I worked in fashion the year or two that Kristen took off, as she had been around awhile. I remember the intimate New York shows - Donna Karan - who showed in her own office suite, Calvin Klein, Anna Sui. Many of us couldn't take our eyes off Kristen, she was magnetic. So it wasn't that she really was just ugly, or even ugly at all, rather she was unusual, and she was effortlessly glamorous and fun and a really skilled model. They play an energy and attention game, the top models, or at least back then. Where was NO SUCH THING as DEAD EYES, that's for sure. The good ones elicited attention yet beamed back energy. You did not feel you were being ripped off paying attention (as with today's models) to the glamazons, you felt rewarded and often thrilled. They created and multiplied energy.
