts of the six hot, masc cadets that OD'd there and destroyed his side hustle.

by Anonymousreply 33March 12, 2022 2:03 AM

by Anonymousreply 36March 12, 2022 2:37 AM

The number of cadets and football players varies by story. At least one person was not a cadet. The number varies between 2 and 5 and in some reports not all are football players.

by Anonymousreply 37March 12, 2022 2:48 AM

Was Andrew Gillium there?

by Anonymousreply 38March 12, 2022 2:50 AM

Same here. Fentanyl is ruining everybody’s fun.

by Anonymousreply 40March 12, 2022 3:44 AM

Im so glad I did my recreational drugs phase back in the 70s-80s. I still smoke weed, but I too get it from a dispensary. I dont even trust buying weed anymore. Sad for these kids, drugs should be fun !

by Anonymousreply 41March 12, 2022 5:40 AM

Im sure the police were called because of loud gay orgies

by Anonymousreply 42March 12, 2022 9:06 AM

Back in the day, and we are talking way back, Annapolis was the "aristocratic" choice. Generations of navy men, etc. It would have been more country club Republican in its views.

I'm an eldergay.

by Anonymousreply 43March 12, 2022 9:13 AM

Well one thing's for sure, no one in Florida cares about what school they go to as long as they are HOT

by Anonymousreply 44March 12, 2022 9:18 AM

You canNOT od while giving m2m resuscitation.

by Anonymousreply 45March 12, 2022 9:46 AM

Well I think you could OD on residual fentanyl and couldn't it be aerosolized in the breath? I dunno. Not a chemist.

by Anonymousreply 46March 12, 2022 9:48 AM

R46: Sounds specious to me. If it were true then we would have heard it being an issue for EMTs who do this all the time.

by Anonymousreply 47March 12, 2022 1:12 PM

I dont think MTM is even done anymore. Unless they've added it back since I last had CPR training.

by Anonymousreply 48March 12, 2022 1:19 PM

I haven't taken basic lifesaving in awhile, the Red Cross would change it every few years. The last time I took it, they had made everything more complicated. The only thing I remembered was that I should be the one to say "I'll call 911".

by Anonymousreply 56March 12, 2022 3:22 PM

R51, another way to look at it is that these soldiers are not at war, and we’re just trying to party — which is exactly what young people should be doing. I understand why you posted it, I just think a more positive way to see it is that our youth can be carefree because we aren’t at war, and that’s a good thing. I am (like you) devastated at what is happening in Ukraine. Their youth are suffering and traumatized. All we can do is keep supporting them. My son has a connection to “Wali” the Canadian sniper who is on the frontlines. We are doing all we can to support the cause of the incredible, courageous Ukrainian people.

by Anonymousreply 57March 12, 2022 3:31 PM

Who ordered the Code Red?

by Anonymousreply 58March 12, 2022 3:31 PM

Guys and gals…

Aren’t we all really grateful we went through our self-destructive, partying stages , way back in the day, when coke was actually still good and sometimes almost pure?

I’ve had some AMAZING coke in my early 20s, and I’m sure most of us here over 45 have as well.

A truly horrible drug to get addicted to, but I don’t know anyone but one person who allegedly died of cocaine.

It’s fucking WILD AF out there nowadays. I’m so grateful I’m not out there doing shit like this as a youngin’ now.

It’s interesting that the others who attempted to perform CPR also ODed, which makes sense if the CPR patients snorted it.

Wow.

People are still dropping like flies all over the place over fentanyl.

And you know what?

I notice the news rarely writes about it anymore unless it’s something like this.

by Anonymousreply 59March 12, 2022 3:36 PM

Why doesn't Don Jr ever get sold the fentanyl coke?

by Anonymousreply 60March 12, 2022 3:41 PM

Why are people blaming them instead of the psychopath that sold them fentanyl-laced cocaine?

Gurl they probably wanted Miami, but saw those prices and settled for anywhere in greater Fort Lauderdale. Straight boys from out of state don't know a damn thing about Wilton Manors.

I think these guys wanted anonymity and a different kind of Spring Break.

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a mass fentanyl overdose incident involving five cadets from West Point, a prestigious military academy in New York.

Axel Giovany Casseus was arrested on cocaine trafficking charges Friday, a day after the cadets and two other people reportedly overdosed on fentanyl-laced cocaine while spending spring break in Florida, according to an arrest report from the Broward County Sheriff’s Office obtained by NBC News on Saturday.

Casseus supposedly supplied the narcotics that caused the mass overdose on Thursday afternoon while the spring breakers were staying on a rental home in the city of Wilton Manors, according to the arrest report.

Four of the West Point cadets, all men, were found in cardiac arrest in the rental home's front yard. Two were revived using Narcan, an emergency overdose treatment, and rushed to a local hospital.

Can someone tell this over-the-hill former party person why dealers lace coke with fentanyl? Is it supposed to get buyers addicted to an opioid high, or are people now looking for an opioid high? In my day it was supposedly laced with baking soda or drano.

by Anonymousreply 74March 13, 2022 5:37 AM

It isn't necessarily the "dealer" who does it. Most likely it's at a point in the drug market chain where no one is thinking about the end user.

by Anonymousreply 75March 13, 2022 1:47 PM

This is from yesterday (March 12):

[quote]An Army football player and West Point cadets were among the victims of a fentanyl overdose at a Wilton Manors vacation rental home that left six spring breakers hospitalized including two in critical condition, officials said Friday.

[quote]According to a statement from West Point, four cadets were taken to the hospital, including the football player. Of the six involved in the incident, one person was not taken to hospital and one was not a cadet.

[quote]The two cadets in critical condition remained intubated in intensive care units after spending the night at local hospitals, Fort Lauderdale Fire Department Battalion Chief Steve Gollan said Friday. At least one patient was treated and released, Gollan said.

[quote]A West Point official told The Associated Press that one of the cadets who was hospitalized is an Army football player. The official said another football player at the house was not hospitalized. The official had no further information and could not give the sickened player's condition.

My stepsons are in their 20s, and I know they dabble with drugs—not heavy shit, I don’t think? But still, the Fentanyl now scares me. They have lost friends in the last couple of years, from “good” families, good schools, etc., because they bought some shit laced with Fentanyl. One was found in his car in the Trader Joe’s parking lot! Also, my sweet nephew is in rehab now because he almost OD’d. Last year, my friend’s son was “partying” with friends and had a bad reaction and died. It’s just heartbreaking that these kids who have everything to live for are being so stupid.
