Noom

Has anyone done this?

I'm a fat whore who needs to be less of a fat whore and parts of this sound intriguing. Trying to see if it's useful and/or different than diet nonsense, or just more of the same.

It has some good information. It’s basically weight watchers without the points and extra psychology. Did not work for me.

by Anonymousreply 1March 11, 2022 2:13 PM

I tried it for a couple weeks. There were a lot of psycho-babble type articles and activities you were supposed to do everyday, and very little to do with actual dieting. Maybe it would have gotten more focused after that, but I lost interest.

by Anonymousreply 2March 11, 2022 2:21 PM

I've used it. Lost 25 lbs so far, using both the articles and calorie counter.

It worked for me. I ignored all the touchy-feely hippie-dippy shit, and took what was useful to me. I got it highly discounted 80%. Most useful was the logging of food and exercise. I lost 30 lbs total. You can do the same type of logging of food and exercise with MyFitnessPal (a free app from underarmour). Good luck OP. Of course for any program to work, you have to really want to lose the weight.

I tried Noom but probably wasn't in the right mindset to do it.. I'm doing GOLO and so far it's working. I'm eating real food and it's not very restrictive. The biggest obstacle for me is the portion sizes.

After being on WW and eating small portions, it's hard to wrap my head around eating 6 oz of protein for lunch and dinner. Having said that, the plan is pretty simple; protein, carb, vegetables, and healthy fats. I don't make overly ambitious meals so chicken, rice and vegetables is fine with me. It's stopped me from eating between meals and, what I call, mindless eating.

Noom required a BIG degree of extra effort from me in addition to eating well. I didn't stick with it, although I still have the meal plan they sent me. Far easier to eat fewer calories and exercise more, and not add any kind of psychology to it.

It was hard as hell to get the membership cancelled, be warned.

by Anonymousreply 6March 11, 2022 2:57 PM

R6, same here with the membership. I set a reminder for myself two weeks before to cancel the free subscription. Imagine my surprise when I saw the charge on my credit card. I resent my initial request to cancel my subscription and they said I had to do it on the app. They cancelled my membership but didn't refund my money. If I remember correctly, there was a lawsuit or investigation into their cancellation/refund practices.

It didn't help me because I know why I eat. I eat when I'm happy, bored, breathing, my favorite shows are on, or the day ends in Y. I'm also not active enough and eat/nibble even when I'm not hungry. I crave carbs and sweets rather than healthy foods.

Using Noom now…fifteen pounds lost since November. Taking it much slower than other eating plans.

by Anonymousreply 8March 11, 2022 3:08 PM

I used it mainly to track my food and exercise. The daily 'psychology about eating' articles was information I already knew. For someone that is truly a fat-whore and knows little about nutrition, that portion of the app could be helpful.

I did end up losing the 12lbs I needed to lose last year and I have kept it off. Hope this helps!

It will work well as long as you are faithful it. Lost 40 pounds and haven't put them back on.

by Anonymousreply 10March 11, 2022 5:33 PM

R7, call your credit card issuing bank and dispute the charge. They will take care of it. And Noom will have another black mark against them for fraud. Don't bother with them if your card was charged during a free trial period. That's why when I wish to engage in a free trial and they ask for my cc number I contact them and say well since I won't be charged can you just give me the CEO's cc #, because you're not going to charge me, right?

Be careful with Amazon Prime's free trial. You sign up for it, you buy something. When the trial period is over they automatically charge your card. I have removed all payment info from my Amazon account. Also, if you use somebody's Prime account with your cc #, your cc will be charged if they default on paying their Prime charge.

Thanks for the advice, R11 but it happened quite a few years ago. Back when NOOM first came out. It wasn't until after my experience that I read about their "scam" billing practices. I chalked it up to lessons learned.
